I visited "Hakonosushi Akarikaki," a hidden gem for adults located in the Gion area! If you didn’t know about it, you might think twice about entering the building on the 4th floor. Upon reaching the 4th floor, you'll find the restaurant right away, and the interior is exceptionally beautiful! I tried the Instagram-exclusive item "Akarikaki Box - Dance of Meat" priced at ¥2800 (¥3080 including tax), which is not listed on the regular menu and can only be ordered by those who saw it on Instagram. This impressive box sushi is filled with A5 Wagyu beef and salmon roe, and there’s a huge head-on shrimp in the center! The A5 Wagyu is slightly rare and melts in your mouth—so luxurious! The salmon roe is sourced from Hokkaido and has a delightful pop! The table features a variety of soy sauces, which you can try drop by drop using a special pipette, which is a nice touch! I sampled them all, but my favorite was the "Saishikomi Soy Sauce." Additionally, a hot dashi broth comes with the dish, allowing you to pour it over the sushi in a style reminiscent of hitsumabushi! The combination of the meat's flavor and the dashi was fantastic! The head-on shrimp was also delicious, with lots of flavorful roe and a nice firm texture. The red miso soup had a rich dashi flavor, which was great! The drink selection is extensive, and I opted for a soft drink, the "Kishu Arakawa White Peach Juice." It was a rich and thick juice with just the right amount of sweetness—very tasty! After the meal, they served "Akarikaki Mochi," freshly baked in-house, along with warm tea. The mochi was made with rice flour and wrapped around sweet red bean paste—absolutely delicious! I highly recommend you go check it out!

Beautifully arranged sushi with a variety of toppings is served. In the center, there's shrimp that is absolutely delicious. The ingredients can be enjoyed with warm dashi broth, allowing for dishes like dashi-chazuke or hitsumabushi, and everything is accompanied by wasabi, seaweed, and rice crackers for the chazuke. There are different types of soy sauce available for added enjoyment. Lastly, a mini dessert of an sweet bean paste roll served as an accent.

I visited 【Hakonosushi】 located in Gion Shijo. This restaurant opened on September 9 in Kyoto and proposes a new style of sushi called Hakonosushi. They use carefully selected fresh seafood from fishing ports across Japan and the finest rice that Japan has to offer. What I enjoyed was the "Irodori Akari Bako" (Deluxe Box) priced at 4,180 yen. The wooden box was filled with vinegared rice, topped with a luxurious assortment of seafood including toro (fatty tuna), sea urchin, scallops, salmon, tuna, raw shrimp, salmon roe, eel, roast beef, crab, and sea bream, representing the best of various regions in Japan. There were various types of soy sauce available, such as oyster soy sauce, aged soy sauce, sweet soy sauce, and thick soy sauce, allowing for a unique pairing experience with the sushi. You can even turn the leftovers into “hitsumabushi” (a rice dish). The seafood was sweet and had an amazing melt-in-your-mouth quality. It was an exquisite box sushi, quite indulgent. I highly recommend trying it at least once!

I came across this place on Instagram and decided to try it. There are regular and premium options, and since it was my first time, I went with the regular. It’s not just about being Instagram-worthy sushi; while it certainly looks beautiful and photographs well, each piece of fish was wonderfully fatty and incredibly delicious! The pieces were thick, and the freshness meant the fat repelled the soy sauce. So glossy! The sushi rice was perfectly textured—not too soft—and tasty as well. Some might find the amount of rice a bit on the lower side, but with the generous portions of fish, I felt very satisfied. It was also fun to try the various soy sauces available on the table! Personally, I preferred the sweet one. I arrived right when they opened, so I didn’t have to wait much, but it seemed like there might be a lot of Uber Eats orders coming in, as things got a bit slower when more people arrived. The staff was kind and attentive, checking if we needed more water or broth and offering a polite farewell. I definitely want to come back to this wonderful place. Thank you for the meal! Next time, I want to try the premium option.

