**Review**
Opened in July, "Taiwan Typhoon Restaurant" is an authentic Taiwanese cuisine spot in Nakano. It was my first visit, and the place was buzzing with the lively atmosphere of a Taiwanese night market, serving delicious dishes that are all generously portioned!
▶ **Chicky Chicky Ji-Pai** - This dish is an adapted version of the classic Taiwanese street food, Ji-Pai (fried chicken), featuring crispy batter and juicy chicken that pair perfectly. The aroma of spices really whets the appetite, making every bite a taste of Taiwan!
▶ **Typhoon Braised Egg Potato Salad** - A hearty potato salad topped with a rich braised egg. The sweet and savory flavor of the egg complements the creamy potato salad wonderfully, creating a satisfying dish.
▶ **Char Siu Egg** - This is a delightful side dish featuring a runny fried egg and fragrant char siu (bbq pork). It's so tasty it makes you crave rice, and it pairs perfectly with drinks!
Among the drinks, the refreshing Taiwanese Beer enhances the rich flavors of the dishes, while the sweet and sour Pineapple Beer is perfect for a finishing touch. You can really enjoy the Taiwanese vibe here.
Despite being a new establishment, "Taiwan Typhoon Restaurant" offers authentic Taiwanese dishes at reasonable prices and is a must-visit spot in Nakano. I look forward to trying more Taiwanese street food dishes next time! Thank you for the meal!

I wanted to go there, so I did, but... hmm, it’s probably just a place that looks good for photos. There were few food options, and I just ordered some snacks! The glassware was cute, but I think I only need to go there once. The music was way too loud; it really hurt my ears. By the way, the cover charge is 300 yen!

The dishes are made of plastic, giving it a cheap, cafeteria-like feel. Lunch costs 1000 yen, and you can have unlimited soup and rice. The food is quite hearty and has a strong flavor, which makes it suitable as a side for rice. It might be good for students or anyone who wants to eat a lot of rice.

The interior of the restaurant evokes the feel of an Asian eatery. Since this was already my fourth stop of the day, I ordered a snack, "Thick Menma (¥400)," and a drink. They have a wide variety of beers, allowing you to enjoy flavors from Taiwan, Vietnam, and Thailand, as well as Chinese liquors like Laos wine. The alcohol here is somewhat pricey, but it's a place where you can enjoy a taste of foreign culture. Thank you for the meal!

I arrived right at noon when they opened on a weekday, being the first to take a seat. I really love both "Sonoda" and "Taihu Restaurant" in Osaka and have been there many times, but I was curious about what the Nakano location, which changed from Sonoda to Taihu Restaurant, would be like. I ordered the signature Char Siu Egg Set Meal along with a mini Lu Rou. This is indeed one of the Sonoda's menu items! I was pleased that the rice and soup were refillable. There was a slight dryness to the dish, but dipping it in the sauce made that less noticeable. The flavors were quite rich, which made the rice go down easily, and I was satisfied with the volume for the price. I’d like to try other menu items next time.

I thought Stand Sonoda had closed, but then I found out the affiliated brand, Typhoon Hanten, had opened. Some parts of the interior still resemble Sonoda, and I think I've seen some of the staff before... Just like Sonoda, it seems to be popular in Osaka. However, I find the prices inside are listed without tax, which is a bit of an issue. It feels like I paid extra tax for the beer... The ginger pork set meal costs 1,000 yen, which seems pricey compared to the ginger pork and crab croquette set at Shokudo Takahiro Nakano branch. Well, if you’re looking for a set lunch in Nakano, I recommend Shokudo Takahiro Nakano branch and Teshio Gohan Gen Nakano branch. Thank you for the meal.

The "Taifū Hanten Nakano" has been renovated from the "Tāshū Shokudō Stand Sonoda Nakano." Personally, I preferred the previous establishment's Izakaya-style, which made me hesitant to visit the new one. However, I stumbled upon an eye-catching notice: to celebrate the opening, Shumai (steamed dumplings) were priced at just 10 yen each (see the third photo). I simply had to check it out! Planning to enjoy a bottle of Akaboshi beer (tax included: 858 yen), I wondered how many Shumai I should order. Each person can order up to 10, so I was tempted to go for the maximum. After all, even 10 of them would only cost 100 yen.
But then a thought crossed my mind. If the Shumai here are the same size as those from "Kiyoken," I could easily finish 10. However, if they're the large ones like those from "Iseya Sohonten" in Kichijoji, I might struggle to eat that many. Searching for clues in the regular menu, I saw that Shumai was priced at 275 yen for one piece, which suggested that they might not be on the smaller side. So, I decided to play it safe and ordered just 5.
About 20 minutes later, a plate of Shumai with a diameter of about 3 cm was placed in front of me, and they were slightly larger than I expected. I felt relieved that I hadn’t ordered more. The Shumai had a fluffy texture, and I couldn’t find any onions or bamboo shoots, nor green peas. It’s possible that some grated vegetable was mixed into the pork filling, but I couldn’t identify it. In conclusion, they were genuinely tasty Shumai. The price of 10 yen each clearly shows that they are making a significant loss as part of this special offer.
If you don’t order any other dishes, I think you could easily eat 10 by yourself, so I recommend making the most of this deal. However, as I mentioned earlier, the Shumai didn’t have any diverse textures inside; they were uniformly mixed with the same flavor. Additionally, there were no flavor-altering items like vinegar on the table. What I’m trying to say is that ordering 10 Shumai would be a great deal and would be manageable to eat. However, you would definitely end up getting bored.

