After drinking a lot in Abashiri city, we went to Sukiya, which is open 24 hours, for a final toast. My stomach was already quite full, so I ordered the gyudon and raised a toast with beer! Oh, this gyudon is perfect as a beer snack with its rich flavor. It was just right for nibbling on while drinking. I took a sip and a bite, and even though we only stayed for about 15 minutes, surprisingly, I felt quite satisfied.

I got tired of shoveling snow, so I decided to eat out. It's been a few years since I last went to Sukiya. They had touch panel screens on the tables, which was pretty modern! I took my time deciding what to order. I got a beef bowl with cheese topping, miso soup, and pickles for about 590 yen. I also got another beef bowl with grated ponzu sauce for 550 yen, and added grated yam for 150 yen. The miso soup was a bit salty for my taste, but I guess that's common for eating out. Even with all the extras, it was still under 1000 yen. I appreciate that. I'd like to try their morning set meal next time. Thank you for the meal!

When we were doing a road station tour and wanted to save some money, we decided to use this restaurant as our breakfast spot. We arrived around 8:30 in the morning and found the place surprisingly crowded with families and what seemed like night shift workers. The staff, who seemed new, were struggling to keep up with the orders, so it took quite a while for our food to arrive. However, the breakfast set was really cost-effective, making the wait seem somewhat understandable. We will likely use this place again when we go on another road station tour.

I arrived in Abashiri on my day off at 2:00 PM for my cat's neutering surgery. They told me to come pick him up at 4:00 PM. I decided to kill time by going to Sukiya because I felt like eating curry. The road was narrow, so Sukiya was the first place that came to mind since they have a parking lot. There were two groups of customers and two staff members when I got there. It was really cold. I ordered a regular size curry, but when it arrived, it was served in a deep, large plate with lots of potatoes. The taste was not very spicy, more on the sweet side. The pork pieces were tender and delicious. One of the four students at the table asked if they could take the leftovers home. The staff hesitated at first, but eventually packed it for them. It's nice to see such considerate young people. I then killed time by climbing a hill and doing some shopping before going to pick up my cat. When I applied for the subsidy for the neutering surgery, they asked me to take a photo. I confirmed with them that one photo was enough, and when I saw the picture, I burst out laughing. It was a funny and silly picture of my chubby and silly-faced cat.

Gyudon, regular size, 350 yen in Abashiri. It's located in front of the station. There's nothing much around if you go late. No convenience stores either. Even the ramen shop is closed. So, I guess it's okay to go to Sukiya. I haven't been here much lately, but if I can eat quickly, it's fine.

Beef bowl with extra meat, miso soup, and egg for 680 yen (tax included). It's a set, but I wonder if it's cheaper? The taste is consistent no matter which Sukiya you go to (^_^)v. The beef bowl takes a while to come out (T_T). After finishing eating, there were 4 people waiting at the register, but the staff didn't come for a while. When they finally did, they were out of change and had to wait for a refill. Seems like they were short on staff during lunchtime.

Tonjiru (pork miso soup) and tamago kake gohan (rice with raw egg) make for a delicious breakfast. In Hokkaido, while chains like Yoshinoya, Matsuya, and Nakau only have stores in larger towns, Sukiya can be found even in smaller towns, making it convenient for breakfast when traveling by overnight bus. The tonjiru is delicious, and the tamago kake gohan is also tasty. I am grateful to have been born Japanese.

I arrived at Abashiri Station at 8:17. The next train is in 19 minutes. I thought about getting a sandwich at the convenience store on the right side of the station, but I saw a Sukiya on the other side and headed there instead. Normally, I would add toppings, but considering there was only one staff member and the time it takes to prepare, I just ordered a regular beef bowl.

In the morning, having grilled eel is nice, but I prefer a typical Japanese breakfast. I ordered a set meal with raw egg and natto topping, along with a side of beef at Yoshinoya. Raw egg and natto are a must for breakfast. And the beef bowl side dish at Yoshinoya is only 430 yen. It's really cheap. The rice portion is quite large, so I put half natto and half raw egg on it, plus the beef side dish. I mixed it all together and enjoyed it. I ended up eating too much, but I'm completely satisfied.

Today I had the day off and went to the hospital. I thought it was the obstetrics and gynecology department, but at the reception they said, "It's the surgery department." Maybe I should have gone to a local hospital instead? It took 2 and a half hours to finally see the doctor. The result was along the lines of "It's not cancer. You just have to endure it." I was hungry after that! I wanted to go to the city, but parking was a hassle and I didn't feel like walking in light clothing, so I gave up and stopped by a Sukiya on the way back with a parking lot. It's been 5 years since I last visited the Sukiya in Monbetsu! I had curry last time, so it's my first time having beef bowl! I thought there wouldn't be many people in front of the station, but it was crowded because there was a parking lot. Since I was alone, I hesitated a bit and sat between two men who were sitting apart. I thought there would be a ticket machine, but it's an order system. There were so many menu options that I was indecisive, and curry was more expensive. In the end, I ordered a regular size and an 80 yen miso soup. The waitress served it right away. The portion of rice was larger than I expected. It's a big bowl! It's my first time trying it and I thought, "Oh, it's sweet and spicy!" The taste was slightly different from what I imagined. It's somewhat spicy, or rather "sweet and spicy." I wonder if they simmer it with chili peppers? The beef is thinly sliced like for shabu-shabu, so it's tender and delicious. The miso soup had fried tofu, seaweed, and green onions. I alternated between eating the beef and rice, but in the end, there was still rice left over. I ate it with the miso soup. The waitress said, "Thank you. Please come again." when I left. When I told my husband that I had beef bowl, he said, "Even the regular size is quite big. And if you take it to go, they give you a bit more." He was talking about something completely unreliable. If there's a parking lot, I'll definitely go again... It's cheap. I just realized that on Tabelog, you can only rate meals as either lunch or dinner, so you can't rate breakfast (lol). For convenience, I will rate it as lunch. For breakfast on the second day of my trip to Abashiri, I went to "Sukiya". I love having beef bowls for breakfast ♡ It's the best to have a beef bowl before heading home after staying overnight at work. This time, I won't be sleeping after eating, as the main purpose of this trip is to cycle from Abashiri to Shari and back, covering about 80 kilometers. I want to eat something filling beforehand, as it will take me over 3 hours with my weak legs. I opted for a regular-sized beef bowl to avoid feeling too heavy. It's been about a year and a half since I last had a beef bowl at Sukiya, and I noticed that it had a stronger ginger flavor this time. The onions were still a bit firm, and the flavor didn't penetrate all the way through. In the end, the power of the beef bowl kicked in about 2 hours and 30 minutes after eating. It's tricky to get the right nutrition before exercising... (=_=)
