I found out about a delicious shop that sells yomogi mochi, so I decided to stop by. It's located near Kamikawa Station. As soon as I entered the shop, I saw their recommended item, "Yomogi no Sato," priced at 170 yen each (tax included). They also had bread, chiffon cakes, and meringue cookies, but I decided to buy a few pieces of "Yomogi no Sato." I tried one immediately. The mochi was a bit firm, made with mochi rice from Kamikawa. It had a generous amount of yomogi, and the red bean paste inside had whole beans, giving it a not-too-sweet, addictive flavor. It reminded me of when my mother used to bring yomogi home and make yomogi mochi for us. The package indicated that it should be consumed by the end of the day, and it also included instructions for freezing and thawing. I would definitely buy it again.

From the afternoon of 2022.12, I skipped work and visited the third installment of the Kamikawa Series, "Himeya Seipan Kashikobo". Actually, for this Kamikawa Series, I parked my car at a free parking lot near Kamikawa Station and walked around to visit each store. I could have had more fun if I had taken the JR train like in "Rokkaku Seijo's Drinking Iron Line - Japan Travel", but oh well~ (^_^; Due to buying "Pippurin", I had to travel by car. By the way, "Pippurin" is a little over 1 km from Ranru Station on the Soya Main Line, so it is possible to visit on foot, but transferring between the Soya Main Line and the Sekihoku Main Line is so difficult that even the late author Kyoichiro Nishimura would be surprised, so it's better to avoid it unless you have plenty of time. The store also sells potato chips and has a nostalgic Showa-era shop feel. "Yomogi no Sato" is priced at 160 yen (tax included). It is touted as a famous confection from the heavy snow region, but I had never heard of it before (^_^; It's a very yomogi-filled daifuku. It's quite rare to have a daifuku that is so "yomogi" to this extent. It's incredibly delicious!! The red bean paste inside is also good. Oh, the taste that makes you want to eat it regularly~. If you haven't tried it yet, I highly recommend picking one up and giving it a try♪

I was intrigued by the review of "Yomogi no Sato" by the Hot Hot Alien and decided to check out the store. I visited the store while driving from Enbetsu to Asahikawa. It was around 11:35 on a holiday. The store is located in a residential area in the northeastern part of Asahikawa City. It is a two-story building with the first floor serving as the store. The yellow walls of the building were quite noticeable. You can see inside the store through the glass door at the entrance. It seems like there is no dedicated parking lot. The inside of the store was quiet and somewhat lonely. There were various traditional Japanese sweets and pastries displayed on shelves and in the showcase at the back. The selection was a bit limited. The lady (possibly the owner) who assisted me was friendly and pleasant. Unfortunately, the freshly made "Yomogi no Sato" was already sold out for the day. However, they had frozen "Yomogi no Sato" available, so I bought four of them for 160 yen each (tax included). According to the lady, they can be thawed at room temperature in about three hours. I tried them around 4 p.m. on the same day, and they were completely thawed. The "Yomogi no Sato" comes individually wrapped in a transparent plastic bag. It is like a yomogi daifuku, a flat bun covered in plenty of starch (potato starch). The mochi skin is thin and has a deep bluish-green color. It has a chewy and soft texture, with some fibers from the yomogi noticeable. The flavor of yomogi is intense and vivid. The filling is a coarse red bean paste, which is slightly chunky and has a subtle saltiness with a hint of azuki bean flavor. The balance between the mochi skin and the filling is excellent. I couldn't resist and ate two of them in one go. I really enjoyed the strong yomogi flavor in "Yomogi no Sato". I am grateful to the Hot Hot Alien for providing the information! I would love to try the freshly made ones next time.

This is the second installment of the mochi series... I feel like I'm being dragged along and moving on one after another... It's like a tour of the Kamikawa area! My main goal is actually the sake though... There are a lot of fans here too. I've received gifts from here many times. This shop is called "Yomogi no Sato". They don't have the products displayed at the storefront, they bring them from a different place. It seems to be a popular item. I wonder how many they prepare in a day? They keep bringing them out. In the end, we all bought a bunch. I love yomogi mochi, but out of all the ones I've tried, this one is by far the richest! I usually don't like strong flavors, but I love strong yomogi flavor. Delicious!

I received a yomogi mochi. The powder is a bit heavy. The mochi has incredible elasticity, maybe the best I've ever had! It has quite a chewy texture. The anko is coarse and slightly salty, but with a subtle sweetness that is just right.

It's really popular, "Yomogi no Sato". You should try it today. I tried it early. Until now, yomogi mochi only had a little bit of yomogi inside. This yomogi mochi is probably the most solid one I've had. You can feel the fibers. The red bean paste is also good. It says you can freeze it, but it's better to eat it today. Oh, but it might be nice to have it crispy and fragrant. Be sure not to eat it in the car, it will probably get all powdery.

I headed towards Asahikawa, but the expressway was closed, so I had to take the back roads. I ended up getting lost on the back roads and stumbled upon a shop called "Yomogi no Sato" with cakes and bread displayed in the window. I went in and bought two bread rolls as my granddaughter was not with me. The lady at the shop was very kind and I paid with a 10,000 yen bill, which turned out to be a mistake. The phone rang, and I was distracted, so I quickly pocketed the change, causing the call to be cut off. I felt sorry for the lady. Later, I realized that the shop was actually quite expensive. The bread rolls were tasty with a strong yomogi (mugwort) flavor and a good amount of fiber. The red bean paste was delicious as well. I finally noticed the high prices when paying at a ramen shop in Asahikawa. It was a lesson learned to always double-check before making a purchase.

I occasionally visit this place. I always come here aiming for the freshly made Yomogi mochi, but it seems like there are fans just like at Umezuki in Abashiri, as the staff mentioned that they sell out if you come late. By the way, they do sell frozen Yomogi mochi. I often come on Sundays, so when I drop by on a whim, the shop is closed. This has happened a few times where I couldn't buy it. According to the staff, they said to make a reservation. The mochi part of this Yomogi mochi tastes like it's made from eating grass, which is very popular with the older generation. They say that old-fashioned grass mochi was all like this... The An (sweet red bean paste) is on the sweeter side. People who love it might give it a rating of five stars (laughs). 2015/0315 Update.

Himeya Bakery in Kamikawa Town offers a variety of bread, cakes, and mugwort rice cakes. Although I originally came for their famous mugwort rice cakes, they were unfortunately sold out. Instead, I purchased some delicious looking bread displayed at the shop. Despite all being priced around 100 yen, the breads were surprisingly large in size. Being located in a residential area with few other shops around, I believe this bakery is a valuable find. Recommended!

Now, I visited the popular confectionery shop in Kamikawa Town, "Himeya Seipan Kashipoya". The shop is located about a 3-minute drive from Kamikawa Station, and although it's not in a prominent location, the sign is easy to spot, making it easy for first-time visitors to find. The shop mainly offers popular items such as "Yomogi Daifuku" and sweet bread. I purchased a Yomogi Daifuku (140 yen each) and found the balance between the red bean paste and the skin to be good, making it easy to eat. However, the mochi was slightly hard, and I felt it would be better if it were a bit softer. The service was pleasant, and I would like to visit again when I get hungry during a drive.