Introducing gourmet spots in Tokyo @onakagram__【Nakano】Restaurant Name: Typhoon Restaurant Nakano ----------------------------------------------------- ~Order Details~ ・Avocado Raw Liver Style ¥500 ・Choppy Choppy Cheepai ¥680 ・Mapo Tofu ¥780 ・Char Siu Eggs ¥780 ・Dan Dan Noodles ¥950 ----------------------------------------------------- A super popular spot!! A new opening of the "Sonoda" series in Nakano!!! The restaurant is called Typhoon Restaurant! It's a hot topic and very popular even in Kansai✨ I was surprised by the variety of Taiwanese beers on the drink menu!! There are flavors like pineapple and mango, which are sweet and likely suitable for those who aren't fond of regular beer. The food menu is also rich and varied, and after much indecision, I ended up ordering the "Char Siu Eggs" that everyone usually gets at Sonoda and the gigantic "Choppy Choppy Cheepai"✨ The Char Siu Eggs were undeniably delicious, and choosing the Char Siu Eggs means you get two sunny-side-up eggs on top ❤︎ They pair fantastically with drinks, and this is definitely something you should order☺️ The Choppy Choppy Cheepai is so large that you have to use scissors to cut it before eating, making it super filling!! Most items on the menu are also pretty generous in portion, so it’s best to go with a good appetite. Be sure to check it out~♡ -----------------------------------------------------♀️ Access: A 5-minute walk from Nakano Station Address: 5-57-7 Nakano, Nakano-ku, Tokyo

A popular Asian tavern from Osaka has opened its first location in Tokyo! You can enjoy Asian cuisine, including palm-sized crispy chicken (Ji Pai) and Taiwanese beer! Here are the details: I visited "Taihoo Hanten" in Nakano, which is about a 6-minute walk from Nakano Station. It's located in a back alley after turning into the drinking district from the north exit. The restaurant just opened in July, so it's still a hidden gem! The original location is in Osaka, and this is the first store in Tokyo. I visited on a weekday and found there was some availability. It might have been less crowded because a strong rainstorm hit just as I was heading to the restaurant.
Here are some of the dishes I ordered:
⚪︎ Mapo Tofu: At first, you taste a hint of sweetness, but then the spiciness kicks in! The sauce is generous and pairs well with rice or drinks.
⚪︎ Street-style Omelet: The omelet is fluffy and slightly runny! It’s made in a way that it’s fried and has a bit more oil. The sweet sauce on top was a nice touch.
⚪︎ Chiki Chiki Ji Pai: A large, palm-sized crispy chicken! You cut it with scissors into pieces for eating. It's juicy and spiced well—delicious!
⚪︎ Drinks: They have a variety of beers, including Taiwanese beer, Leo Beer, and mango beer. They also have sour drinks and tea highballs on their extensive drink menu!
◆ Orders:
- Mapo Tofu: 858 yen
- Chiki Chiki Ji Pai: 748 yen
- Street-style Omelet: 638 yen
- Taiwanese Beer: 728 yen
- And more...
◆ About Me: I explore a variety of restaurants, focusing on izakayas, yakiniku, and sushi! I'm sharing different places on Instagram, so I’d love it if you checked it out! @gurume.kuro

Nearby Nakano Broadway, there is a restaurant called Taifuu Hanten that just opened in July after the closing of the popular eatery, Taishuu Shokudo Sonoda!
I tried their service drink, Lao Jiu (a type of Chinese rice wine), as well as mango beer, Taiwanese beer, chive dumplings, boiled dumplings, and shrimp siu mai. The mango beer releases a wonderful mango aroma as soon as you crack open the can! With an alcohol content of 2.8%, it feels more like juice. They also served me Lao Jiu for free! This was my first time trying it, and it had a taste similar to Shaoxing wine.
The chive dumplings were wrapped in a transparent skin that resembled rice paper, and they were packed full of meat and chives! The flavor infused with ginger was absolutely delicious! The boiled dumplings had plenty of chopped shrimp inside, and their gentle seasoning made them tasty! As for the shrimp siu mai, it was incredibly generous with the shrimp filling, and the shrimp flavor was rich!
I left completely satisfied after my solo lunchtime drinking experience! ✨

