Another wonderful restaurant article this time. It was in May last year. I went to a cafeteria near Hokkaido University for lunch. The restaurant is located on the first floor of a building, not very noticeable. The standout feature is the flashy yellow board. The name of the restaurant is "Miyuki-chan Teishoku." It's not a "cafeteria," but a "set meal" as the name of the store has changed. The name "Miyuki-chan" suggests a cafeteria run by a cute (or used to be cute?) female owner. Or maybe the wife of the restaurant's loving owner is named "Miyuki-chan"? This place seems to pride itself on serving large seafood dishes to students. Now, about the yellow board in front of the store. Yellow is quite flashy. I wonder if Miyuki-chan likes flashy things like Osaka's aunties? The most popular item in the store is the "Two-Sword Style Menu" which includes 10 pieces of assorted sushi and a special seafood bowl set for a surprising special price of 1,390 yen. Sushi and seafood bowl for 1,390 yen, that's definitely cheap! It's no wonder they boast about their large seafood dishes. Oh? It's not a "seafood bowl," but a "seafood bowl set"? Why is it a set meal? Inside the store, the entrance is narrow and extends deep inside. On the left as you enter, there are four counter seats facing the wall, and further back, there are two tables. On the right, there is a cash register, a refrigerator, and five counter seats facing the kitchen. The floor attendant, an old lady, assigns seats to customers. I, a solo customer, was directed to a counter seat on the kitchen side. Inside the store, there is now a purple board with the menu item "Our Most Popular Two-Sword Style" listed. It includes 10 pieces of assorted sushi and a special seafood bowl set. And next to that, there is a special seafood bowl set for 1,000 yen. It seems like this is recommended for "first-time customers" to try. However, 10 pieces of sushi with a seafood bowl... isn't that enough for two people? There's no way I can eat that much! So should I go for the special seafood bowl set instead? But that's also quite large. I actually looked at the photos on Tabelog. It seems like it's too much to handle if I'm not feeling well. Therefore, this time, I'll go for a more modest order. I'm sorry to those readers who were expecting something more. I'll go for the Salmon and Tuna Set Meal, please! "Would you like some sushi with that?" "No, thank you." This time, I decided to hold back a bit. The Salmon and Tuna Half Set Meal is filled with plenty of salmon and tuna sashimi! And there's a small side dish, miso soup, and pickles. Oh? Where's the rice? The large plate is filled with salmon and tuna sashimi. Underneath the sashimi, there was rice. It's quite an impressive dish. I calmly take a sip of the miso soup. I'm not a fan of salmon sashimi, to be honest. I don't like the farmed salmon sashimi because of its fishy smell. But Hokkaido salmon is delicious for some reason. There's almost no fishy smell from farmed salmon. And then the tuna sashimi. I put it on the rice and eat it like sushi. There are three side dishes as well. Simmered dried daikon radish, cold tofu, and macaroni salad. There's too much sashimi, and the balance with the rice is off! It's a luxurious complaint about the sashimi set meal. If I have the chance next time, I would love to try the seafood bowl set meal or the sushi set. And next time, I'll make sure to go on an empty stomach. Thank you for the meal.
