A super famous restaurant in Tomakomai with only 23 seats. I went there this day to try the Marutoma Don. I arrived around 10 am on a weekday and there were about 10 people in line. I waited for about 15 minutes before entering the restaurant. As planned, I was able to get in without much of a wait. The highlight of the day was the super cheap Super Double Raw Shrimp Don (15 Button Shrimp, 15 Sweet Shrimp) - market price ¥2720, but only ¥850. I stuck to my plan and ordered the Marutoma Don. While waiting, I snacked on some squid salted fish. After 20 minutes, the long-awaited Marutoma Don arrived. I also decided to try the Salmon Toro Mayo Don, which was also reasonably priced. I ordered: Marutoma Don (¥1500), Salmon Toro Mayo Don (¥400), Squid Salted Fish (¥120). The Marutoma Don is a popular seafood bowl that about 70% of customers order. The toppings that day included Abalone, Tuna, Salmon, Toro Salmon, Surf Clam, Salmon Roe, Fresh Sea Urchin, White fish like Flounder, and about 15 Sweet Shrimp. The toppings are cut large and the bowl is generous. Although it's not vinegared rice, there is a lot of rice. If you want to enjoy more Surf Clam, I recommend the "Raw Surf Clam Don". The toppings vary each day, so it's a surprise. With over 10 toppings at a price of ¥1500, I think it's a great value. Sometimes there are surprise menu items priced at a few tens or a hundred yen, so you can look forward to some surprises.

Arrived around 9:40 on a regular day and there were about 15 people in line. Waited for about 1.5 hours. It's a very popular restaurant. They take orders in the order of entry, so you have to wait another 10 minutes or so. Ordered the Hokki Curry for 1200 yen and the Hokki Fry as a side for 1200 yen. They were served in about 15 minutes. The staff inside were very friendly and hospitable. The Hokki Curry was rich and slightly sweet with a medium spiciness. It had a lot of Hokki clams and was very delicious! The Hokki Fry was half-cooked and fried just right, also very tasty! The seafood bowl and other dishes looked tempting, but I recommend the Hokki Curry for its unique taste that you can only enjoy here. However, be prepared to wait for a long time outdoors if you want to visit this restaurant.

Despite waiting in line outside in the scorching heat for an hour and a half, I finally got to eat. It was my first visit in almost 20 years, and the restaurant was just as I remembered, with the addition of more autographs and photos of famous people. The clam curry was delicious! The Galana drink was different from regular Galana, with a lighter taste that seemed to be designed to complement the clam curry. Thank you for the meal.

Marutoma Shokudo in Tomakomai City, Hokkaido offers a unique curry dish with plenty of hokki (surf clam). The curry has a rich and distinctive flavor that can become addictive. The restaurant is located at 1-1-13 Shiomi-cho, Tomakomai City, on the 1st floor of the Tomakomai Public Wholesale Market. The average budget is between 1000 to 2000 yen, and they have parking available. They are closed on Sundays and holidays, and their operating hours are from 5:00 to 14:00. #HokkaidoGourmet #Gourmet #HokkaidoCurry #HokkaidoTravel #HokkaidoSightseeing #Curry #HokkigaiCurry #MarutomaShokudo #TomakomaiGourmet #FishermansMeal #TomakomaiCurry

It was amazing again! The flavors are worth waiting in line for. Due to the typhoon affecting the supply, there was limited availability of North Pacific Giant Octopus, but we were able to enjoy it. We had the classic Hokki Curry, North Pacific Giant Octopus sashimi, and Sea Urchin bowl, all of which were delicious. Looking forward to visiting again next year!

Hokkaido Wanderlust Travel ㉝ Tomakomai City, Japan's number one seafood restaurant featured on TV☆ I was planning to eat the popular Marutoma Don, but... I decided to try various recommendations! Flower crab, a crab that is only caught in Nemuro, for only ¥300 per cup ⋋✿ ⁰ o ⁰ ✿⋌ Ikura Don, 300g of salmon roe for a super cheap price of ¥1180 instead of ¥4500! Kagoshima farmed premium bluefin tuna sashimi, one slice for ¥80 instead of ¥150, and I got 3 slices. Half-priced Sakuramasu sashimi, 5 slices for less than ¥250. Hokkigai sashimi for ¥600 because Tomakomai City is number one in surf clam landings in Japan. Handmade morning squid salted fish for ¥120. How about squid meatballs? I forgot, but they were around ¥100, and I spent around ¥2500 to eat the dishes in the photos ( ̄(エ) ̄)ノ It's a super popular restaurant, so if you can't get in on the first try, be prepared to wait for 3 hours. The navigation led us to the wrong place, and when we arrived at 4:45, there were already 17 people waiting in line (>0<;) There are 23 seats, but the first round only had 18 people until we left. They took orders one by one and cooked accordingly. We waited for our food for 40 minutes until it arrived at 6:25. They brought out the Flower crab, squid meatballs, and salted fish first, so we didn't get bored waiting. If you want to eat without waiting, be sure to arrive by 4:20 (。•̀ᴗ-)✧

I waited for a total of 3 hours, but it was worth it for the deliciousness. The curry had a strong broth flavor, and the surf clam was incredibly tender. I had a seafood bowl, and since there was only one fisherman making them, I wished there was another person to speed things up. But it's a taste worth wanting to have again.

