Wandering new curry mania, a solo middle-aged man. This is a memorandum-like review from the old man. If you are looking for "concise information" about the restaurant or food, please move on to other people's reviews. Our company's measures against Corona have various constraints, with different decisions for each department. Due to the nature of our work, it is necessary to come to the office, so remote work twice a month or taking paid leave is required. Although we don't have a culture of using seals, there are various circumstances. Therefore, I am using up my accumulated paid leave by sharing work with my boss and colleagues. On a day off, I enjoyed the refreshing early summer atmosphere. The sun was strong but the humidity was low, making it pleasant. The greenery was becoming lush, and the shade of the trees was soothing. This is my favorite time of the year with all the characteristics of Hokkaido. On this lucky day off, I decided to visit a place that is only open on weekdays. The Polytechnic Center Hokkaido... I had always wondered what this facility near my home was doing. It didn't seem like a factory for processing chemical products. I had never bothered to search for it... Until I came across reviews of the cafeteria in this facility and learned that it is a "vocational training school" operated by an independent administrative agency. It is abbreviated as "Polytechnic" and is a form of higher education that focuses on practical vocational training. According to the reviews, the cafeteria gets crowded all at once when the chime rings at 11:40 after the morning classes. I visited the place with that timing in mind. As I entered the building through the main entrance, I proceeded to the right and continued past the courtyard on the left to find the cafeteria (labeled as a restaurant). I found out that sometimes they have a buffet style, but on this day, it was the regular menu. I couldn't find any advance notice of the buffet style, so I wondered if I could confirm it by phone. As I looked at the menu and the ticket vending machine, people who had finished their classes started gathering. I already knew what I wanted. It was just a matter of waiting for my companion to decide. Fried rice for 390 yen! Mega-sized fried rice for 430 yen! Polytechnic lunch for 400 yen! Set meals around 500 yen... I let others go ahead to avoid inconveniencing the people who were gathering, and finally bought my meal ticket. [Old Man] - Mega Zantare Set Meal for 550 yen including tax [Companion] - Pork Cutlet Curry for 540 yen including tax Before lining up at the serving area, I disinfected my hands. The serving area is divided into rice dishes and noodle dishes, a common layout in school cafeterias and government office canteens. The kitchen was manned by three staff members (an additional one for the noodle dishes), and they worked quite efficiently. The person in front of me ordered a regular Zantare set meal. Oh, the size of one piece is quite big... about 5-6 pieces on one plate. While checking out this presentation, it was my turn. Oh my! I was mentally prepared for the "Mega Zantare," but... one piece was the size of a toddler's fist and filled the entire plate! There was only a small amount of shredded cabbage as a garnish. The "Mega Zantare Set Meal" was also a specialty at the Kita-ku Ward Office cafeteria, although I have never been there. I wonder if it is run by the same management company. I was asked, "How would you like your rice?" which means you can order a large portion of rice on the spot (without buying a large portion ticket). However, I'll have the regular size, please. I chose a vacant seat and carried my tray. Each table was equipped with relatively tall acrylic partitions for splash prevention. There were signs posted here and there saying "Quiet Eating," but people were chatting at a moderate volume as they sat around the table with their friends. The tall acrylic partitions made it difficult for voices to carry, so it seemed. The seating capacity is... around 100 seats including counter seats and table seats. But on this day, only about half of them were filled. Now, let's check out the taste of the Zantare!
