☆ Smoked Ham Rillettes Sandwich ★ Hojicha Latte ICE
During Golden Week, I was working on weekdays but had Sundays off, so I decided to pretend to be a tourist and enjoy cafes while walking around. However, this cafe had a very good sense of style. It made me feel that this was more about individual effort than regional characteristics. I'm happy that it's located in my local area. Lately, I've been looking for cafes with a high level of quality. I wonder if this is what urban cafes are like. I had the whole place to myself, it was blissful♪

The store displays and sells stylish miscellaneous goods and accessories. I ordered a limited-time watermelon frappe. The frappe was smooth and easy to drink, with a refreshing watermelon flavor that was perfect for the season! The watermelon used is called Shimaou watermelon, which has been grown by the owner's father for 50 years.

Even though it was a long holiday weekend, I had to work on my usual day off. However, I decided to explore my local area and visited this place after a long time. I saw the menu above and decided to order it right away. The soft serve ice cream was delicious as always, but the coffee jelly was exceptional. It says "drink" on the menu, and I was skeptical about being able to drink it easily, but it was actually very well thought out. The taste was outstanding, it was a great holiday.

When visiting tourist spots, it is a unique experience for travelers to stroll down the main street of a town and hop between delicious restaurants. Lately, my town has also started to have such charming eateries scattered around. So, I have been joining tourists in hopping between tasty restaurants. Wood & Star is a cafe, but they serve high-quality items and I always leave satisfied whenever I stop by. This time, I tried their summer limited frappe, which I enjoyed while sitting on one of their chairs. It was truly wonderful. Due to the pandemic, it's hard to travel far, so I've been spending my weekends in the local area.

After enjoying beer, hamburgers, and gelato, we decided to warm up with coffee before heading home on a weekend afternoon. It had been a while since we last visited this place. The sophisticated atmosphere here is in stark contrast to the friendly owner. I remember last time I was recovering from an illness and got takeout to enjoy at home, but being here now and looking at the coffee, I feel a sense of comfort and joy knowing it's made with care. I feel so relaxed. On the other hand, there was a limited edition salt from a certain culinary researcher that was being sold. It has a herbal quality and whispers gently to the food. It's a luxury to have a local store like this with such unique offerings, making me want to come back even more.

Visited Biei Town on March 12th (Friday) for some errands and decided to stop by this place I had been eyeing for a while. Checked the website in advance and confirmed they were open for business and had eat-in options. However, when I arrived a little after 11 am, there was no sign of them being open, so I went back to the nearby Michi-no-Eki parking lot. From inside the car, I checked their opening hours and if eat-in was available, then went back in at 11:30 am. There weren't any other customers at that time. The interior of the shop had various artworks on display, creating a nice atmosphere. (This time, they had a Fukurumono exhibition until 4/18.) I ordered the strawberry and red bean sandwich with a Mandheling coffee! I'm a sucker for limited edition items. It arrived in about 10 minutes, and wow! Did I use that expression correctly? Well, let's just say this old man can be forgiven. The large croissant filled with red bean paste, whipped cream, and vibrant strawberries... Taking a bite, the gentle sweetness of the red bean paste melts in your mouth, followed by the delightful contrast of the sweet and sour strawberries. The coffee here was also delicious. It might look suspicious to see an old man grinning and eating in a cute cafe corner all by himself, but I really stumbled upon a gem. Thank you for the delicious lunch today.

Last month, I tried takeout for the first time. It was a delightful moment after a long time♪ I decided to go with coffee from El Salvador. They also included a side of bean salad. I have a weakness for limited-time offers (bitter smile). Anko and strawberries make a good combination, don't they? Strawberry Daifuku? Maybe more like a sandwich haha. Bringing it home and enjoying a leisurely lunch, truly a blissful moment. Winter is still lingering, but the feeling of spring is starting to bud in my heart. Thank you for the meal.

I was thinking that I wanted to eat something soft, so when I passed by this shop, I decided to go in. I ended up ordering their limited-time parfait on a whim. I had a rough idea of what it would look like from the photos, but experiencing the deliciousness in 3D, feeling the aroma and weight, made me excited. The waffle cone sticking out was a nice touch, following the parfait trend. I tried scooping the ice cream into the cone a few times. The lemon flavor added a nice touch of acidity, perfect for the hot summer (the temperature was over 30 degrees at that time). There was also a delicious yogurt hidden at the bottom. It seemed like they created this parfait anticipating the desire for a sweet and sour taste. I was grateful for that ^^

I was interested in the hearty "Banh Mi sandwich" at this shop. It is a cafe attached to a shop selling handmade pottery and various other artworks in Biei. Normally, you can either dine in or take out at the shop's front takeout window. I visited the shop even though they were only offering takeout service at the moment. I ordered the "Smoked Ham and Vegetable Sandwich" (572 yen), "Nutty Keema Curry Sandwich" (518 yen), and "Biei Red Bean Paste Sandwich" (486 yen). The Banh Mi sandwich was delicious and went well with wine. The other sandwiches were also tasty with generous fillings and unique flavors. I would like to try their coffee and soft serve made with Biei milk when dine-in service is available again.

Oh, there's a café in this area. It seems that a shop selling miscellaneous goods and tableware has reopened, along with a café section. There's a TO GO window outside. Next to it, there's a charming door that leads inside the shop. They offer several types of straight coffee. There are two types of Banh Mi sandwiches and also croissants with red bean paste. I decided to skip the soft serve made with Biei milk since it's a bit cold. My companion had a Banh Mi with homemade ham and lots of vegetables, along with homemade ginger ale. I opted for a croissant with red bean paste from the Biei Funayama Farm and a Mandheling (dark roast) straight coffee. There were various types of coffee available. They use 18g of charcoal-roasted beans for hand drip coffee. It's a self-service style where you pick up your order when your number is called. There's seating in the back with one table for four people and a counter with two seats (if I remember correctly). The trays have a handmade craft feel to them. They also sell small craft items. The Banh Mi was delicious. The bread was like soft French bread, tasty with juicy ham and lots of vegetables. The dressing soaked into the bread and complemented it well. The croissant had a mix of red bean paste and cream, not crispy like a traditional croissant, but the subtle sweetness of the red bean matched the croissant's flavor well. The coffee had a rich aroma and tasted delicious. The surrounding miscellaneous items were cute, with wooden products and unique-shaped mugs. The storm glass, which changes based on the weather and temperature, was particularly intriguing. It was a delightful meal.

This shop is selling and exhibiting the work of Suinokago-san, and they have recently opened a cafe. I visited the cafe and tried the following items: Chicken ham sandwich, Colombia Supremo coffee, and Soft waffle. The sandwich is in Vietnamese Banh Mi style and comes in about three varieties. It reminds me of Subway, but it is light yet filling. The coffee is also delicious. After finishing my meal, I ordered the soft serve. The soft serve made with Biei milk has a smooth texture. This place is very stylish and seems to cater to tourists. What's great is that it faces the main street, making it convenient for locals to visit. I have found my new routine spot for when I crave soft serve! Thank you for opening, I will definitely be back. ^^

The world is currently being affected by the coronavirus when it comes to scheduling for use. The weather is nice, but it's inevitable that we are dealing with an epidemic. It's impressive that the shops are open. I believe that I am not carrying the virus and order carefully at the restaurant. The soft serve is delicious and refreshing. Here in Biei, mainly schools are closed, which has led to a decrease in milk consumption. I hope to support the efforts of the producers somehow. I pray for the world to return to normal soon.
