I visited Sushi Matsuyoshi, a restaurant I've been curious about since I was a child. Since it's a sushi restaurant, I ordered a raw chirashi bowl. It seems that in Hokkaido, they call seafood dishes like "sashimi" or "chirashi" as "raw sushi." I enjoyed the taste of this long-established restaurant at a reasonable price.

This sushi restaurant offers a variety of lunch set meals, all of which are generous in portion size. On this day, I ordered the pork chop set meal from the handwritten menu. The pork was large and juicy, and tasted delicious with the sauce. As expected from a sushi restaurant, it also came with sashimi. It was a satisfying and tasty meal.

Today, I visited the sushi restaurant Matsuyoshi. I recently found out that they have a menu other than sushi during lunchtime. The atmosphere inside the restaurant feels like a traditional sushi place, but during lunchtime, the enticing smell of fried food fills the air. Just like with soba restaurants, you can never go wrong with a sushi restaurant, so today I ordered the chicken cutlet set meal. I was seated at the counter and when I saw the sushi toppings in front of me, I started craving sushi as well. My chicken cutlet set meal arrived not long after I ordered! Huh? I was expecting a flat chicken cutlet like tonkatsu, but what appeared was a chicken cutlet shaped like zangi (deep-fried chicken). And to my surprise, there were 6 decent-sized pieces of chicken... The menu picture did indeed show a zangi-like shape, but I didn't expect it to be this much of a hearty meal. To top it off, it even came with octopus sashimi. The side salad was not just cabbage, but also a generous portion of potato salad, making it a meal with more volume than I imagined. As for the chicken cutlet itself, while the texture when chewing was like a cutlet, the juicy thigh meat made it almost taste like zangi from the moment I started chewing. The good thing about chicken cutlets is that they are low in fat, but with this much juiciness, it was a bit disappointing as it didn't meet my expectation of a classic chicken cutlet.

I went there around noon today, around 11:30. The place is located on the right side just before turning right towards the old Route 5 on Yamanote Street towards Otaru. It's close to my parents' house in Sapporo and I've known about it since I was a child. However, strangely enough, this was my first time visiting. Today being a holiday, they were serving lunch service properly at noon. This was actually one of the reasons for choosing this place. I thought if we went early, it might not be crowded... and if it's not crowded, it wouldn't be too crowded either. As a result, as planned, there were no other customers on the 1st floor. On the 2nd floor, there seemed to be some sort of gathering or event going on... (probably a memorial service or something like that...) We had actually just held a private 27th memorial service for my father with family members before coming here. We each chose something from the lunch menu and I also ordered an extra serving of nigiri sushi just in case we weren't full. It was 780 yen including tax. I had the raw chirashi with extra servings. The extra servings were complimentary and cost 780 yen including tax. The others also chose raw chirashi and nigiri sushi. One person chose the pork bowl with extra servings, which cost 890 yen including tax. After about 10 minutes, the dishes were almost ready at the same time. As expected, the 780 yen sushi and chirashi... in terms of appearance, the toppings were average and not very luxurious. Well, that can't be helped. As for the pork bowl, the sauce was quite thick and dark, but when I tried a piece, it was delicious! In terms of appearance and taste, the pork bowl seemed to be the best. The menu using fish seemed to be affected by the soaring prices of fish. Maybe they're too focused on the price... I thought. The extra servings had a pretty big satisfying portion, my stomach was somewhat full... I ate a few pieces of the extra nigiri, and left the restaurant feeling quite full.

