Inside the Shin Minato Market in Otaru City. According to Tabelog, it opens at 9:00, but actually opens at 10:00, and even opened 2 minutes late. There are counter seats and tables for 4 people inside. Purchase a meal ticket at the ticket machine at the entrance. I ordered the pork bowl (750 yen). The meat was tough and the sauce was thin. Shredded cabbage on top of the rice. The toughness of the meat is fatal, and I think the sauce needs to be thicker and more evenly distributed. The miso soup was average in richness with a strong dashi flavor, and refills were free. I heard some complaints from customers eating seafood bowls around me. Unfortunately, there was nothing good about it. Thank you for the meal.

I finally tried a restaurant that I had been curious about. I arrived a little after 12 o'clock, and there was only one other group of customers inside. I bought a set meal of shrimp fry and oyster fry from the ticket machine, and the staff quickly came to pick it up and showed me to my seat. I sat at the counter wondering if the place would get crowded later on. You have to serve yourself water and tea, and also clear your own tray after finishing your meal. The food arrived shortly after, but I hesitated for a moment. It felt a bit lonely. I tried taking some photos, but it still felt lonely. The shrimp fry had just the right amount of batter, and I thought it was more honest than making it look bigger with too much batter. The oyster fry was also good, but maybe my expectations were too high. As I was eating, more and more customers started coming in, and there seemed to be some regulars among them.

I finished my errands at the hospital and city hall in the morning and decided to have lunch before returning to work. I went to Sato Shokudo for the first time. It was a weekday morning but there were quite a few customers. I ordered the shrimp tempura rice bowl from the ticket machine (850 yen). After a short wait, the tempura rice bowl arrived with three slim shrimp, mini-sized sweet potato tempura, and pumpkin tempura. Considering the price, the content was quite disappointing. If it was around 500 yen, I wouldn't have any complaints. However, the taste was not bad (though not particularly good either). The amount of rice was also small, but the balance with the tempura was good. Thank you for the meal.

"I was imagining that I would like to have soba noodles for lunch," but when it actually came time for lunch, there was no time to leisurely think about it, and I ended up having lunch at "Shin Minato Market." With limited options, I visited "Otaru Sato Shokudo" inside the market. It was around noon and the restaurant was about 80% full. After having my temperature checked and disinfecting my hands with alcohol, I faced the ticket vending machine. I wanted to try the fresh seafood, but it seemed a bit over my budget, so after some hesitation, I chose the "Nigiri Sushi (premium) for 1,300 yen." I handed the ticket to the lady and sat at the counter seat. The kitchen was a one-man show, and it was enjoyable to watch the efficient and skillful cooking. After a 10-minute wait, the sushi was placed in front of me. The tray included 9 pieces of nigiri sushi, miso soup, disposable wet towel, chopsticks, and a soy sauce dish. The nigiri sushi consisted of tuna, shrimp, squid, salmon, flying fish roe, salmon roe, sea bream, and scallop, with vinegared rice, mild wasabi, and firm rice. The shrimp and squid were particularly good. The light-flavored miso soup was delicious. In terms of value for a lunch sushi, it was just average. It seemed like many local regulars were having set meals, which seemed like a wise choice. From what I observed, the tempura seemed to be a popular and good choice. Overall, it was a satisfying meal."

I revisited Market Meshi to eat after a long time. This cafeteria specializes in seafood, offering a variety of dishes including sushi, sashimi, curry, and tempura. When I visited, they were having a Chutoro (medium fatty tuna) festival, so I ordered a Chutoro tuna bowl. The Chutoro was rich and delicious. Next time, I think I'll try the sashimi set meal...

Sometimes, I have day trips for work. Today, it was Otaru. It's a 1.5-hour drive from Iwamizawa. Finished work in the morning. As I was leaving, someone suggested, "How about some seafood?" I agreed. So, we went to the Shinminato Market! This is the only place where you can eat. I looked at the menu and decided to try the "Chirashi Sushi" (I think it was 1200 yen?). Huh? It's a bit (quite) different from the photo, isn't it? I didn't think about anything else. It's just like the saying, "False advertising..." Even if it's aimed at tourists... ρ(・・、) That's how it goes (tears).