We lined up from 8:30 in the morning and waited for about 150 minutes. It was just about lunchtime (laughs). We shared a Marutoma bowl and Hokki curry. There were many daily menu options available, including discounted rice bowl dishes. It might be a good idea to decide on your dish by looking at the menu inside the restaurant. Everything was delicious, and the staff were kind and made it a pleasant dining experience.

The seafood bowl (Marutoma bowl) offers good value for money, but the Hokki curry is just average for its price. The restaurant is always too crowded, possibly due to the fact that they have a limited capacity of around 16 people, or because of the rush during lunchtime deliveries. The food takes a long time to come out. The shrimp in the seafood bowl is nothing special, the tuna is full of sinew, the salmon roe is watery, and the sea urchin is supermarket-level quality. On a weekday Friday, I waited for 2 hours from 10 a.m. to get in for lunch at 12 p.m. The restaurant only served about 30 customers in those 2 hours (less than 2 turnovers). The service is too slow, I won't be going back.

I had the Maltoma Donburi for 1,500 yen and the Hokki Curry for 1,200 yen at Maltoma Shokudo in Tomakomai City. The Maltoma Donburi was impressive with generous servings of sweet shrimp, tuna, yellowtail, cherry salmon, sea urchin, and salmon roe, all fresh and delicious for the price. The Hokki Curry had a delightful sweetness and texture from the Hokki clams and vegetables, making it a tasty curry that you'll get hooked on. (✯ᴗ✯)

[Reason for Visit] The main reason for visiting is to enjoy fresh seafood, particularly the Hokkigai (surf clam), at a dining establishment directly connected to the fishing port, which is very famous. As a huge fan of Hokkigai, I felt it was a must-visit in my lifetime.
[Access] It is a bit far from Tomakomai Station, requiring over 30 minutes on foot, so driving there is recommended. However, the parking lot in front of the restaurant only has space for about 14 cars, so it's safer to park at the large parking lot across the street called "Umi no Eki" especially if you plan to visit later in the day. The wait time can be quite long, especially if there are around 10 people in line, so it's best to be prepared for a wait.
[Wait Time] As a rule of thumb, expect to wait about an hour with 15 people in line. So, with 45 people in line, you might have to wait for 3 hours. This is mainly due to the small size of the restaurant and the slow turnover rate caused by customers.
[Taste/Value] The Hokkigai curry is a must-try for Hokkigai lovers. The curry itself is a bit spicy, so it might be too much for children. The amount of Hokkigai in the dish may seem a bit less than expected. The sashimi was good, but not outstanding, so trying the daily specials might be a better choice. The cost performance is not as great for the regular menu items, but the daily specials offer good value.
[Recommendations/Other] The best recommendation would be to try the daily specials that are unique to that day. While Hokkigai is available year-round, other seafood dishes might surprise you. The water is self-service, and the door at the entrance can be noisy, so be prepared for that. The restroom is located across from the entrance inside the building, so it's recommended to inform others in line before using it.

It is recommended to arrive early due to the store closing at 14:00. This time, I barely made it in time at the end of the line. There is an important mission at the end of the line to manage a certain signboard. I have attached a picture of the signboard for you to view at your leisure. Sometimes there are people who ignore the manners and the signboard and cut in line. There seems to be a problem even for those entrusted with the mission at the end of the line. This time, a special menu was also offered at the end of the line and I enjoyed it deliciously. I would like to visit again. Thank you for the meal.

I arrived at the original restaurant for revenge, thinking that I had to eat at the original store after all, and arrived at 7 am in the morning with one person in line. I thought I could go in quickly, but ended up waiting for 45 minutes before finally entering the store. The interior of the store was small and crowded, with seating for about 30 people. There was one lady working alone, taking orders and serving food diligently. There were also two men in the kitchen, one handling seafood and the other preparing it. Maybe one more person to support the lady would make the operation more efficient. However, this is a dining hall in the market, so I shouldn't expect too much. The clam curry was different from the one I had at the previous restaurant. The clams were large and there was a lot of them at this price. The curry was sweet, probably to appeal to everyone. I prefer spicy curry, but I was satisfied with the amount and size of the clams. The Marutoma donburi was more of a sweet shrimp donburi, with shrimp as the main ingredient. However, it also had a small amount of abalone, tuna, salmon, ikura, clams, and other ingredients for 1,500 yen, which was a great deal. It's completely different from the tourist-oriented restaurants. If you go, don't have high expectations and understand that it's a dining hall for market-related people, then it's a delicious restaurant with great value for money. Thank you for the meal!

