Before posting this, I was a little surprised to find out that there are actually three Zeroku shops! The one I visited was the Honmachi branch. This visit was actually the main reason for my Osaka trip, as it was a collaboration between WOsaka and Nyannyan Koto Kojima Haruna's Herlipto, with the "HerliptoCAFE" event being held at MIXup. Starting my day early, I had brunch at HerliptoCAFE and then walked over to Zeroku from WOsaka. Located in Midosuji Honmachi at the "Senba Center Building," I was surprised to find the iconic ice monaka that I had seen in books and photos so many times! I ordered a coffee set, and the retro yet elegant lace sheet underneath the ice monaka seemed to match the ambiance of Zeroku perfectly. The ice monaka, available for purchase online, has a history dating back to the post-war era when Zeroku started as a cafe due to sugar shortages. The ice monaka, available in flavors like vanilla, matcha, cocoa, strawberry, and red bean, has been loved by customers for three generations. The staff at Zeroku were warm and welcoming, and I was allowed to take photos inside the cozy cafe. Despite it being a weekday, the place was bustling with regulars and takeout customers. I would love to visit again and perhaps get a Zeroku sign for my home. The name "Zeroku" comes from a saying in Osaka during the late Edo period, reflecting the free-spirited and merit-based nature of the city's merchants. Overall, it was a wonderful experience, and Zeroku has become one of my favorite cafes that I definitely want to visit again.

I visited a shop with a retro atmosphere to purchase ice cream mochi. It was Saturday around 11:35 am and there were 6 people in line, but I was able to buy it quickly. I purchased an Ice Mochi (120 yen) and ate it at a nearby park. Inside the crispy white mochi, there was a refreshing and nostalgic milky vanilla ice cream. I haven't had this kind of ice cream in a while, so it was a delicious treat. Thank you for the meal!

I visited on Saturday at noon. They are closed on Sundays and only open every other Saturday, making it difficult for those who can only go on their days off. I wanted to have coffee as well, but it seems they close at 2 PM. However, the monaka I came for was very delicious.

Ice monaka for 120 yen. For takeout, they open a small window for service. A new sensation of refreshing and invigorating vanilla ice cream! It has a refreshing taste similar to Calpis, making it very refreshing! You can eat it quickly. The atmosphere of the shop was great and had a nice taste.

I stopped by for a takeout snack on a regular day. I had tried it a few years ago and suddenly had a craving for it, so I decided to buy it since I was nearby. When I mentioned that I would be home in less than 30 minutes, they neatly wrapped it in several layers of newspaper. When I got home and opened it, it hadn't melted at all! It was still cold and fresh. The traditional ice cream wrapped in a thin monaka shell had a refreshing sherbet-like texture and was very delicious.

A coffee shop located about a 3-minute walk from Sakaisuji-Honmachi Station on the Osaka subway. This shop has a long history, being established 110 years ago, and has branches in various locations in Osaka. It was rated 3.69 at the time of the review and was listed among the top 100 shops. Their specialty is Monaka ice cream in addition to coffee. Surprisingly, a cup of coffee is only 300 yen, and an ice Monaka is 240 yen. If you get a set, it's 420 yen. This might be the cheapest among the top 100 shops. Nowadays, you can't find a good coffee shop where you can enjoy a blend for 540 yen. The retro atmosphere of the shop is evident in the photos. The regular customers are mostly elderly, chatting with the staff. It's a unique space. The coffee is delicious, with a gentle flavor that balances acidity and bitterness well. The ice Monaka is more like a lacto ice cream, light and tasty. I was completely captivated by the atmosphere and the sense of tradition. It's a bit far from my home, but I would love to visit again someday.

This is a cafe in Honmachi. I went there because their ice cream monaka is famous. Compared to store-bought ice cream monaka, it was refreshing and the monaka shell was moist and delicious. It's amazing how the line for ice cream monaka is longer than the line for the cafe...

