In March 2020, I visited "Ramen Kiraku" for the first time, which had relocated to Tomakomai and opened at this new location. The restaurant was originally established at this location. I had visited "Kiraku" at their previous location. I knew that they had changed to a Chinese-style restaurant after moving to Tomakomai, but I had not visited yet. Recently, I have been in the mood for "Chinatown-style" cuisine, so I decided to visit as it was not too far from my home. It seems that the restaurant is run by an elderly couple. Their specialty seems to be the "Mapo Tofu." I ordered the "Gomoku Ankake Soup Noodles" for 810 yen, which is essentially Cantonese noodles. The dish came with shrimp, pork, carrots, black fungus, shimeji mushrooms, bamboo shoots, and cabbage. The sauce had a gentle flavor, but for some reason, it did not quite blend well with the soup. The noodles were smooth, but overall, the dish didn't quite hit the mark for me. My spouse ordered the "Mapo Tofu Set" for 1,050 yen. Although my spouse is not fond of spicy food, they still ordered it. I tried a bit of the dish, and unfortunately, I felt that the Mapo Tofu lacked richness. While it had some spiciness, it could have been spicier. They also provided Sichuan pepper, but it was in a grinder that we couldn't get to work. The rice was a bit too soft for my liking. This set comes with three small side dishes and one rice refill for 840 yen on weekdays, and on weekends, it includes almond jelly instead of the side dishes for 1,050 yen. Hmm, it seems like it's more suited for weekdays. As a fan of Chinatown-style cuisine, I was somewhat underwhelmed by this restaurant.