I lined up with about 10 people around 8 am on a weekday and entered the restaurant after waiting for an hour. I ordered the Hokki curry and the cream croquette from the side menu. The Hokki curry was very voluminous as it used a generous amount of Hokki. The crab cream croquette, although pre-made, paired very well with the curry. The only downside was that a single woman handled everything from taking orders, to payment, to serving, which resulted in a considerable wait time from seating to receiving the curry. I think if they improve their operations in this area, it could help alleviate the long line outside the restaurant.

Arrived at the restaurant on Saturday at 11:25 AM to find a huge line. The taxi driver mentioned it would be a one-hour wait with this many people in line. Feeling a bit relieved, I counted around 60 to 70 people waiting. Even though many people were quickly dishing out the Hokkai curry onto their plates in 15 seconds, and those who ate fast could finish in 3 minutes, the line didn't seem to move much. I had wanted to try the Hokkai curry since my trip to Hokkaido, and even though there were other restaurants nearby offering the same dish, I decided to wait here as I had seen it on TV. I patiently waited for 3 hours, 6 minutes, 36 seconds, and 63 milliseconds to be served. The sashimi was average, nothing special. The Hokkai curry was delicious, with chunks of Hokkai clams in a rich European-style curry. The long wait was worth it for the tasty dish.

The day after enjoying Sapporo, I rented a car and headed to Tomakomai where I used to get off the ferry here before. After finding a parking spot and waiting in line for 90 minutes, I finally got a seat at the restaurant. The atmosphere inside the restaurant made me fall in love instantly. The master brought me a bottle of Male Mountain when I ordered sake, and the waitresses were efficient and lively. Although they seemed a bit overwhelmed, they didn't forget anything. I ordered the Marutoma Donburi for 1500 yen, and later added some sake, squid menchi-katsu, and a takeout hokki shumai. It took a bit of time for everything to come out, but after waiting for 90 minutes, it was all worth it. Everything was so delicious. I can't wait to try the hokki curry next time.

I arrived around 5:30 in the morning, but there was already a line! However, with this number of people, if it's a normal popular restaurant, you can usually get inside in about 30 minutes. It took over 2 hours to finally get inside... They take orders in the order people entered, but it also took about 30 minutes for the Marutoma bowl to arrive after ordering. The Marutoma bowl arrived after 8 o'clock. The weather was bad that day with strong rain and wind, so just waiting outside made me feel like I was going to catch a cold haha. I thought it would be better if they could manage the inside of the restaurant more efficiently! It seemed like they were struggling to clean up inside and were leaving empty seats unattended, which caused delays in customers entering. Most popular restaurants have staff come outside to take orders and serve food inside smoothly, so just improving that a bit would increase turnover, I think. The Marutoma bowl was incredibly delicious, beyond 100 points, I was impressed. I would like to try the Hokki curry next time! The food was so delicious that if the turnover rate improved, it would be even better! I'm used to waiting in line regularly, but I felt like the turnover rate was the worst it's ever been, so I hope that can be improved! Also, I noticed flies flying around inside the restaurant, so if there was somewhere to put insect repellent... but that's also difficult, isn't it? The meal was delicious! The freshly fried Black Tiger prawn tempura was also incredibly delicious!

This time, I ordered Hokki Curry Ramen for 1200 yen, Uni Donburi for 2500 yen, and one piece of Anago for 350 yen as individual items, and this restaurant is without a doubt the best in terms of price and freshness in Japan. Especially the seafood bowl for 1650 yen is outstanding. I have been to various places in Japan, but is there any other restaurant that can beat this one? I don't think so!щ(°Д゜)゛

On the way back from Shiraoi, I stopped by Marutoma Shokudo in Tomakomai. I was prepared for a long line, but after waiting for about 2 hours, I finally got in. The rumors were true - great value for money and the hokki curry was delicious. I forgot to take a picture of the hokki curry. Even though it's not the season, I was amazed that I could have uni for only 2500 yen.

I waited in line for an hour on a weekday afternoon to try the Marutoma bowl priced at 1500 yen. It seems to be very popular. I have tried the Marumi Shouten's takeout before, but finally got to dine in and had the seafood bowl. The ingredients were fresh and delicious, but the rice was like porridge, so I ended up leaving most of it. It was white rice, not sushi rice. If the rice had been better, it would have been a good value for a tourist spot and a tasty seafood bowl with ingredients like abalone. My friend had the tuna marinated bowl, which had a lot of thick sauce and she said it was delicious. After that, I also bought the curry roux for Hokki curry as a takeout. The flavor was strong, but it was just right when I made curry pasta with it, and it was delicious. It seemed like there were more Hokki shells in the dishes served in the restaurant compared to the takeout. Thank you for the meal!

I went at 5 o'clock, but because it was Saturday, there were about 10 people lined up. I ended up eating at 7 o'clock. The turnover was just so slow. By the time I finished eating at 7:30, there was an unbelievable line. Those at the end will definitely have to wait until around noon. This time, I had the clam curry. Honestly, the meat is way more delicious. It was a good memory, but I won't go on a Saturday again.
