Kakusushi is located in Hanakawa, Ishikari City, with Himalayan nearby and Horumon King Hanakawa shop run by the owner's son next door. I made a reservation over the phone and finally arrived. The friendly head chef is easy to talk to and initiates conversation. The sushi set menu includes options like "Goku" for 2200 yen, "Wa" for 1900 yen, "Takumi" for 1600 yen, "Homare" for 1300 yen, "Miyabi" for 1100 yen, and "Enishi" for 900 yen. There is also a menu featuring tuna. I chose "Takumi" to avoid flying fish roe. Before the sushi, two dishes were served: Mackerel simmered in miso and Bacon with daikon radish. These were not typical items in a lunch sushi set, but would make good drinking snacks. The miso soup was flavorful and included surf clam strings, which was a nice touch. The sushi consisted of 9 pieces, including flounder, medium fatty tuna, yellowtail, sweet shrimp, scallop, salmon, and sea urchin. The medium fatty tuna had a noticeable aged flavor, adding depth to the taste. However, the sea urchin was a disappointment, with a strong and difficult taste to swallow. The chef mentioned having trained in Tokyo and Osaka, and running the restaurant for about 40 years. Lunch is by reservation only, and about half of the counter seats were available when I visited.
