Sudden business trip to Iwamizawa. I was planning to go to a Western-style restaurant for lunch that I saw in the morning, but then I noticed a sign saying "Lunch available" at another place. I was drawn towards it and entered the restaurant. It looked like an izakaya, but I couldn't see the name of the place. I asked if they were serving lunch and the staff replied cheerfully, "Yes, please have a seat at the counter." I ordered the daily special, although there were no details about the menu or prices. Soon, a hearty set meal was served with plenty of meat udon, gratin, simmered dish, and even salmon roe. The simple home-cooked flavors were delicious. The owner explained that they decided to open for lunch upon request, as there are few places in town offering lunch. Perhaps these dishes are meant to be enjoyed as appetizers with drinks. I was very satisfied with the meal. After finishing, a dessert of half a banana was served. When I nervously asked for the bill, it was only 750 yen! So cheap! When I revisited on January 11, 2018, they were no longer serving lunch. Tears.

The female owner (mama) of this shop used to work as a mama at a snack bar for about 15 years. I used to frequent that place a lot. Many of the regular customers from back then also visit this shop, so the conversations between the customers sitting at the counter and the mama are always lively. Sometimes, I run into familiar customers as well. The clientele here seems to be mostly middle-aged and elderly. Among them, I can't help but feel young myself. (laughs) The dishes served here are generally lightly seasoned but very delicious. There are also many types of sake available, so sake enthusiasts will be satisfied.
