This evening's drinking party was planned to attend the "Abashiri Bar" event, but my reaction didn't seem favorable, so my wife suggested, "Shall we go to Bihoro for drinks?" via LINE. The first candidate she suggested was "Shun no Aji Miharu," located in the bustling area of Bihoro. The name of the restaurant is "Miharu," so it's a bit subtle, right? If it were "Oharu," I wouldn't go, but if it's "Miharu," I thought, "Maybe it's okay!" I made a reservation. When I arrived, they didn't ask for a name, but the staff recognized me from the phone call. We were seated at the counter. I told them to surprise me with the menu. We started with a toast of beer. The first dish was "Simmered Conger Eel," which was unexpectedly sweet at first but delicious as you continued eating. They served clams from Nemuro, which were huge and packed with meat. I've had clams from Akkeshi before, so I wasn't too surprised by the size. I ended up giving most of them to my wife, who happily ate them. The dish "Winter Melon" had an elegant taste. It wasn't particularly delicious, but it was rare around here. The sashimi platter included whale meat, which they had caught recently in Abashiri. Abashiri usually catches minke whales, but this year they caught local whales through research whaling. The whale meat was a bit disappointing in texture and taste. After the meal, a fisherman gave us whale bacon, which was delicious. The next dish was fried "Menme" chicken, which was double-fried and very tasty. We also had scallop and tuna belly sushi, which were delicious. The meal ended with a cute squid rice dish and clam soup. The sake was served cold, and we lost count of how many cups we had. The bill came out to be around 16,000 yen, which felt a bit expensive considering the lack of a menu. The atmosphere with four other customers was enjoyable, even though the stories were not true.