It's so hot lately, isn't it? It can be unbearable. Fortunately, I work indoors, so I can spend time in an air-conditioned room. I'm truly grateful for that. Sometimes I go out, even though I don't usually go out much, and I end up with extra time on my hands. I have to find ways to pass the time, like adjusting my schedule at a cafe. This time, I visited a cafe called Zeroku, a retro-style place near Honmachi. I had never heard of this place before, but it seems to be quite popular. Their famous item is the ice cream sandwich. When I visited, the takeout was very popular and there were constantly customers coming in. It's a small cafe, but the ice cream sandwich was light and not too sweet, very delicious. The coffee was just the right strength and paired well with the ice cream. On a scorching hot day, cold ice cream is a must. I highly recommend trying their refreshing ice cream sandwich. If you have the chance, please give it a try!

Located in front of Sakaisuji Hommachi Station, there is a quaint old wooden building café called "Zee Roku." There are a total of three stores in Osaka Prefecture, including this Hommachi store, which were taken over by the founder's sons. Established in 1913, this café initially started with traditional Japanese sweets and later began producing ice cream in the early Showa period. The name "Zee Roku" is derived from the phrase "zei roku," meaning "there are six unnecessary things for merchants: stipend, connections, influence, education, sword, and social status." The Hommachi store serves only "vanilla" flavor, while other stores may offer variations like "matcha," "cocoa," "strawberry," and "red bean." The retro interior of the café gives off a nostalgic vibe, with an active black telephone adding to the ambiance. The Monaka ice cream, priced at 120 yen, features a crispy thin rice cake shell filled with a light and refreshing ice cream that melts in your mouth like sherbet. The ice cream is made fresh every morning, ensuring a perfect balance of creaminess for the hot summer days. Whether for coffee or on its own, the delightful vanilla ice cream is a must-try. Thank you for the delicious treat!

After finishing my lunch and feeling a bit hot, I was walking when I saw a retro ice cream sign. There were a few people lined up in front of the ice cream shop. I wanted to take a little break, so I decided to order an ice coffee and ice monaka set for takeout. The shop was quite busy with customers coming in for ice cream takeout. The ice coffee and ice monaka set was surprisingly cheap at 440 yen! The coffee was sweet and very soothing. The shop had good air conditioning, so the heat was gone in no time. Thank you for the meal.

A famous cafe with 110 years of history known for its ice monaka. The name of the shop, "Ze Rokku," is said to represent the six principles of business. The place was empty at 1 pm on a weekday, but quickly filled up. I ordered a coffee and ice monaka set for 420 yen. The ice monaka was like a refreshing sorbet, perfect for the hot summer, paired with a delicious bitter coffee. It was so good that more and more people started ordering it. Just be aware that it doesn't last long for takeout without dry ice. Thank you for the meal.

Located about a 3-minute walk from Sakaisuji-Honmachi Station, this longstanding coffee shop was established in 1913, making it over 110 years old. Their menu consists of only one item, an ice cream monaka for 120 yen each. They also offer coffee for those dining in. There's nothing particularly special about it, but just thinking about its history makes it delicious.

During a break in my errands in Honcho, I decided to have a coffee break at this cafe that had caught my eye with its striking exterior. I ordered an iced coffee, which was surprisingly cheap. Although I didn't order it, it seemed that their specialty was the ice cream sandwich, as many customers were ordering it for takeout. The iced coffee came with syrup by default, which I wasn't aware of as I prefer black coffee. The coffee itself was delicious. Thank you for the meal.

The shop has a nostalgic atmosphere as if it slipped back in time to the Showa era (perhaps the mid-period?). The set of iced coffee and iced monaka is 440 yen. The ice in the ice monaka is more like ice cream than ice cream, with a refreshing acidity. It is scooped and sandwiched after the order is taken, so the skin is crispy. The iced coffee itself does not have a strong characteristic flavor, but it is served ice-cold in a copper tumbler, which is delightful in the hot summer. It's a great deal for 440 yen for this set. I hope this shop continues to stay as it is forever.