This is so beautiful that it makes me wonder if it should really be called a seafood bowl. It looks just like a jewel box... A lovely restaurant opened in Gion, Kyoto in September 2024. I’ve found a place that I truly want to recommend to others after a long time. What I ordered was the "Irodori Akari Bako," special version, for 3,800 yen. The sushi comes in a wooden box filled with vinegared rice, topped with luxurious ingredients like sea urchin, scallops, salmon, tuna, shrimp, roast beef, crab, and eel, beautifully arranged with fresh seafood from all over Japan. The flavors of the fish were sweet, making it incredibly delicious. There’s a clever design that allows you to enjoy a variety of ingredients in a single meal, especially with the wide selection of soy sauces. There were five different kinds of soy sauce, including oyster soy sauce, sweet soy sauce, and aging soy sauce. The container was so beautiful that I thought it could be from Aesop!? The experience ends with a dashi broth, allowing you to enjoy it as a grilled eel rice dish as well. The owner even came out to greet all the customers, showing exceptional hospitality. Interestingly, everyone else in the restaurant besides us was foreign! It was truly delicious, and I want to return again. When we visited, it wasn't too crowded, but it seems like it could become very popular, making it hard to get a table in the future...

The restaurant opened in Gion in September 2024. I visited for lunch and enjoyed the signature dish, the "Colorful Akari Box" Premium. The dish is presented in a wooden box filled with sushi rice, topped with an array of seafood such as sea urchin, scallops, salmon, tuna, shrimp, roast beef, crab, and eel, all beautifully arranged. There are five types of soy sauce available: oyster soy sauce, sweet soy sauce, and seasoning soy sauce, along with special sauces and condiments for a variety of flavor combinations. Although the sushi rice retains its tangy flavor, it can also be enjoyed as a broth-dipped dish with dashi. The meal comes with miso soup and dessert, which is a rice cake. The restaurant has about six tables and seems to attract many visitors, especially those sightseeing in Kyoto.

Color Akari Box Special ¥3,800 (excluding tax). There’s a coin parking lot just to the east. It was a busy day with many foreign visitors, and when I arrived after 6 PM, there were already three groups ahead of me. There were two tables available, but they were already reserved, and soon after, the place was completely full with people waiting. Making a reservation seems like a good idea. They have six different types of soy sauce, which was a bit overwhelming! The presentation was colorful and appealing. I ended my meal with eel served in the style of Hitsumabushi. It was delicious!

On September 9, "Hakonosushi Aya Akari" opened near Yasaka Shrine in Kyoto, proposing a new style of sushi and seafood. "Hakonosushi" offers three types: premium, regular, and chirashi. The premium option features a luxurious selection of 17 carefully chosen seafood varieties from fishing ports across the country, beautifully arranged. You can choose from various soy sauces and dipping sauces tailored to each seafood or your preference. Additionally, it comes with dashi, allowing you to enjoy it "hitsumabushi" style by pouring it over rice, making for a delicious experience. It's a dish that brings happiness through both sight and taste! There are currently promotions on Google reviews offering free toppings. It’s a 7-minute walk from Yasaka Shrine, and with "Sankin Garage" next door, you can easily reach the location by car without getting lost!

I heard that a charming box sushi restaurant opened in Gion, and since I was curious, I quickly went there! I took the elevator to the 4th floor of the building, feeling excited as I entered a space filled with a traditional Japanese atmosphere—so beautifully Kyoto! There were three menu options, and after some hesitation, I ordered the recommended Deluxe box sushi. It featured premium ingredients like uni, fatty tuna, A5 wagyu beef, salmon roe, lean tuna, eel, crab meat, scallops, shrimp, sea bream, and salmon, all beautifully arranged along with the fresh fish of the day in a box called "Irodori Akari." This luxurious sushi box is made with carefully selected ingredients and costs ¥4,180 (tax included). When it arrived, I was incredibly surprised by how cute it was! It looked just like a treasure box of sushi—a sight so stunning it made me think of Hikomo's catchphrase! Everything was beautifully presented and shiny. I didn’t know where to start! Each piece of sashimi was fresh and delicious, and I was already satisfied with just the fish. But the lightly grilled wagyu beef added a luxurious touch, and it was tender and tasty! The raw shrimp were even popping out of the box—what a delightful surprise! The presence of fatty tuna made it even more delicious and rich. The aroma of the cedar box added an extra special touch to the sushi experience. There were five types of soy sauce to choose from: - Reworked soy sauce for salmon - Oyster soy sauce for scallops - White soy sauce for salmon roe - Sweet soy sauce for sea bream - Dark soy sauce for the grilled meat Trying out different soy sauces was enjoyable, as everyone has their preferences. The broth was made from kelp and bonito, and you could drizzle it over the sushi for double the delight. At the end, they served a traditional Japanese sweet—a Mochi with beautiful colors. The mochi dough was soft and delicious, and I learned that it’s freshly made in-house. It seems that all menu options currently come with this lovely service! The box sushi was incredibly delicious, and since the autumn foliage season will soon bring many tourists, I recommend going now to unwind and enjoy it. Be sure to check it out!

