In September 2022, after checking into the hotel, taking a bath, and resting, I strolled around the town of Abashiri. I've been here a few times before, but this time I noticed there is a supermarket. I went in with great interest and found some interesting items. I had brought a cooler bag, so I bought some items that needed refrigeration. I remembered hearing about the connection between Abashiri Chanpon and Unzen in Nagasaki over ten years ago, and I was curious to try it. When I got back home, I made Abashiri Chanpon by stir-frying vegetables, pork, and noodles, and it turned out quite delicious. It wasn't just the supermarket's 100 yen items that were tasty, but I felt like going back there again. Thank you for the meal!

When searching for restaurants in Abashiri that I haven't visited on Tabelog, there are quite a few, probably in the double digits. However, many of these restaurants have already closed down, making it difficult to confirm their closure. It's easy to prove that a restaurant existed, but it's hard to prove the absence of something. One restaurant that actually exists is registered by a man from Sapporo, and I appreciate his effort in keeping the information updated. The restaurant is located in a once prosperous shopping street called 4th Avenue, which has now become deserted. Despite the decline, the area is working towards revitalization. The restaurant is located towards the west side of the street and offers not only bento boxes but also coffee beans. I initially came to buy coffee beans but only had a 10,000 yen bill, which I felt was too much for just buying beans. I ended up buying an avocado for 100 yen, as I didn't want to be told again that I bought an expensive one. The avocado turned out to be just average, but at least I didn't overpay this time. I also bought some items a la carte, including chicken skin karaage and beef croquette. The karaage was overly salty, and I couldn't really taste the chicken skin. The beef croquette didn't taste like beef at all, leaving me puzzled about its flavor. Overall, the experience was mediocre. The cashier at the restaurant seemed unfriendly, but I managed to finish both items I ordered. The avocado I bought turned out to be a good salad ingredient, and I even had a second serving a few days later when it was perfectly ripe. I don't usually eat salad, but this avocado was delicious.

I visited a supermarket called "Super 100" while exploring a shopping street in Abashiri. Despite its name resembling a 100-yen shop, it actually sells fresh food and miscellaneous goods, with a pharmacy at the back. I bought a "Menchi Katsu" for 110 yen and a "Cooked Bread (Frankfurter)" for 140 yen (excluding tax). The Menchi Katsu was large and slightly oily, but still tender and tasty. The Cooked Bread had a sweet ketchup sauce on top of a sliced frankfurter, but the texture of the frankfurter was not very good. The prices were reasonable overall, and the selection of prepared foods was decent. The fresh food was of good quality for everyday use, although the seafood selection was a bit limited. It was a bit inconvenient that they didn't sell alcohol. Overall, it was a satisfying meal.
