110 yen for Becco Mochi, it's been a few years since I last visited Kotobuki-cho in Rumoi District. I tried the Becco Mochi from Shinshima Shoten. Becco Mochi is not a traditional rice cake like in Hokkaido or Tohoku, but more like a dumpling. It has a nostalgic taste that you sometimes crave. It is made of white and brown mochi, with the brown part made of black sugar. This Becco Mochi doesn't contain preservatives for longer shelf life, so when you buy it, it's a bit hard. But if you warm it up in the microwave or oven, it tastes delicious.

☆Visit on 2011.10.10 (Mon.)☆ Today, I visited my parents' house after a long time, so I stopped by Kodaira Town to get some souvenirs. Just to clarify, my parents' house is in Mashike Town, written as "Masuke" (`・ω・´)シャキーン It's about a one-hour drive south from my town on Route 231. The go-to treat for my parents' house is the "beko mochi" from Mashima Shoten in Onishika, Kodaira Town. They are always open like this (*´∀`*) There are various types of beko mochi, despite the name. In my hometown, my grandmother used to make beko mochi in white and dark brown colors, cut into leaf shapes. However, since coming to Tomamae Town, my mother-in-law's beko mochi has colorful flower patterns on the cross-section, which surprised me. While not as intricate as this, you can see an example on their website here. My mother-in-law is from Morimachi in Dounan, so she may have inherited the style from there. I've tried making it together a few times, but I still haven't mastered it... (.;ω;.) I'll have to ask her to teach me again! (`・ω・´)シャキーン Now, I wonder if Mashima Shoten's beko mochi from Onishika is similar to the "tabane" on the reference website? It has a gentle sweetness and a firm, chewy texture. Not only my parents' house but also the neighbors highly praise Mashima's beko mochi♪ Today, I bought 30 pieces. They can be frozen, so I always buy a lot to take home (*´m`*) The photo is of a "corner piece" we received as a bonus♪ It was twice as thick as a regular beko mochi, which was a delightful surprise☆ Thank you, Mashima Shoten☆ ((Delicious´〜`Taste))Mogumogu*☆*。♪。*★*。♪。*☆*。♪。*★*。♪。*☆*。♪。*★* Mashima ShotenKodaira Town, Rumoi District, Onishika, Minatomachi 134TEL: 0164-57-15018:00-17:00(?)Irregular holidays (almost always open) It's best to make a reservation in advance♪食べログ (Tabelog)
