Local famous restaurant, I didn't know... I graduated from Shin-Kotoni Elementary School to Shin-Kotoni Junior High School in Sapporo's Kita Ward, so this restaurant is like my second hometown. Apparently, it has been in business for 10 years, but embarrassingly, I didn't know about its existence... Looking at the menu, being a first-time visitor, I chose the chicken, which seemed quite conventional. Oh, you can add pickles separately from the spiciness. A topping perfect for me (a pickle lover). I started with 5 pieces, but that might be a bit too much? Haha
Chicken Leg 1200 yen
Spiciness level 6
5 Pickles (+100 yen)
Rice M (200g)
[Soup]
The soup with basil floating on top, slightly yellowish with strong aroma, is very fragrant. The 5 pickles do a great job, adding a delicious accent to the soup. Since they are chopped, they blend well with the soup. As a pickle lover, I was delighted by the soup. (However, 5 pieces might have been a bit too much for me, as the pickles ended up overpowering all the flavors and my taste buds became numb, only tasting pickles towards the end. Haha)
The soup has a good balance of chicken bone and vegetable umami, a light tomato acidity, and a hint of Japanese dashi. It's complex but well-balanced and quite delicious. (Towards the end, the hidden tonkotsu flavor and umami come through.)
[Vegetables]
Finely chopped shiitake mushrooms, which blend well with the rich soup and taste delicious. It's the first time I've enjoyed shiitake mushrooms this much!
Broccoli: deep-fried, absorbing the soup well and tasty
Carrot: thinly sliced, deep-fried
Lotus root: deep-fried, fragrant and tasty
Pumpkin: deep-fried
Potato: fluffy and tasty
Shiitake mushrooms: finely chopped and added to the soup. Impressive!
Boiled egg
[Chicken]
Perfect tenderness, firm texture, no flavor loss, no odor. Surprisingly large with a satisfying bite. After being gently stewed, it seems to be lightly fried or roasted? Very fragrant and pleasant taste.
[Rice]
Slightly soft rice with a refreshing texture. During lunchtime, a salad is served as a complimentary side.
[Coffee]
+220 yen. I'm not a fan of espresso, but the coffee here is not too strong, complementing the aftertaste of curry with a delightful flavor. It was delicious.
This place has been open for 10 years? I didn't know... A bit of a shock. Haha The braised pork also looked very delicious, and I definitely want to try the roux curry next time. A revisit seems inevitable. Thank you for the meal!
