(Recorded on August 13, 2023) Used for dinner in late May 2023 on a weekday. I was planning to return to Haneda in the evening, so I searched for a place near Hakodate Airport where I could quickly have a meal. Upon researching, I discovered that the popular restaurant "Lucky Pierrot," known as a soul food in the Hakodate area, is located less than a 10-minute drive from the airport. Although it is a chain restaurant in the Hakodate area, it is quite well-known and popular, so I decided to give it a try. Where is the restaurant located?
I visited during a stop on my way back to Hakodate Airport from the city center. With navigation, you can easily find your way without getting lost. If coming from the city, head northwest on Prefectural Route 83 (Trapistin Line), and you will see a large sign with "Lucky Pierrot" in front of the restaurant. There is a parking lot in front of the store, and although the actual store is located further back, the prominent sign makes it easy to find even for first-time visitors.
How crowded was it, and what was the atmosphere like inside?
I visited just before 6 pm on a weekday, so it was not too crowded. The interior of the restaurant is filled with an old American-style atmosphere, with a capacity of around 50 seats including booth seating. While there were only about three groups dining in, there seemed to be quite a few takeout orders placed over the phone, with a wait time of about 20 minutes for orders to be ready. Depending on the timing of your visit, even if there are few people dining in, if there are many phone orders for takeout, it may take some time for your order to be prepared, so it is advisable to allow some extra time.
What are the recommended menu items?
Although the restaurant is famous for its hamburgers, the menu also includes various Japanese fast food items such as rice bowls, curry, and yakisoba. With such a wide variety of menu items, it's easy to get distracted even if you initially came for the burgers. This time, I decided to focus solely on the burgers and ordered the most simple and popular menu item, the "Lucky Egg Burger (539 yen)."
In conclusion:
Lucky Pierrot is a well-known spot in Hakodate, almost on par with Hasegawa Store, as a soul food destination. Based on the high number of phone orders for takeout, the term soul food truly fits. During my visit just before 6:30 pm on a weekday, the restaurant was not crowded at all, yet I had to wait about 15 minutes for my order due to the high volume of phone orders. The combination of a moist bun, hand-kneaded hamburger patty, and rich tomato sauce offers a homemade flavor that is sure to please. With a burger priced at just about a coin, it's a very convenient place to enjoy a local burger, whether dining in the old American-style interior or taking it out for a picnic at a nearby tourist spot.
