I visited the morning market in Hakodate for the first time in several years. Although I had already enjoyed a satisfying breakfast at the hotel, I couldn't resist trying the famous crab bun that was featured in the guidebook. It turns out they only sell crab buns here! Crab bun or cod roe bun... which one should I choose? I couldn't eat both, so after much deliberation, I went with the crab bun. It had more crab meat than I expected, with a hint of sweetness, and left a lasting impression. Thank you for the delicious meal.

Today, I visited the Kaneni Fujita Suisan Asaichi direct sales store. Taste → ☆☆☆☆ Service → ☆☆☆ Atmosphere → ☆☆☆ Cost performance → ☆☆☆ Drink → ☆☆☆ I visited here during the GoTo Hokkaido campaign a while ago. I wandered around Hakodate Market and found the "kanimannaru" that I saw in the guidebook. I bought the kanimann. The crab meat is firmly packed inside the filling. You can also taste a hint of miso, so it's good for crab lovers. I think it's especially delicious during the cold winter season. Thank you for the meal.

From the central exit of JR Hakodate Station, walk towards Hakodate Market along Kaikou Street and you will find a shop about 100 meters down the road. This shop specializes in seafood ingredients, with their standout item being the "Crab Buns" sold at the storefront. On this visit, I purchased these "Crab Buns" to take home. The options available at the time were the classic "Crab Bun," as well as "Taraba Bun" and "Crab and Potato Bun," all filled generously with a flavorful paste that exudes a satisfying crab aroma. While these buns are best enjoyed fresh, as they can become tough and crack when cooled, they also offer frozen options for takeaway, eliminating this concern.

The New Year's assorted set includes crab, shrimp, salmon roe, scallops, pickled herring, and herring roe, among other items. Each item was delicious. It had a luxurious feel suitable for the New Year, and considering the price and contents, it was relatively reasonable. I recommend it.

I visited a crab shop at Hakodate Morning Market. I had a craving for trying their crab buns, as it seems locals don't eat them much. The crab bun costs 450 yen, but it was worth it as it was packed with crab meat and had a subtle crab miso flavor. It was delicious.

On the fourth day of the Hokkaido tour, I started with a stroll through Hakodate Morning Market. Before going on the trip to Hokkaido, I read in a travel magazine that the crab buns here are delicious, so I looked for a shop and bought a "Crab Bun for 450 yen". It was piping hot, so I waited for it to cool down a bit before eating it. The warm crab bun had a rich crab flavor and was delicious.

After having breakfast, I strolled through the morning market and headed straight to my next destination. I bought a laughing crab bun for 450 yen. It's bigger than a regular meat bun! The dough is moist and it's filled with plenty of crab. The flavor of the crab is amazing! It also has crab miso inside, giving it a rich and luxurious taste. Eating this crab bun on a cold morning made it even more delicious.

The New Year's Omakase A set includes ikura, hairy crab, Matsumae pickles, kazunoko, scallops, and button shrimp. Each item is delicious and has a good portion size, making it perfect for the New Year. The seasoned ikura was especially tasty.

While strolling through Hakodate Morning Market, I stumbled upon this shop called Kani Man. They were selling something that I couldn't find anywhere else. I decided to buy one and it turned out to be the best crab I've ever tasted!!! The seasoning was also delicious!! It wasn't too fibrous and you could really taste the crab in every bite. I was pleasantly surprised. There are many delicious things to try at Hakodate Morning Market, so I highly recommend visiting. The parking situation can be a bit of a struggle, but it's within walking distance from Hakodate Station so definitely check it out!

I visited the morning market direct sales store of Kaneni Fujita Suisan in Hakodate City in April 2017. The store is located in Hakodate Morning Market.
I purchased a crab bun (350 yen) which is currently priced at 450 yen. It was served piping hot. The filling of the crab bun includes snow crab meat, onions, and bamboo shoots. It was slightly smaller compared to a typical Chinese bun. The filling had a strong crab flavor, but overall, it tasted ordinary. The bun was a bit hard, which was not to my liking.
Next time I visit the morning market, I feel hesitant to purchase the crab bun again due to the increased price. For those visiting Hakodate Morning Market for the first time and who love crab, this is one of the easily accessible crab products in the market, so it might be worth a try. Thank you for the meal.

I didn't have time to eat crab on the last day, so I tried Taraba Man (steamed bun filled with king crab) instead. It cost 630 yen and was full of king crab. It had a buttery flavor.

I feel like the goodness of the crab is not being fully utilized here. It's a popular place featured in the media, so there are always long lines.

Unlike meat buns, crab meat doesn't really go well with the filling of Chinese buns. Unfortunately.

I visited the Hakodate Morning Market for the first time and decided to stop by this shop that was recommended in the guidebook. Their specialty is a crab-filled Chinese bun, but unfortunately, they were not selling the main crab bun (\410) that day due to a malfunction in the factory. The only options left on the menu were the crab and potato bun (\410), which seemed to have a lower cost, and the higher value Snow crab bun (\600). Although I had some doubts about their sales strategy, I ordered the crab and potato bun. When I tried it, I found that despite its name, it had more potatoes than crab filling, with only hints of crab fibers and seaweed aroma. It did not meet my expectations. Overall, the crab-filled Chinese bun I had at the morning market was not worth the \410 price, and I would hesitate to buy it again.

Walking through the morning market is truly enjoyable. Within the market, there is even a "live squid fishing pond." Next to the square, freshly cracked sea urchins are being sold. I visited in June, right in the sea urchin season. Without hesitation, I decided to try them. The purple sea urchin costs 600 yen each, or 1,000 yen for two. My companion and I each tried one. The flesh is beautifully shaped, with a pale yellow color. When you take a bite, it's a taste of bliss! Compared to the red sea urchin, it's slightly more subtle, but it has an indescribable elegance that fills your mouth. There is no fishy smell, and I was able to fully enjoy the flavor of the sea urchin. Being able to easily taste fresh sea urchin... morning markets are truly delightful.
