After about 3 and a half years, I stayed at a hotel in Hokkaido for one night. The dinner was very satisfying, but how about the breakfast? Last time I had Japanese food, but this time I went for a soup curry style, although the bread was delicious, so choosing Western food might be the right choice. However, as someone who wants to eat rice in the morning, choosing Western food is difficult. This time I chose the soup curry style. (The following is almost quoted from the official website of Hokkaido Hotel)
- Hokkaido-grown rice "Fukkurinko" and hotel special soup curry for a morning curry experience
- Soup curry with finely chopped vegetables and a light curry flavor
- Hokkaido-grown premium rice "Fukkurinko" (refills available)
- Salad with fresh Hokkaido vegetables
- Yoghurt from Katsuyoshi-cho, Tokachi
- Assorted cheeses, pickled beans, and fruits
- Various drinks
The breakfast costs 2,500 yen if ordered separately, so I adjusted the amount accordingly. One companion chose Western food, another chose Japanese food, and I chose the soup curry style. It was good that we could choose from three options after sitting down for breakfast. The drinks were self-service, with mostly coffee-based options. Orange juice, milk (from Yotsuba), and more were available. It felt like a business hotel with a little extra. In these times, it's understandable, but self-service requires gloves and masks. The precautions are good, but for someone like me who wants to drink a lot, it's quite bothersome to use small glasses for multiple trips, so I would be happy if there were larger glasses. The soup curry style had lots of vegetables and a slightly sweet soup with a hint of curry spice added. It wasn't spicy at all, and the curry flavor was not very strong, as it was meant to be soup curry style for breakfast. However, the vegetables were well cooked, so there was no sense of cutting corners by adding ingredients later, which was good. It had a light taste that anyone could enjoy, and the generous amount of ingredients made me full. The "Fukkurinko" rice was cooked firm and was delicious. The salad was crunchy and tasty. The yoghurt from Katsuyoshi-cho was delicious and went well with the soup curry style. The fruit was two slices of pineapple, which was tasty on its own, but didn't quite match the soup curry style. The cheese and beans might be good for drinking, but felt a bit out of place with the soup curry style. I wish there was some pickled vegetables (like Fukujin-zuke) included. If I have the chance to go again, I probably wouldn't order the soup curry style. Western or Japanese food would be safer choices. It's nice to have many options though. The coupon we received with this plan (3,000 yen for 3 people) could be used at the shop, which was great. The sauna has also been renovated, making Hokkaido Hotel even more attractive. I definitely want to go back.