Hello, today I am in Sapporo's Nishi Ward. For lunch, I happened to come across a sign and decided to visit "Sushi no Matsuyoshi" in Sapporo's Nishi Ward. This sushi restaurant has been loved by locals since it was established in 1980. Surprisingly, their sushi lunch set is only 760 yen (with free extra serving). It seems like a well-known sushi restaurant that has been featured on local TV. #Matsuyoshi #STV #DosankoWide

Located a 14-minute walk from Subway Miyanozawa Station in Nishino residential area, this restaurant exudes a traditional Japanese atmosphere. The exterior reflects the history of the shop, while the interior offers counter seats, table seats, and a raised seating area. Despite showing signs of aging, the place was well-maintained and clean. I visited for lunch on a Saturday, arriving slightly before noon to find only two other customers. It was nice to see newspapers and sports papers available for reading. I ordered the nigiri sushi set for 760 yen. The sushi rice had a gentle vinegar flavor, and the sushi pieces were large and traditional. Overall, it was a reasonably priced and satisfying meal.

After finishing my errands in Nishino, I decided to have a late lunch at this place nearby that I had planned to go to! I saw it on a TV show before, the lunch prices are reasonable, and they have tatami seating! Having lunch with a baby is tough without tatami seating... We arrived close to the end of lunchtime, but there were a few regular customers here and two more groups came in after us, so that was reassuring. I really wanted to eat sushi, so I ordered the nigiri lunch set, and my partner ordered the extra-large sashimi bowl. The relatively young chef behind the counter was working alone. It seemed like the lady who seemed like the owner was taking care of things around the restaurant. The nigiri and sashimi bowl were priced between 790 and 900 yen. There were also other reasonably priced standard set meals on the menu. The taste was decent! My partner said the same about the sashimi. I wanted to eat sushi in a tatami seating area with parking available, so I was satisfied with that aspect of the restaurant. I would like to try their set meals next time.

I happened to come in this direction, so I decided to stop by. When I arrived around 11:30, it was empty, but by lunchtime it was packed with customers. I ordered the Zangi set meal for 760 yen. Hmm, the Zangi is big! Juicy! The seasoning is strong! It's great! This is definitely Zangi. Ten years ago, the sashimi portion was a bit larger (sometimes there were two types), and it was 700 yen, but it has gone up by 60 yen. With the increase in consumption tax and the improvement in the economy, maybe inflation is happening? (I don't really feel it though). The miso soup is still the same, with a strong bonito flavor, hasn't changed. With these five large Zangi pieces included, this price seems fair, right?

I visited for lunch and had the mixed fry set meal. It includes 5 pieces of fried food, sashimi, salad, pickles, rice, and miso soup for 780 yen. The taste is not incredibly delicious but it is still good. The portion size and price make it a high cost-performance meal.

One weekend, I went to a sushi restaurant in Nishi-Nino, Nishi-ku, which I had bookmarked. The place was an old and reasonably priced sushi restaurant with a spacious parking lot, although it was a bit confusing to figure out where to park. The interior was traditional with a counter, tables, and a raised tatami area, and it seemed like there was a second floor as well. The background music was a daytime TV show. I decided to order the "Japanese set meal" with fish, which turned out to be half a fish instead of a whole one. I regretted not choosing something with more volume, like the fried dish the lady next to me was having. The meal also included simmered mountain vegetables, a pouch filled with fish paste, miso soup with bean sprouts and tofu, pickles, and rice. If I ever come back, I will definitely order the fried dish! Thank you for the meal.

