This is a restaurant located about a 5-minute walk from Obihiro Station, where you can eat a famous pork bowl dish. I went there around 9 pm and there were quite a few people. They offer four different sizes, and I tried the smallest one. The pork bowl, eaten with a rich sauce, was excellent. Highly recommended!

"Pork bowl Shiro" 995 yen "Pork bowl Saburo" 1,095 yen "Pork bowl Jiro" 1,195 yen. It has only been a little over two years since it moved here, so it doesn't stand out much, but it is located very close to a certain famous restaurant. They also sell it as a station bento at Obihiro Station. I parked my car at a nearby paid parking lot and headed to the store. It was just before noon, and there were no customers before me. The staff explained to me that the meat gets thicker from Jiro. All 100 yen difference. I thought pork bowls were supposed to be up to 1,000 yen, but I went with the safe choice of Saburo, while my companion ordered a different type, so I can introduce that. It arrived within 10 minutes. The way the meat is placed on the rice, where you can't see the rice, looks good. It makes a big difference. The meat is lean Hokkaido loin meat. Recently, many places have been using belly meat. When I think of traditional pork bowls, I remember using thin loin meat at home. The sauce is slightly bitter, with a dark color. I don't mind it. The meat is thin. I sprinkle GABAN's sansho pepper on top. The green peas are also cute on a skewer. The sauce soaks into the rice and it was delicious until the end. Thank you for the meal.

This is a pork bowl restaurant located in the drinking district north of the station. The interior feels a bit haphazard, with a wide central aisle, tables pushed against the walls to create makeshift counter seats, and a lack of overall cohesion. The background music, relaxed Western music, doesn't quite fit the atmosphere of a pork bowl restaurant. When you pick up the menu, the waiter explains that Shiro is small, Saburo is regular, Jiro is a regular large portion, and Ichiro is an extra large portion, but it's unclear if it refers to the amount of meat or rice. The Saburo (1095 yen) has thin but tender meat with a slightly bitter sauce, 40% sweetness and 60% bitterness. The rice is delicious but the portion might be too much. A bit more meat or a soft-boiled egg would be perfect. I'm happy that they offer unlimited GABAN sansho pepper. The staff is friendly, but they could improve their professionalism.

The intended "Panchou" closed after 7:00 PM, so we went to "Butahachi" nearby. The portions of meat for each dish - Ichiro, Jiro, Saburo, and Yonro - were different. Unfortunately, the meat was thin. Also, there was not enough sauce to soak into the rice. I asked for extra sauce to pour over the remaining white rice. More tourists looking for "Panchou" are starting to come in.

This is Obihiro. The most famous dish here is pork bowl. But after 8pm, most places are closed. The night in Obihiro ends early! However, I found a place called "Buta Hachi" that was still open. They have an interesting menu with four options: Ichiro, Jiro, Saburo, and Shiro. Each option varies in the amount of meat and rice. I chose Saburo, which was still quite filling. The pork was very tender and the sauce had a slightly burnt aroma. It was delicious and the rice was very satisfying. Obihiro truly knows how to make tasty food.

About 4-5 minutes walk from Obihiro Station, I passed by "Buta Hachi" around 12:30, and in front of the famous shop "Panchou", there was a line of about 10 people. I was the first customer, so I sat at a table. It's lunchtime, but it's not crowded. According to the people of Tokachi, "pork bowl" is something you eat at home, and "Sorachi pork bowl sauce" seems to be a staple in every household. When I opened the menu, I saw names like "Ichiro, Jiro, Saburo, Shiro" for the pork bowl options based on the amount and type of meat. I ordered the "Shiro @795" and "Miso soup @175". It was served in about 8 minutes. The green peas were served in this state, which seems like a hassle to prepare. The meat consisted of about 7 slices, with a slight smoky aroma from grilling. The sauce, with a delicate balance of mild bitterness and sweetness, was quite to my liking. There were two types of meat thickness (thick, thin), and this one was the thin one. It may depend on personal preference, but the thick one might go better with this sauce. The Tokachi area is known for its pork bowls, so the quality is consistently high at every shop. I remember there was a pork bowl shop I used to like a long time ago in Otofuke, but I can't recall the name... I'll have to go look for it next time. Thank you for the meal.

November 3, 2021. What I can do now is to support restaurants while being cautious. I came with the feeling of "Let's give it our all" and visited a pork bowl restaurant that I had been putting off because I had eaten there many times before. I went to "Buta Hachi" for the first time. They offer takeout. At night, I went to "Ramen Kodama". It is located in the center of Obihiro, in the place where Torihiko used to be. The exterior is a two-story building with a long and narrow gray wall. Inside, it is spacious and long, with 5 tables for 2 people, 3 tables for 4 people, and 1 table for 6 people. There is no parking lot, but you can get a 100 yen discount by showing a parking ticket.
Starting from November 1, they are serving ramen at night instead of pork bowls. The exact business hours are not confirmed, but at 10:30 am, the website stated that they are open from 10:00 am until November 10. I ordered the "Ichiro" for 1,205 yen (tax included). It arrived in about 18 minutes. The Ichiro has thick slices of meat, the sauce is not as sweet as other pork bowl restaurants, it has a slightly bitter taste and a good charcoal smell, and the crispy parts are delicious. The meat is tender. When I first came to Obihiro over twenty years ago, a senior colleague took me out to eat for the first time at the previous location of Buta Hachi. It really brought back memories from that time. The father, please continue to work hard as always. I will come back to enjoy the nostalgic pork bowl. Thank you for the meal. Buta Hachi offers takeout. Business hours (as stated on the website): 10:00 am - 10:00 pm (April 25 - November 10), 10:30 am - 9:00 pm (November 11 - April 24). Closed on irregular days.