The restaurant is a sister establishment of the popular “Stand Sonoda” from the Kansai region. The interior retains a hint of Sonoda while being colorful and resembling a cute overseas street food stall, which definitely boosts the mood. I particularly liked the appetizer served in a Tom and Jerry shot glass filled with rice wine, as well as the Sailor Moon T-shirts adorning the walls!
**Order Menu:**
- Street Food Omelet
- Chikuwa (tube-shaped fish cake) with Cheese Fried in Seaweed
- Garlic Chive Dumplings
- Avocado with a Raw Liver Twist
- Sweet Potato Salad with Braised Egg
- Chiki Chiki Pie
- Taiwanese Beer
- Taiwan Apple Cider
- Pineapple Beer
- Mango Beer
- J&J, etc.
**Crowd Situation:**
I made a reservation for 6 PM on a Friday and arrived a bit early, but they kindly showed me to my seat. By the time I was leaving, the place was packed, so it’s recommended to make a reservation.
**Impressions:**
The street food omelet was fluffy and packed with veggies, almost like it had been fried in lots of oil, topped with a sweet and spicy sauce, likely sweet chili. The fried chikuwa, commonly found with cheese inside, had a hint of an ethnic flavor. The garlic chive dumplings were wrapped in rice paper, giving them a nice chewy texture. The avocado with a raw liver twist consisted of avocado with sesame oil and salted malt.
The sweet potato salad came with a braised egg and had a sweet flavor. It seems delicious to mix everything together, though I ate the egg first and couldn't try that out... The Chiki Chiki Pie was large, and you cut it with scissors to eat. Despite its size, it wasn't too thick, was crispy, and quite tasty, so I cleared it quickly! It reminded me a bit of the texture and thickness of Mos Burger's chicken.
I couldn't eat too much since it was my second stop, but everything had a slight ethnic twist and felt like Asian dishes reimagined for Japanese tastes, which I found delicious. They also recommend dishes like mapo tofu and lu rou fan (braised pork rice), which I'd like to try next time!

The restaurant has recently reopened with a renewed menu that includes more Asian-inspired dishes. While there were still quite a few items from the previous menu, my companion ordered something called "suitosuikaa," which turned out to be a pork dish. We had also ordered a char siu egg, so we ended up with a double pork situation. I really wish they had asked what it was when ordering! (laughs) Plus, we also ordered a street food omelet, so we ended up with an egg overload as well... well, the egg part was my fault! (laughs) Most of the Asian dishes included cilantro either as a topping or mixed into the sauce. Personally, I preferred the previous menu from the old restaurant. I also would have liked counter seating better, and although it said lunch sets were all priced at 1000 yen, some items were actually more expensive than before... (laughs) If I get the chance, I might consider going back, but the taste was good, even though I don't usually eat Asian food that much. It's just not at the top of my list anymore, which is a bit disappointing. Thank you for the meal!

Last November, a restaurant called Taifuu Hanten opened as a new place after the popular Stand Sonoda Nakano. Although renowned reviewers from Nakano Ward, Renzo and Chee-chan, had already visited during the Sonoda days, I had not been able to go due to various circumstances, haha. I asked the blonde female staff for the "three kinds of curry" lunch. While waiting, I had some self-service water, which surprised me as it was at room temperature. Soon, my dish arrived, featuring beef tendon curry, lamb keema curry, and lu rou (braised pork), served with soup, pickles, and dessert. Additionally, a small serving of shredded cabbage topped with one piece of fried chicken and a small bowl of potato salad was included, perhaps a special treat from the staff, haha.
The beef tendon curry was tender and mild in flavor. In contrast, the lamb keema curry was quite spicy and exciting. The dish I was most looking forward to, the lu rou, was sweet and savory, offering a complex taste with a hint of herbal flavors, reminiscent of authentic Taiwanese cuisine. Overall, the meal was delicious and very filling, leaving me a bit uncomfortable after finishing it all. Next time, I plan to visit with a group to enjoy various a la carte items while mainly focusing on drinks!

The decision to close "Sonoda," which had just opened, in order to turn it into "Typhoon Restaurant" is puzzling. While the main lunch option is the char siu egg set meal, and the menu posted on the wall seems quite similar to Sonoda's, there are some disappointments. The self-service water is lukewarm! I don't think so many people are taking medicine. During the hot summer, we desire cold water.
Another issue is with the refills for the soup. The first serving is provided in a bowl with green onions, but the second refill is just the broth without any garnish. The curry is good, but the fried chicken is exceptionally delicious! It seemed that many people were ordering the fried chicken set and the yurinchi chicken set due to their generous portions. The mango pudding for dessert really gives a taste of Taiwanese restaurants. While the fried chicken might not have many Taiwanese elements, as a place that serves delicious fried chicken sets, I would say it's a very satisfying restaurant.

The lunch period was almost over, so my desired char siu egg was sold out. I ended up having the ginger pork set meal, but it was the sweetest ginger pork I've ever had. The ginger flavor was really strong, almost overwhelming, as it was loaded with ginger paste. It was a bit much for me.
