Around Asao, it's lunchtime and I feel like having some soba. I spot a shop a few hundred meters away that I remember seeing before, called "Gomosoba Dokoro Yuuzuru". There are about 4-5 parking spaces in front of the shop, which seems to be a combination of a residence and a store. It's a clean, well-built house, including the interior. The counter seats are divided into two sections, with 4 seats thinned out due to the pandemic, 2 raised seating areas, and 2 tables. It's just before lunchtime and there are no other customers yet. I'm invited to sit wherever I like, so I choose a counter seat by the window. A glass of water is brought to me, but I would have preferred a wet towel given the current situation. I look at the menu. Soba dishes range from 700 yen for "mori" or "kake" to 1,550 yen for "Shanghai-style cold noodles". Rice bowl options include "tamago-don" and "oyako-don" for 850 yen, "katsu-don" and "ika tempura-don" for 950 yen, and "unagi-don" for 2,600 yen. Set meals like "tamago-don", "oyako-don", "katsu-don", "ika tempura-don", "gyudon", "ebi tempura-don", and "yakiniku-don" are all priced at 980 yen. While the set meals seem like a good deal, the pricing doesn't quite sit right with me. The soba prices are on par with high-end soba shops, but the set meal prices feel more like those at a local diner. In my personal opinion, I think they should lower the soba prices slightly and reevaluate the prices of the set meals based on the items. I order the "mori soba" for 700 yen. It arrives in 6 minutes, along with a bowl of soba water. The tray includes soba, condiments, a serving pitcher with dipping sauce, an empty small cup, and disposable chopsticks. On the table are packets of shichimi spice and toothpicks. The soba noodles are long and slightly difficult to handle, but they are cooked just right with a smooth texture and a good chew. The sesame topping adds a pleasant flavor without overpowering the soba. The dipping sauce has a nice bonito flavor with a subtle sweetness that reminds me of "Azuma-ya". The soba water is light and refreshing. Overall, the taste suits my preferences. I'm more interested in the set meals than the soba dishes on the menu, so I might try the katsu-don or oyako-don set next time. I wish the "mori soba" was a bit cheaper. Thank you for the meal.