Experience a new style of sushi at Hakonosushi in Gion, Kyoto! This beautiful sushi is so stunning that you might hesitate to eat it. Wrapped in the fresh scent of wood, Hakonosushi evokes the ancient city of Kyoto and transforms your luxurious lunch time in Gion into a delightful experience. You can customize your meal in various ways, including selecting from five types of stylish pipette-style soy sauce: re-steeped soy sauce, white soy sauce, oyster soy sauce, sweet soy sauce, and thick soy sauce. There's also a standard dashi soy sauce to match each ingredient perfectly. Furthermore, since there is dashi included, you can enjoy using it like in hitsumabushi, which adds a delightful twist to your meal. The new standard Hakonosushi offers three varieties: the Special Akari Box (3,800 yen), the Regular (2,800 yen), and the Chirashi (1,800 yen). On my day off, I happily paired the Special with some non-alcoholic beer. The Special Akari Box is visually stunning! It includes an abundance of toppings such as ikura (salmon roe), tuna, eel, crab meat, scallops, shrimp, sea bream, salmon belly, uni (sea urchin), wagyu beef, and live shrimp. The chirashi is also packed with seafood, wagyu beef, and egg, making it vibrant and satisfying. Each dish contains a little over 250g of rice, perfect for filling up. Finally, utilizing the dashi for a flavor change is an excellent idea! It's a feast for the eyes and the palate—truly a treasure box of food! For dessert, I enjoyed a one-bite-sized crepe filled with sweet red bean paste, freshly made in the store, reflecting the warmth of the owner couple. Hakonosushi Akari just opened on September 9th, and it has the potential to become a new standard and a must-visit establishment in Gion.

I finally got to visit "Aya Akari," which opened in September 2024! **Order:** "Aya Akari Box - Special" (4,180 yen) featuring tuna, sea urchin, wagyu beef, live shrimp, salmon roe, mackerel, eel, crab meat, scallops, shrimp, sea bream, salmon, and egg. **Impressions:** The specially crafted wooden box, "Aya Akari Box," is filled with a colorful array of seafood! There are so many ways to enjoy it! It tastes delicious like chirashi sushi or as hitsumabushi (grilled eel over rice). It’s also great with the special sauce or soy sauce. The live shrimp sitting proudly in the center is fresh and has a great bounce! It pairs wonderfully with oyster soy sauce! The wagyu beef complemented the seafood nicely, allowing you to savor the meat's flavor on its own! The salmon is delicious as is, but it becomes even better when prepared hitsumabushi style! The combination of dashi and salmon is phenomenal! **Atmosphere:** The restaurant has a Japanese ambiance with bright lighting as a distinctive feature! There are counter and table seats, making it a perfect spot for a date. Thank you for the wonderful meal!

