I decided to have a hearty dinner and visited "Tonden" in Iwamizawa for the first time. When I go to Tonden in Sapporo, I usually have to wait for about 30 minutes, so I was prepared for that. However, our food arrived in about 15 minutes. My partner had the sashimi and tempura set (1,380 yen) with miso soup upgraded to clam miso soup (additional 200 yen). The sashimi was fresh and the tempura had a crispy coating. In Sapporo, the tempura tends to be soggy, but this was authentic. The ingredients like shrimp, pumpkin, and mixed vegetables were ordinary but delicious. The rice portion was small, but my partner, who claimed not to be very hungry, finished it all. The pickled vegetables were cabbage pickles, I believe. As for me, I'm on a mini diet, so I opted for the low-calorie special set (1,380 yen). I chose the warm vegetable salad and upgraded the miso soup to sardine ball clear soup (additional 200 yen). The set included five-grain porridge, three small side dishes (smoked duck, mini sashimi, pickled vegetables), and miso soup, totaling 445 kcal. If I had chosen the salmon and scallop salad, it would have been only 376 kcal. Really? It was quite a generous portion. The warm vegetable salad was not mini but a medium-sized plate. It consisted of lettuce, okra, various beans, pumpkin, and was very satisfying. The recommended fresh scallop menu was sold out, so I decided to try the live scallop sashimi (580 yen). The live scallops were sweet and the texture was firm. Each scallop came with fresh radish and carrot garnish, along with parsley. The seating arrangement was comfortable and spacious, but the continuous crying of a baby nearby was a bit distracting. Perhaps it's something to expect in a family restaurant. The staff were friendly and the place was clean, but the noise was the only downside.
