This is a shop along the national highway in Rumoi. I bought two items. The first one is called "Beru," a chiffon cake made with rice flour created by a high school student. It was made using Hokkaido pumpkin, but the pumpkin flavor was subtle. It was delicious. The second item is "Beko Mochi," with a color resembling a cow's back. It was a mochi rich in the flavor of black sugar.

This is my second review. I purchased a chiffon cake called "Kome-dome" (Veil) made with 100% rice flour at the Michi-no-Eki in Rumoi. Compared to ones made with wheat, it has a slightly chewier texture but the taste is not much different. What's more important than the taste is that it is gluten-free. For those with wheat allergies, this product is very useful. It's important to note that wheat allergy and gluten-free are different. For more information, click here: https://foodbf.jp/1346/. Some people with severe allergies can have an anaphylactic reaction just from consuming wheat, which can be life-threatening. It's great to see more and more companies producing such products to make them widely available. Thank you for the meal.

Rumoi... Just a little outside the city area, there's a shop called "Wafu Kashi Nonnon" that caught my eye as I passed by several times. Finally, I decided to visit. I couldn't find much information about it online, with only one review on Tabelog from 2019. The store looks a bit worn out, not like a new shop. Inside, there was a middle-aged man in the kitchen and a woman who seemed like the mother arranging the products on the shelves. The man recommended a large castella cake, but I politely declined as it seemed too much for us to finish. I ended up buying a chestnut-filled dorayaki for 150 yen, a madeleine for 130 yen, and a pie manju for 140 yen (excluding tax). On the bus to Sapporo, I tried the dorayaki. The sweetness of the bean paste was just right, and the skin was moist and well-made. I wish there was a bit more bean paste though. The madeleine had a weak butter flavor and a slightly dry texture, which wasn't to my liking. The pie manju had a pie crust with bean paste inside, the crust was not crispy but moist, and the bean paste seemed to be the same as the dorayaki. I regret not getting the castella, even if it would have been a bit cumbersome to carry. Thank you for the meal.

This is from Rumoi. I got it at a specialty shop in front of Rumoi Station. I will continue to procure it for snacks at work. It's a snack from a shop called "Non Non" in Rumoi. It's called "A Beautiful Sunset in Rumoi" developed by students in the Information Business Department at Rumoi Senbo High School. It costs 144 yen including tax. The sunset in Rumoi is beautiful because it sets in the Sea of Japan. Rumoi's sunset at Ogon Misaki is selected as one of Japan's top 100 sunsets. I really want to stay overnight and relax, but it's just a passing through... It's fluffy, moist, and delicious! It's like a cake. Thank you for the meal.

I like things that have a handmade feel, especially when it comes to sweets. I found such sweets at Michi-no-Eki Bouyou Nakayama. It's made by the students of Rumoi High School Information Business Department, under the name Nonnon-san. They use rice flour made from local Rumoi rice to make a chiffon cake that is 100% rice flour. I may have never tried a chiffon cake made from rice flour before. It was moist and fluffy. It's nice to see the local community supporting the efforts of high school students who are working hard. I recently tried a similar bread in Hakodate as well. It's fun to see these kinds of things popping up in various towns.
