When sightseeing, it's nice to have a drink from noon onwards. Here, you can drink from noon and enjoy fresh squid dishes. They also have various types of shellfish, seafood bowls, soup curry, and pre-made sushi. Many people are eating a variety of foods. The seating is like a food court, so it may not be ideal for lingering.

This is a corner eat-in area in a food sales area for tourists. You buy a meal ticket from the vending machine and place your order, but there is no clear list of what is available, so you end up struggling to choose in front of the machine. It was not crowded when I went, but it would be a big traffic jam if it was busy. I ordered the squid somen set meal. The squid didn't have much transparency, but it was finely chopped and delicious.

In December 2022, I visited Marukatsu Suisan Honoten in the Hakodate Bay area. It is a seafood market with a food court where you can buy food tickets from a vending machine and enjoy fresh seafood dishes. The prices are more affordable than the morning market, and they offer a variety of menu items, including a lunch special until 3 pm. I tried a beer tasting set featuring four types of Hakodate beer for 1200 yen. Unfortunately, the live squid was sold out due to poor fishing conditions. However, I enjoyed a delicious dish of steamed clams and added a crab soup, both of which were flavorful and satisfying. This market is popular among locals, and I had a great dining experience.

I visited for lunch. The interior of the restaurant is quite spacious. I tried various dishes, but the premium fatty tuna was of high quality. However, the sea urchin was a bit pricey for the taste. They also had a variety of side dishes like miso soup and sashimi. Thank you for the meal.

In July 2022, I visited the Hokkaido seafood market Marukatsu Suisan in the Bay Area. I purchased a lunch ticket at the food court vending machine, which offered great deals on a variety of seafood dishes, including seasonal specialties. I couldn't resist ordering the fresh squid, but ended up being captivated by the allure of whole sea urchin. The staff peeled the sea urchin right in front of me, and the purple sea urchin, though not as sweet as those from Shakotan, was still delicious. I also tried four types of Hakodate beer, including the Goryokaku Hoshi Weizen, which had a fruity and soft flavor with fine bubbles and a cloudy appearance. The eco-friendly option of getting a refill in a plastic cup was a nice touch. Overall, it was a satisfying experience where I could enjoy seafood and have a casual drink during the day. When I come to Hakodate, I always visit this restaurant. There are quite a few places in Hakodate where you can eat fresh squid, but if you want to casually enjoy fresh squid, I recommend Ikaikei or the shop inside the Free Market. This place is located in the Bay Area, so it attracts a lot of tourists, but they have a good selection of squid at reasonable prices. You buy a ticket from a vending machine, which automatically places your order, and after a while, your number is called to pick up your food. The squid comes with ginger (from a tube) as a condiment. Although the squid is delicious on its own, it would be even better with fresh ginger. Using my own kombu salt, the flavor was significantly enhanced. Another reason I like this place is that on the morning of my departure from Hakodate, I always stop by to buy live squid (not to eat on the spot) and make my own pickled squid at home. This is something I can only do in Hakodate, so this place is special to me.

I went on a trip to Hokkaido with my family (^O^) For lunch, we wanted seafood and found a great place. I had a 10-piece sushi set. The sea urchin I had in Hokkaido before was so delicious... and this time, it was just as tasty! Even though I thought I could finish 10 pieces easily, savoring each bite made me surprisingly full. Hokkaido's food is truly satisfying! (๑>◡<๑)

I stayed for 2 nights at Hotel & Spa Resort La Vista Hakodate Bay, which was located across the street, so I decided to visit for lunch. Even though it was close to the end of lunch hours, they kindly accommodated me. The food was a bit disappointing as the flavors were not quite there. Ezo Awabi with Kombu Soy Sauce Grilled @1296, Fresh Sea Urchin Sashimi @2268, Grilled King Crab @2700.

I went to Hakodate because I wanted to eat seafood bowl. Marukatsu Suisan is a nationwide chain of conveyor belt sushi restaurants, but this place not only has sushi but also a variety of other dishes. The seafood bowl had a great volume for its price, which was really nice.

The food was okay. It's not cheap for a self-service restaurant. There are multiple pick-up windows which can be inconvenient. Good for a break when tired.

I wanted to try the famous Hakodate specialty, squid sashimi, so I visited this restaurant. Even though it's an izakaya, it was easy to enter as a customer just looking for a meal, and I was able to enjoy my food. Of course, the squid sashimi was delicious and satisfying.

I was very disappointed with this restaurant. I had high expectations coming to Hakodate, but the reality was far from the menu photos. The three-color rice bowl I ordered was a letdown - the sea urchin had little flavor, the salmon roe was tasteless, and only the crab was decent. Overall, I will not be returning here.

Before dinner, I had squid sashimi and local beer, which is perfect for this time of year. The local beer in Hakodate has a slightly sweet and refreshing taste, goes down smoothly and feels good in the body. It's dangerous though, as it's easy to drink too much before dinner. The squid sashimi is in season and can be found in many places. At this restaurant, it was cut long, almost like somen noodles, and eaten with dipping sauce. Personally, I prefer it to be cut thinner.

Vanilla Air + Route Inn Grandia Hakodate, I came all the way to Hakodate~ 2 nights, 3 days 2017.02.23-2018.02.25 Walking on the snow, this is the thing I wanted to do the most (⑅・◡・)✰ Let's walk two stations by bus from Hakodate Station, about 10 or 15 minutes of walking~ I think I walked about that much. La Festa Hakodate, which can be said to be the landmark of the Bay Area, jumps into view. In front of that is the shop I'm aiming for. Crossing the long icicle fountain, on the left is a souvenir shop, and here is Ikai Kaiten. I slipped in 30 minutes before the lunchtime closing. "Are you okay?" they asked, and I said, "Yes, I'm okay." First, beer on the rocks. Various ordered items. Squid sashimi should be shared, this amount is just right. Uni, ikura, crab three-color bowl. The amount is like a slightly larger rice bowl, but it's enough. I added squid mayo to the second half of the bowl. The beer is reasonably priced. The one I drank this time was Goryokaku no Hoshi, a Weizen. I love white beer. I also wanted to eat nigiri sushi. A night with such a menu is lovely. The cost of the day at Ikai Kaiten was a total of 3521 yen. Credit cards are accepted. Thank you for the meal♪

Hakodate morning market report part two! After enjoying fresh squid and oysters, it's time for sushi, our soul food! We headed to Daruma, a standing sushi bar inside Ekini Market. The space is small, but cozy, with a kind hostess who is also a female sushi chef, which is rare. We ordered various sushi including scallops, abalone, crab, and shrimp. Each piece was delicious, with the rice slightly warm and perfectly balanced. We also tried a sushi roll and were pleasantly surprised by the generous size and quality. Next, we visited Marukatsu Suisan, a revolving sushi restaurant, where we tried unique fish like Pacific saury and squid. The uni, ikura, and crab miso were also top-notch. The quality of sushi at both places was exceptional, even at a revolving sushi restaurant. Afterward, we visited Yunokawa Onsen and enjoyed the refreshing sea breeze and views of the Tsugaru Strait. Overall, Hakodate mornings are delightful and full of tasty surprises. Be sure to visit these sushi spots: Daruma (Ekini Market) and Marukatsu Suisan (Hakodate Station).