For nearly 4 years, Tabelog has been on a break and has undergone various system changes. The way reviews are done now is quite different from before, with many unclear points. In July 2018, when it's hot and your appetite starts to wane, somehow sushi always manages to pique your interest. "Sushi no Matsuyoshi" is a local sushi restaurant. Located in the Nishino area of the Nishi ward, it offers a peaceful contrast to the hustle and bustle of the city center in Chuo ward. It's been 6 years since I last visited this traditional sushi restaurant for lunch, where they also serve hot pot, tempura, eel, and other dishes. The lunch menu includes cafeteria-style options like fried chicken set meals. There are no family restaurants nearby, making it a popular spot for families. On my recent visit, I noticed that the lunch menu had changed quite a bit. The lunch eel dish was no longer available. When we arrived around 1:30 PM, all the private rooms, tables, and counter seats were full. After a short wait, we managed to get a table. We both ordered the "Lunch Sushi Set." While waiting, we were served cold barley tea. After about 30 minutes, our two "Lunch Sushi Sets" arrived. The set included 7 pieces of nigiri sushi (tuna, squid, salmon, white fish, tamago), a gunkan of tobiko, and 4 pieces of rolled sushi. It also came with miso soup made with elegant white miso, mixed with egg, vegetables, and mushrooms. Priced at 760 yen (tax included), the sushi had a decent flavor, although the rice portion was slightly more than usual. It was a satisfying meal for the two of us. The miso soup, which was unexpectedly delicious, added to the overall experience. While the ingredients may not be high-end, the taste was fulfilling. Personally, I love these local sushi restaurants. They have been serving the community for years, and their taste is always reliable. It's a comforting feeling to dine at such a place. After enjoying this sushi, I may not feel like going to a conveyor belt sushi restaurant anytime soon. Perhaps next time, I'll try the "Lunch Chirashi." It was a delicious meal, thank you.

Sapporo, Nishi Ward, Nishimachi. Walking west on Yamate Street, there is a sushi-focused restaurant at the end on the left side. The name of the restaurant is "Sushi no Matsuyoshi" and it has a large parking lot next to it. The exterior of the restaurant has the words "Engagement, Memorial Service" written in calligraphy on the roof. There are lanterns next to the windows that say "Sushi," "Tempura," "Eel," "Hot Pot," and "Appetizers." The sign also mentions "Banquets, Gatherings for up to 130 people, please inquire." It has a nostalgic Showa era vibe! It's like a catering service, a sushi restaurant, or a traditional Japanese cuisine place... I was always curious about what kind of place it really is when passing by. Near the entrance, there is a sign that says "Lunch Menu Sushi 680 yen" and there are various affordable lunch sets available. I decided to visit for lunch. Inside the restaurant, there is a counter and a waiting area. The counter has 7 seats, and there are many table seats as well as a raised tatami area. There is also a second floor where banquets can be held. Looking at what the regular customers were eating, it seemed like many were enjoying rice bowls. I wanted to try the 680 yen sushi lunch to see what it was like. Unfortunately, the lunch sushi is only available on weekdays. So, I ordered the Tempura Donburi instead. It came in a square bento box with miso soup and pickles. The tempura consisted of large shrimp, squid, bell pepper, sweet potato, eggplant, and more, all with a crispy coating. The rice was perfectly cooked and delicious. The sweet and savory sauce was just the right amount, and it was a hit. The sushi sets ranged from 1080 yen to 2920 yen, with the Tsukasa set being 1080 yen for 8 pieces of nigiri and one roll. It included sweet shrimp, mackerel, salmon, flying fish roe, white fish, mackerel, squid, octopus, and kanpyo roll.

We accept Buddhist memorial services, engagement ceremonies, and various banquets... This traditional catering shop with a large floor and private rooms is also a sushi restaurant, offering a nostalgic style. The interior may be old, but it is well-organized and has a relaxed atmosphere. The friendly and cheerful service by the older lady creates a pleasant ambiance. The lunchtime offers great value set menus, which are highly recommended. I wanted to test their sushi skills this time, so I chose a set menu. The "Nigiri Sushi Set" for 1080 yen offers a Showa-era style of sushi. The rice is slightly firm and the vinegar flavor is subtle. The quality of the toppings is decent, not bad, but considering the price, the performance is just average. However, my companion's Chirashi bowl showcased the skill and deliciousness unique to this catering shop, making it a great value for money. Overall, I highly recommend choosing from the lunch menu when dining at this restaurant.

