This is a local products center at Bihoro Station. Freshly picked local vegetables are sold at a low price. I bought a lot of my favorite tomatoes here. It costs around 100 yen for this amount, so it's cheap. I think they also sell meat and other products. It would be nice if there was a place like this in Mombetsu too.

This is the souvenir shop adjacent to JR Bihoro Station in Bihoro Town. "Bihoro Yokocho" mainly sells fresh vegetables from nearby farmers and local specialty products. Each vegetable is displayed with a photo and the name of the producer. It's nice, isn't it? My wife bought a lot of fresh vegetables at a low price. The selection is good for the season. Lettuce, onions, eggplants, corn, garlic, etc. My purpose here is buckwheat flour. I like the strong aroma of Bihoro-produced buckwheat flour. It looks like I'm actually making soba noodles, right? (laughs) I don't have time to make soba noodles, so I haven't improved at all. I can finally make 80% soba noodles recently. I also use buckwheat flour for soba noodles and buckwheat flour galette shochu. I might use it more for that purpose. (*^.^*) We will enjoy the fresh vegetables we bought before they spoil. It's a fun time to visit vegetable direct sales outlets! ^^

I came to Bihoro for work, and I will return to the company after I finish. Since it's morning, I won't be heading straight back. As I stroll through the town, I come across a sign that says "Takeout Only" - it's for gyoza. I think to myself, "Should I stop by?" but end up walking past it. Before I know it, I've arrived at the station. Sometimes I take the JR to Bihoro and enjoy a drink here. Next to Bihoro Station, there is a shop called "Popoya Souvenir Shop" where you can find a variety of local products from Bihoro town. They also offer online shopping services. They sell local vegetables and pottery. Since it's not the right season for vegetables, I spot some eggs in the fridge. I love eggs, so I quickly buy a pack of 6 for 160 yen. It's a good deal to get so many at once. Three taxis are parked outside, and three people gather around one. One person is holding bread and an adult magazine - it seems like a swap meet is starting. I can't stay here staring at this scene forever, so I head back. There's a "Police Brown" chicken - not related to the police. It's a small breed that lays a lot of eggs. It reminds me of the "Sleepyhead in the Back" I saw the other day. The chicken is eating better food than me, enjoying free-range life. When I get home, I make a Tamago Kake Gohan (raw egg over rice) with the eggs I bought. It's sweet and delicious. I'm not amazed, but it's still tasty. If I come across them again, I'll definitely buy more. Bihoro town is known for the song "Bihoro Pass" by Misora Hibari and was a filming location for the movie "Your Name." The town has long hours of sunlight and a high diurnal temperature difference, making it ideal for growing vegetables. Many farmers are now focusing on organic vegetable cultivation. The town is also close to Memanbetsu Airport, making it convenient for shipping fresh produce.

Continuing the 1 night 2 day road trip in October 2021, on the way back from Mombetsu, I arrived at Bihoro Station. This is my second time in Bihoro. Next to the station, there is a local products center where I come every year to buy vegetables. They were selling new onions, which I bought. The skin was not too dry, so they must be fresh and juicy. I also bought potatoes from Aozora Market and made croquettes with them. Here is an example of the cooking process. When you sauté the onions, they become sweet and juicy, making the croquettes very delicious. The finished croquettes turned out to be very tasty. These would definitely sell well. Thank you for the meal.

Continuing with the review of Bihoro Town... I actually went twice in one week, two days in a row each time. Next to the station, there is a tourist information center and a local products hall. While waiting for the bus, I wandered around the hall to see if there was anything interesting. They had locally processed ham, sausages, mountain delicacies, vegetables, handicrafts, etc. I purchased the "Mustard Frank @160" from "Bakery Hosokawa" and enjoyed it on the way back in the car. The frank was firm, with ketchup, mustard mayo, and the bread was soft and small. Overall, it was decent for the price. This bakery, which is locally established and sold on consignment in various places in the city, seems to be useful for everyday use. I will definitely visit one of them again. Thank you for the meal.