The traditional tea shop's monaka ice cream is the best! [Order] Coffee + Ice Monaka Set 440 yen The retro atmosphere inside the shop made me feel like I had returned to the countryside! The sherbet-like ice cream has a nostalgic taste (^ ^) It was popular among both young and elderly customers. You can also take it out for 120 yen each. I was surprised by the popularity of people buying a large amount for takeout because it's hot. It's no wonder this shop has won the Top 100 on Tabelog. I highly recommend it to those who want to eat nostalgic ice cream.

A friend told me about this place and we visited together. This old-established coffee shop, in business for over 110 years, has been selected as one of the top 100 restaurants on Tabelog in 2021 and 2022. Despite passing by the shop many times, I never noticed its existence. They only serve one item, the Ice Monaka, and it's quite cheap at 240 yen for two. You can either take out or eat in, and this time we chose to eat in. The shop is very small, almost like a house. There are three box seats, each one cramped. However, the atmosphere is very homey. I ordered the Coffee or Tea + Ice Monaka set for 440 yen. Isn't that incredibly cheap? The Ice Monaka had a nostalgic taste, with the shop's name "Zeroku" written on it. Inside the Monaka, there was vanilla ice cream. It wasn't too rich, more like a sherbet, with a refreshing taste. It was perfect for the hot summer weather. It was really delicious. They also offer takeout, so I definitely want to go back!

The seating capacity in the store is about 4 seats, and it is small, but many customers use it for takeout. The ice cream monaka seems to be handmade and has a taste similar to ice cream. They put the ice cream in the dough after receiving the order, so it is not soggy and easy to eat. The coffee is a bargain at 300 yen per cup.

I am in Osaka. I came to Sakaisuji-Honmachi and passed the time waiting for Ichiran to open. They have a constant flow of takeout orders. The ice cream is a traditional refreshing vanilla flavor. The atmosphere of the shop is nice and I recommend it, but there are only three tables.

The second cafe we visited in Osaka has been in business for over 100 years. They only serve coffee, tea, and ice cream sandwiches. The atmosphere is very nostalgic. We entered through the curtain and found no other customers. I ordered a coffee (400 yen) and an ice cream sandwich (120 yen). The ice cream sandwich was a white octagon shape with vanilla ice cream inside, which had a slightly tangy flavor, almost like yogurt. The black coffee was enjoyable, with a nice balance of hot and cold, bitter and sweet. The owner mentioned that they roast their own coffee beans to a dark roast, but the coffee was light and not heavy at all. Apparently, the tradition of drinking strong coffee with lots of milk and sugar in Osaka is a thing of the past. After cooling off for a while, we headed towards Kyoto.

I visited a shop that had caught my friend's interest for a while. Initially, we enjoyed coffee and tea inside the shop, but I was surprised to see many people buying ice cream monaka for takeout. Some even bought 40 ice cream monakas at once. Seeing that, I decided to order an ice cream monaka as well. It tasted nostalgic. The set of tea and ice cream monaka was surprisingly cheap at 440 yen. Thank you for the meal.

The rainy season is over and summer is finally here. This is Zeroku, located two blocks east of the Higashi Police Station on Honmachi Street. There are three Zeroku shops, but this is the main one. The three sons of the founder each have their own shop. The other two are in Higashi-Osaka and Michi-no-cho, but I've only been to this one. They make your order quickly. The personalized monaka is really good. It's nice to eat while walking. The taste of the lactic acid drink is strong, just like ice cream! The monaka shell is thin and crispy, not getting in the way of the filling, a great supporting role. I got takeout this time because I was walking, but I'd like to sit inside someday and enjoy a cold drink and ice monaka. [Good points this time] They are happy to sell just one item.