I went to "Hakonosushi Ayaakari" in Gion, Kyoto, which just had its grand opening on September 9! I had been curious about it and finally got the chance to visit! They serve exquisite seafood selected from various fishing ports across the country, paired with the finest rice. There are three types of sushi boxes available: the top-class Ayaakari box (¥4180), the premium box (¥3080), and the chirashi (¥1980). I ordered the finest one! The Ayaakari box - top-class (¥4180) includes: toro (fatty tuna), uni (sea urchin), wagyu (Japanese beef), raw shrimp, ikura (salmon roe), tuna, eel, crab meat, scallops, shrimp, sea bream, salmon, and egg. The presentation was stunning, and it felt incredibly luxurious! I was unsure of where to start because everything looked so delicious! While I enjoyed all the ingredients, I particularly loved the toro, uni, raw shrimp, and eel! They also had various types of soy sauce, each with a unique flavor - very good! You could even pour dashi (broth) over it to enjoy it in a hitsumabushi style! It offered a gentle richness that was delightful to experience! With different flavor variations, I got to savor the ingredients in multiple ways. The vibrant colors made it look like a treasure box! It's bound to become popular! The dessert after the meal was also great! The restaurant had a clean and comfortable atmosphere, with seating at the counter and in box seats. The staff provided polite service and were wonderful people!

The carefully crafted Hakone sushi is offered as a boxed sushi option, beautifully arranged like a jewelry box and filled with high-quality ingredients. You can enjoy it as is, like a hitumabushi, or pour some broth over it. Although the current selection of alcoholic beverages isn't very extensive, there are plans to increase the variety of sake in the future. It’s a great deal as they offer a lot of toppings for free, according to Google reviews! I highly recommend making a trip to Kyoto just to enjoy this.

I heard that a new sushi restaurant specializing in boxed sushi opened in Kyoto, so I went to check it out. It's located on the fourth floor of a building, and as soon as you step out of the elevator, you’re in the restaurant. The ambiance is filled with Kyoto's charm, which is wonderful! ✨ There are counter seats and table seats. On the table, there are five types of special dipping sauces: premium seafood sauce, light soy sauce, sweet soy sauce, oyster sauce, and white soy sauce, all available to squeeze from droppers. ✨ I ordered the "Colorful Light Box - Special Edition - Nebuta Muddled" with white peach juice. This special box is beautifully designed and filled with fresh seafood from various regions of Japan, making it a luxurious dish. It includes items like salmon roe, tuna, eel, crab meat, scallops, shrimp, sea bream, salmon, seasonal seafood, fatty tuna, sea urchin, wagyu beef, and raw shrimp, making it visually stunning. I couldn't take my eyes off it! It also came with steaming hot red miso broth, and wasabi, pickled ginger, rice crackers, and shredded nori, which all added to the luxurious experience. ✨ I used a small dish for the special seafood sauce. The dish was served in a rice bowl, and I enjoyed it both with sauce and by pouring hot broth over it, akin to the "hitsumabushi" style. Everything was fresh and delicious! The raw shrimp was sweet and savory with plenty of shrimp paste. I was so happy to enjoy my favorite sea urchin and salmon roe! The cooking of the eel and wagyu beef was perfect as well. There were many ways to enjoy it, and both the sauces and soy were delicious, making me completely satisfied with just one dish! ✨ For drinks, I had "Nebuta Muddled" white peach juice, which was rich and tasty. For dessert, they served a warm "Colorful Light Rice Cake" made in-house, along with hot tea. ✨ The rice cake was soft and mochi-like, wrapped around sweet red bean paste and delicious! The warm tea was soothing and comforting. I felt so happy to dine in this healing space with such wonderful dishes! I highly recommend this restaurant, so I hope you all get to visit!

On September 9th, a new restaurant opened in Kyoto's Gion, specializing in fresh seafood, A5 grade wagyu beef, and the finest rice. Its signature dish, Hakono Sushi, is not only visually stunning but also made with fresh ingredients, with each piece crafted with care, offering a variety of flavors to enjoy. The special platter I tried featured an impressive 13 types of toppings: scallops, snow crab, salmon, yellowtail, belly tuna, red tuna, sea bream, eel, sea urchin, salmon roe, egg, sweet shrimp, and wagyu beef. This came with miso soup, pickles, and condiments for just 3,800 yen, which I think is quite a good value, especially in Gion. Moreover, there are multiple ways to enjoy it. You can taste it with four kinds of soy sauce sourced from across the country or try it drizzled with broth for a "hitsumabushi" style experience. It also comes with seaweed, wasabi, and colorful toppings. It's truly a treasure box of sushi that offers multiple delicious experiences in one bite! The owner's warm personality adds to the homey atmosphere, making it a great spot. This restaurant seems like it will appeal to inbound tourists as well.
