I visited "Soup Curry Navy's Sapporo Main Store" on October 3rd for the first time. It used to be located in the Sansei Building along the tram street, which was said to be over 100 years old, but one day it closed down... Initially, it was announced as a renovation, but it ended up being a relocation. One day, I spotted the new location while the store was still open. I had been looking for the right timing to visit. There are a few parking spaces in front of the store. The previous location did not have parking spaces, so I wonder if this was one of the reasons for the move? I parked my car at a paid parking lot for another matter and walked to the restaurant. I visited alone at 6:00 PM. There were no other customers. The operation was handled by two female staff members. There are counter seats in front of the entrance and table seats on the right side. Since I was dining alone, I sat at the counter. A tablet for delivery orders was placed in front of me. They served water. When you have decided on your order, please let us know, they said. Normally, when I visit a new soup curry restaurant, I order the Chicken Leg, but wait, there's no Chicken Leg on the menu??? Well, it turns out there was, I just didn't notice it. I ended up ordering the Monthly Soup Curry with Chicken and Tempura Chicken for 1300 yen. The soup was the basic Royal spiciness level 4 (spicy), and the rice was a medium serving (200g) without any additional charge. Besides the basic soup, you can also choose from other types like Coconut or Shrimp. I noticed they had an option for an extra serving of rice for 100 yen, but I wondered if ordering the medium serving (200g) of rice again would be more cost-effective than the large serving (400g) for an additional 150 yen (laughs). Later, when I checked the menu, I found out there was a Chicken Leg option called "Chicken Flavor Soup Curry" for 1380 yen... What a mistake. The food was served after about a 7-minute wait. Forks and spoons were already on the table. The rice was Turmeric Rice. The Tempura Chicken was served separately. The soup curry was served in a shallow bowl. The toppings included pumpkin, eggplant, carrot, lotus root, broccoli, quail egg, bell pepper, potato ball, shredded red pepper, purple cabbage, and watercress, creating a colorful and visually appealing dish. The soup (basic Royal) was a light brown color. It had a strong Japanese-style broth flavor and was pleasantly spicy at level 4 (spicy). It had just the right amount of heat and a good umami taste. With this flavor, you could easily enjoy 300g of rice. Although there were additional spices on the table, I didn't use them because the soup curry was already loaded with various toppings. In general, when you think of soup curry, you imagine chunky vegetables, but this dish had a variety of thinly sliced vegetables. I think the size and texture of the vegetables play a significant role in the overall evaluation. I prefer lotus root and pumpkin to be cut at this thickness. The eggplant could be a bit larger though (laughs). The potato ball I mentioned was probably taro? It had a soft and creamy texture. It felt like a Japanese-style pace. It was my first time trying potato balls in soup curry. But on the flip side, there were no potatoes... a bit disappointing. The Tempura Chicken was served separately with three pieces. I added it to the soup curry seasoned with pepper. While I understand that they serve it separately to be enjoyed on its own, I was hoping for a Chicken Leg... my bad. I'll have to try the Chicken Leg menu next time. Thank you for the meal.