Visited for Sunday lunch. No other customers when I arrived! It was my first time at this location, although I have been to the original shop in Tsuruhashi before. The pork bowl with a unique bitter sauce that becomes addictive, similar to the legendary one in Shinbashi. I ordered the "Rou" brothers pork bowl set, which includes Ichirou, Jirou, Saburou, and Shirou. I also had two bowls of miso soup with mushrooms. It took a little time to cook on charcoal. The miso soup was piping hot, but the meat and rice were...? Lately, I've been enjoying it with a lot of sansho pepper sprinkled on top. Thank you for the meal.

There are menus ranging from Ichiro to Shiro based on the thickness of the meat and the amount of rice. Despite the challenges of the pandemic, the manager kindly accommodates customers. The pork bowl has thick slices of meat with a not too sweet, fragrant sauce that is suitable for older men. It is easy to eat and delicious. The green peas are a nice touch for older men. The combination with sansho pepper is great. It would be even better with mountain wasabi. I enjoyed it very much.

This is a report on a restaurant in Hokkaido, "Buta Hachi" in Obihiro (lol). I stopped by and used a nearby coin parking for parking. It was around 6 pm on a weekday, and there were 2 groups of 4 people as the first customers, so we were able to sit down right away. It felt like the seating capacity was reduced due to the pandemic, but it wasn't crowded, which is good! I asked the staff about the "Jiro ¥995" dish, and they kindly explained that the typical sizes are Jiro, Saburo, and if you're a guy, most people finish Ichi and Jiro easily, so as a first-time visitor, I avoided Ichi and went with Jiro (lol). The restaurant was playing Western music as background music. They also had partitions set up on the tables! The dish arrived about 10 minutes after ordering!! Oh~! The savory aroma of charcoal-grilled meat is irresistible! The sauce has soaked into the rice as well! The pork in Obihiro is incredibly tender and the fat is sweet and delicious! The rice is also so good! The flavor change with sansho pepper is also great! The green peas on the skewer are a nice touch! I quickly and deliciously finished the meal! I feel like I could eat more, so next time I'll go for Ichi (lol). Thank you for the delicious meal once again!

There were no restaurants open until 8 pm, so I was about to give up and head back to the hotel. But then I found a place that was still open and decided to go in. I ordered the Jiro and Saburo ramen. The miso soup was extra, so I skipped it. They had self-service for water, tea, and coffee. I didn't have to wait long for my food to arrive. The tare sauce was especially delicious. I'm glad I decided to eat here.

I went to Buta Hachi-san! They have moved to a new location in the city center. The store is long and narrow. The menu seems to be the same as before. I ordered the smallest pork bowl and miso soup, which cost 795 yen in total. The miso soup with tofu was 155 yen. It arrived in about 8 minutes. The bowl was indeed small but bigger than I expected. It was delicious, with a slightly sweet and slightly bitter sauce. The pork slices were thin and it felt a bit lacking in meat. This pork bowl is unique with green peas as a feature. The presentation with skewers was nice. In these times, there are many changes in the city center. I hope we can soon freely enjoy eating out without any worries. Thank you for the meal.

On April 29, 2021, "Charcoal-grilled Pork Bowl Buta Hachi" opened in Obihiro. The Buta Hachi pork bowl allows you to choose the size from Ichiro to Shiro, which determines the amount of pork and rice. Additionally, the Mega Buta Don, equivalent to six regular bowls, is perfect for sharing with the whole family! The location is where Torihiko 3rd store used to be. The interior is spacious with a deep layout, which may take some time to navigate. Masks are required, and hand sanitizing is available at the entrance. The menu remains similar to the previous store, with the addition of a new menu item, "Whey Pork Don (pork belly)" for 1000 yen. The staff was polite and the food was delicious, with a slightly sweet and savory sauce. Overall, it was a satisfying dining experience. Don't forget to mention the website for a 100 yen discount. Check out "Charcoal-grilled Pork Bowl Buta Hachi" in Obihiro for a taste of authentic pork bowls!

I thought the portion was too big, so I went with Ichiro, but I could have gone with Jiro. The sauce was not too sweet and had a nice aroma, like an eel bowl. The miso soup with nameko mushrooms was also delicious.

I had some soba before heading home. It was quite a long drive. Now, I will have dinner at home, and I bought something on the way back. It's called "Buta Hachi from Obihiro", which is a pork bowl. My wife had it before and said it was delicious, so I decided to buy it this time. It's a bento with a warming function that you can buy at the station. When you pull the string under the bento box, steam comes out. It gets really hot, so be careful not to burn yourself. I tried it, and it was nice to be able to eat a warm bento on the train. The taste was like reheated rice, and the pork on top was a bit thin and flimsy. However, the seasoning was not overly sweet, with a natural sweetness that I liked. My wife loved it. I also bought something called "Buta Sara", which was basically just the meat part of the pork bowl. It would be a great snack with some good sake on the train. It was also delicious. This bento must have been groundbreaking when it was first developed. It was a valuable experience for me, someone who doesn't travel by train. It was delicious! Thank you for the meal!