On Sunday, most markets are closed, but we heard that Shin Minato Market is open, so we decided to check it out. We wanted to try a seafood bowl, so I ordered the Botan shrimp, sea urchin, and salmon roe bowl for 2,500 yen, while my friend ordered the medium fatty tuna, sea urchin, and salmon roe bowl for 2,700 yen. The bowls were a bit smaller than expected, but considering the price, it seemed fair. The Botan shrimp was firm and delicious, with a tasty miso flavor. The freshness was top-notch. The sea urchin was okay, maybe because it wasn't the peak season. The salmon roe was tasty but a bit lacking in quantity. My friend's medium fatty tuna wasn't as expected, but considering the price, it was understandable. Overall, it's a good place to enjoy the market atmosphere!

Good day, everyone. After a one-night sea urchin tour in Shakotan, I woke up with the worst hangover of the Reiwa era and couldn't eat breakfast. However, by lunchtime, I was feeling better and suddenly felt extremely hungry. Whenever I return from Shakotan, I always stop by Shinminato Market to buy miso-flavored squid salted fish as a tradition. Oh, I remember there was a dining area in the back there... Let's quickly go to Sato Shokudo in Otaru. I was feeling so hungry that I started feeling unwell instead. I ordered the Joten Donburi for 1000 yen, and my friend (who had already eaten breakfast) ordered the sashimi set meal for 950 yen from the ticket machine. It was Sunday lunchtime, but surprisingly it wasn't crowded. I had a bad feeling about this. I sat at the empty counter and was served with a thickly battered tempura-like dish. This is more like a fritter with a crispy coating like a snack. It wasn't the tempura bowl I was expecting. Oh no, looking at my friend's meager sashimi set meal on the left, that's just not right. The plate was mostly empty with just a little shrimp, squid, and tuna in the middle. Unfortunately, I made a mistake and didn't take a photo. I regret not being able to eat breakfast in Shakotan even more now. Lesson learned: be careful when expecting a market dining experience in a port town. Thank you for the meal.

JR Minami-Otaru Station is about a 10-minute walk away. It is located right near Wing Bay Otaru. There used to be the Yujiro Ishihara Memorial Hall nearby, but it has closed down, leaving one less landmark. The New Otaru Market is quite spacious. Inside, I went to Otaru Sato Shokudo. They sell food tickets here. I ordered the "Medium Fatty Tuna, Salmon, Sea Urchin, and Salmon Roe Bowl," which is one of the more expensive items on the menu with photos at the entrance. I sat at an empty table and handed over my food ticket. Looking around, there were 7 counter seats, 3 four-person table seats, and one irregular 3-person table seat. It arrived in less than 10 minutes. It looked colorful. The ingredients were Medium Fatty Tuna, Salmon, Sea Urchin, and Salmon Roe as stated in the name. The Medium Fatty Tuna and Salmon had a melt-in-your-mouth texture. It was even better with a little soy sauce. There was quite a bit of Salmon Roe, which provided a fun popping texture. The Sea Urchin had a great flavor, and I was satisfied. The soup was Salmon broth, which I found to be slightly on the salty side. The "Medium Fatty Tuna, Salmon, Sea Urchin, and Salmon Roe Bowl" costs 2,600 yen including tax. They don't have a drink menu, but you can bring your own.٩( ᐛ )و

