It's lunch at Marudai, a soba restaurant located at the far end of the Yachigashira area in the western district. The place has a great sense of romance, with a history dating back to the Taisho era. Despite being close to Yachigashira Onsen and Hakodate Hachimangu Shrine, I had never consciously noticed this soba restaurant before. I'm sorry about that. It seems that they grind all their soba flour with a millstone. You can choose between a blend of 7:3 and hand-cut 2:8, which includes even the shell of the soba grain. They also offer a 100% soba option for a limited time. As for the name of the restaurant, is it Marudai? I have poor eyesight, so I mistakenly called it "Dripping Large" instead. It's a tricky but unforgettable name. It seems like a popular place. I ordered the curry soba, which was surprisingly spicy and delicious, with lots of onions and tender chicken. As everyone says, the staff, both men and women, have excellent manners. I think they have received good education. Thank you for the meal.

It's July 2023. This is a different review from the previous one, on a different day at Tanihato. I happened to visit Tanihato Onsen on a day close to this, so I ended up posting reviews of Tanihato's restaurants consecutively. Just in case you were thinking, "Did ChappyTsum have consecutive meals?" I want to assure you with a photo as evidence that this visit was on a different day. Here is a photo of a different visit to the Omichinpo Shrine on a different day. So, this time it's "Mitsuru." After taking a bath at Tanihato Onsen, I visited this restaurant to have some soba. I arrived a few minutes past the opening time of 11:30 AM and there were already two groups of customers. More customers continued to arrive. It seems to be a popular place with the lively, friendly, and smiling staff and the clean interior. Now, how about the soba? To find out, I ordered the July-August limited "Nameko Oroshi Soba." I'm weak to the word "limited," but I'm even weaker to "Nameko Oroshi" (laughs). I upgraded to hand-milled soba for an additional 160 yen. The Nameko Oroshi Soba costs 880 yen, plus 160 yen for hand-milled soba. The soba is very flavorful. I thought it might have a rough texture because the shells are ground as well, but it was actually smooth and easy to eat. This is delicious soba! I finished it all with the flavorful broth and Nameko Oroshi. Soba after a bath is the best! I should have had some sake since I came by train (laughs).

At the foot of Mount Hakodate, among many soba restaurants closed on Sundays, it was nice to find one that was open. Upon entering, there was a wait for one group. "Please write your name here and wait," they said. Then, a single customer said, "Oh, long time no see!" The service was bright and welcoming, making even solo diners feel at ease. I was originally interested in the curry soba, but ended up choosing the "Gomoku Hiyashi Soba" and was drawn to it. Served in a slightly smaller bowl, the noodles seemed like they might spill over. The broth was already mixed in, light and slightly sweet, with a good balance of flavors. I wish it came in a larger portion. The generous toppings, especially the sweetly simmered shiitake mushrooms, were to my liking. As I ate, they brought out soba-yu (hot soba water), which was delicious and comforting. It was past 2 o'clock, and I heard them announce that they had run out of rice and hand-cut soba. As someone who doesn't eat a lot, the portion was satisfying for me. It was delicious. Thank you for the meal.

I visited after taking a bath at Tanihotou Onsen. It was quite crowded with locals. I ordered: - Ground buckwheat tempura soba for 1590 yen - Nakayoshi set for 1430 yen The Nakayoshi set includes soba, mini tempura bowl, salad, miso soup, and pickles. The mini tempura bowl has 2 shrimp tempura and crab stick tempura. The soba is white and similar to Sara soba, with a good texture and aroma. The tempura soba set is hand-made with ground buckwheat, which is rustic soba. It has a good texture and delicious aroma. The soba broth at the end was also delicious. Thank you for the meal!

The soba restaurant located past the Tani Head tram stop seems quite popular, but it was my first visit. The customer service was pleasant and lively, with a steady stream of customers coming in. I tried the parent and child soba for 930 yen, and it was delicious with just the right broth. The default machine-made soba prices felt a bit high, but with many repeat customers, it was clear that the restaurant is quite popular.

I ordered the large katsudon, which I had recently and found delicious! The katsu in the katsudon was thick and incredibly tasty. I think it's the most delicious katsudon in Hakodate! Please try it out! ☺️

The limited summer-season Soba noodles at this place are delicious. While some places may serve bland Soba noodles, here you can really taste the rich flavor of the noodles. The warm greetings and service from the staff are also wonderful. Established in 1922, this long-standing restaurant's secret to success lies in its delicious food and the warmth of the staff.

You can choose from two types of soba: regular soba and hand-made soba. I heard that there are more types of soba depending on the season, but I wasn't sure. I ordered a set of tempura rice bowl and hand-made soba. The soba itself has a strong flavor! As it's getting hotter, the cold soba was very delicious. The parking lot was crowded, and I had to wait for cars to leave.

I had hand-cut walnut soba noodles, which were perfect for dipping in the rich sauce. The soba noodles had a good texture, similar to those from Ueda or Togakushi in Nagano Prefecture. The tempura and soba broth were also delicious. The only thing I would suggest is to have some salt for the tempura and to improve the presentation of the soba noodles.

Today, on my way to Togashira Onsen, I saw a soba restaurant that caught my eye, so I decided to go in. I ordered the hand-cut soba noodles. The presentation was exquisite and visually appealing. The dipping sauce was on the spicier side, more like the Kanto style. Well, if I were in Hakodate, I think I prefer Nagazuki's soba noodles...

The soba noodles are delicious. I visited this restaurant even before it was renovated, and have been going there for years. I recently went back after a long time, and tried their machine-made soba noodles. The texture and flavor of the soba noodles were excellent, and I felt like they may have even improved. The dipping sauce was not too strong or sweet, allowing the flavor of the soba noodles to shine. The wasabi, shichimi pepper, and green onions were a perfect complement. I also tried their curry soba noodles, which had a mild spice level and were perfect for the winter season. Many customers were ordering curry soba noodles or curry udon as well.