This is a neighborhood sushi restaurant located in a residential area in the western part of Sapporo. In addition to sushi, they also offer set meals, eel, tempura, and a wide variety of dishes for banquets. The restaurant has a spacious parking lot, making it easy for people to gather. The "Lunch Nigiri Sushi" is priced at 680 yen. The rice is lightly seasoned, the fish pieces are slightly larger, and overall it is good value for the price. It's interesting to see how they manage to offer such quality within this price range, and it's nice to see my favorite inari sushi included. The rolled sushi seems to be similar to Nara-zushi. The meal comes with a warm miso soup. The service was pleasant and the atmosphere was comfortable. Thank you for the meal.

I entered the restaurant a little after 2 pm for a late lunch. Even though lunch hours were until 2 pm, the staff kindly allowed me to order from the lunch menu. The interior of the restaurant was not very tidy, but it had a somewhat clean atmosphere. The prices had increased after the tax hike, but they still had affordable lunch options like chirashi sushi. I tried the chirashi sushi, and the vinegared rice was quite tasty. The sea urchin was salted, which I didn't mind as it complemented the rice well. The other toppings were average in freshness. They have a variety of lunch options, so I would like to visit again when I come back to this area.

In October 2012, I visited Sushi Matsuyoshi for the first time. I had noticed it while passing by the front of the store. I visited during lunchtime as usual. I parked my car in the spacious parking lot next to the store, located on Yamate Street in Nishi Ward, Sapporo. For the exact location, please check on Tabelog. It was a weekday and I arrived just before 1:30 PM. The restaurant had a typical local sushi shop vibe. Inside, there were four sunken tables for four people each, two four-person tables, and a counter with about eight seats. There might be rooms on the second floor as well. There was one customer before me and two customers after me. Looking at the lunch menu, the sushi was reasonably priced at 630 yen for nigiri sushi. I was torn between options but ended up ordering the "Unadon" lunch set, while my usual companion chose the "Lunch Nama Chirashi." The "Lunch Nama Chirashi" arrived after a 6-minute wait, followed by the "Lunch Unadon" 12 minutes later. The "Lunch Nama Chirashi" included uni, sweet and creamy tamago, ikura, salmon, scallop, squid, red tuna, surf clam, tobiko, and tamagoyaki, served with miso soup with ingredients like onion and fried tofu. The miso soup had a nice flavor with a good dashi base. All of this was priced at 735 yen, which was quite reasonable considering the uni and ikura included. The "Lunch Unadon" featured eel from China, which was not too fatty and had a fluffy texture. The flavor was decent and different from supermarket eel dishes. The sauce was slightly salty, and the rice, generously coated with sauce, was very appetizing. The set also included pickles and pickled mustard greens, all for 1575 yen, which was a reasonable price for eel. The restaurant is run by a family and has a cozy, homey atmosphere. It's a local sushi shop that works hard to offer affordable prices. I look forward to trying the 630 yen nigiri sushi for lunch next time. Despite the low prices, I have high expectations. The meal was delicious, thank you.

The parking lot was spacious so I decided to go in. Although there was a sign for a bento shop, the interior was actually a sushi restaurant. There was a counter and the prices for nigiri were displayed on the wall. Upon closer inspection, the name of the restaurant also includes "sushi." The lunch menu was extensive and everything was affordable. The chirashi sushi was only 735 yen, a great deal. It had tuna, squid, sea urchin, salmon, scallop, and surf clam. Generally, this would be called a seafood bowl. The salmon seemed a bit frozen, but considering the price and portion size, I was quite satisfied. Miso soup was also included. The grilled fish set, chicken cutlet set, and zangi set all had generous portions. I particularly liked the zangi. The sushi set was also reasonably priced. Perhaps because it was summer, they gave out watermelon as a service each time I visited. Smoking was allowed and there were both sunken kotatsu seating and regular tables. While the food wasn't amazing, being able to enjoy a cold tea on a hot day, with the option to smoke, and leaving with a full stomach and no complaints about the taste or service, I will definitely be going back.