Small paper towels look big lol Did I order the wrong thing... oh wait, this can't be right. Ebi tendon/sashimi set The shrimp tempura in the ebi tendon is small, which is understandable since it's amaebi tempura, but the sashimi slices are disappointingly small as well. The ebi tendon is quite small, but considering the set, the pricing for the smaller portions should be appropriate, I think... The sashimi includes squid, amaebi, tuna, and salmon. The amaebi looks huge lol Is this really okay... This sashimi is a joke, they're underestimating the tourists. Personally, I'm not satisfied with this set meal. The squid, tuna, and salmon seemed to disappear midway through tasting them, leaving a micro world that I didn't find enjoyable. Rather, it felt sad. On the day I was writing this review, I had a buri (yellowtail) set meal at Tanabe Chabo Bettei, and I couldn't help but compare the never-ending mountain of buri sashimi with the micro amount of sashimi here. By the way, Tanabe Chabo doesn't allow reviews, so I only write about it in my personal diary. The rice had a firm texture, almost like barley rice, with a chewy and fluffy texture, and the shrimp tempura stood out deliciously in contrast. Thanks to the small set meal, I was able to go for a second lunch. However, with this set meal, I can't participate in the Chutoro Festival with fresh bluefin tuna... Overall 2.0 Taste 2.0 Service 2.0 Atmosphere 2.0 Value for money 2.0 Drinks - Address 8-11 Tsukisaki, Otaru, Hokkaido, 1st floor of Shin Minami Otaru Market Sato Shokudo ☆☆☆ Next Episode Preview ☆☆☆ Should I seek revenge with fresh sushi? If I do, it seems like it'll be a while from now...

Shrimp tempura rice bowl and sashimi set for 1070 yen. Not a lot of volume, but that's actually good. The sashimi is of good quality, especially the crispy squid. The shrimp tempura in the rice bowl is a bit thin, but tasty.

The service and atmosphere are good, with temperature checks for COVID-19 measures. I ordered the assorted tempura bowl, which had one shrimp, a small white fish, and various vegetables with a pre-made sweet and savory sauce. You can watch the chefs prepare the food from the counter near the entrance. The tempura sauce was a bit thin, and the self-serve tea was weak. Maybe ordering fresh seafood would have been a better choice.

On the second day of my trip to Hokkaido, I took the Yufutsu Liner from Marukoma Onsen Ryokan to Sapporo Station (reservation required, 500 yen per person). Due to a significant low-pressure system affecting Hokkaido early in the morning of the 25th, I visited the Shinminato Market in Otaru. After finishing my shopping, I dined at the restaurant located within the market. I purchased a meal ticket from the vending machine and then took a seat. This time, I chose the sashimi set meal. It included botan shrimp, salmon roe, and fatty tuna, all of which were quite high-quality and delicious. Since I wanted to try Sapporo ramen later in the evening, I only ate half of the rice. Fish dishes served in Hokkaido are generally delicious everywhere.

We had planned a two-night, three-day trip to Hokkaido, but our plans were thrown off track by heavy rain and my husband breaking his phone shortly after arriving. Instead of heading to Yoichi for lunch and then visiting Kamui Misaki on the first day as originally planned, we ended up going to Sapporo to a Docomo shop in the morning due to the heavy rain. When we reached Otaru, the rain suddenly stopped, although it looked like it could start again at any moment. We decided to have lunch at a market in Otaru, a place we could enjoy even if it rained. The market was on the first floor of a two-story building, and although we had imagined being able to buy various items and some rice to eat there, it turned out that wasn't the case. The market was bustling, but it was mainly for takeout or shipping. There was only one restaurant inside. My husband didn't like sea urchin or salmon roe, so he ordered a tempura and sashimi set meal. I ordered a salmon, salmon roe, and sea urchin rice bowl. The prices were reasonable, but the quality was just average. The food was not bad, but it didn't leave a strong impression either. We may have had high expectations for the food in Hokkaido, but we found that many meals were just okay, not particularly delicious. However, our experience with the sweets in Otaru later on during the trip was a different story - we were absolutely thrilled with them!

I came to Shinminato Market to buy ingredients for a seafood barbecue. Since I was short on time, I decided to have a quick lunch inside the market. The name of the restaurant has changed, but the menu seems to be the same. I wanted something refreshing, so I ordered the salted lemon sushi. It came with miso soup, but it only had a small piece of salmon and very little other ingredients. It was a complimentary dish, so I didn't complain. The sushi rice was small and easy to eat. My friend ordered the seafood fry, which was supposed to be a complimentary dish today, but it looked very different from the photo and she was quite upset about it. Other customers were also saying the same thing, so it seems to be a common issue. Thank you for the meal.
