The ferry arrived in Tomakomai around 1 pm without any snow on the roads. I visited the Platto Minato Market, where I had the Hokki Curry, a local specialty. The scallops and herring were fresh and delicious, and the curry was unique and flavorful. The Hokki curry was a bit different from what I expected, with the Hokki being finely chopped and slightly overwhelmed by the curry flavor. However, adding the stylish mix of spices on the table enhanced the dish. Overall, I enjoyed the meal and would recommend trying the Hokki Curry at this restaurant in Tomakomai.

When in Tomakomai, you must try the local specialty, Hokkigai (surf clam). So, I visited the "Platto Shokudo" located in the public market. I had the Hokkigai and tuna bowl. The bowl was filled with plenty of surf clam and tuna slices on top of a bed of rice. It was so satisfying and my stomach was full.

A restaurant located inside the market at Tomakomai Port. The interior is spacious and even during busy times, you can get a seat in just a few minutes. The specialty HOKKI curry is spicy with a cumulative type of heat that even those who like spicy food may find a bit challenging. The portion is generous. It's quite a heavy meal for a food and drink trip. The HOKKI clams are so luxurious that each bite guarantees a piece, making you feel happy. However, if I had to say something, I think the HOKKI clams might taste better on their own, haha. In any case, it was a luxurious curry. Thank you for the meal.

The final destination of a Hokkaido tour. No more seafood this time. When you've come this far, it's all about "seafood"! Let's go to "Platt" here. When you think of Tomakomai, you think of "surf clam." There's a small line. It's hot inside the restaurant. We're seated and look at the menu. Oh no, everything looks so delicious! Let's go with a rice bowl dish. Now, what to pair with the "surf clam"? "Salmon?" "Crab?" Let's go with a combination of clams for a "surf clam and scallop rice bowl." Let's go all out for the last meal! And here comes the dish. The picture on the menu doesn't lie. Starting with the surf clam. It's crunchy and delicious! Maybe just the surf clam would have been enough. Since we're here, let's try the scallop too. Bite! This is good too! The scallop tastes as expected. The surprise is the surf clam. It's so delicious that maybe just the surf clam would have been better! If it weren't for the hangover, it would surely be even more delicious. I've reevaluated surf clams! Delicious!!

There is a famous hokkigai curry restaurant near the harbor with a huge line, so we found another one across the street. The seafood bowl looked delicious, but we couldn't come to Tomakomai and not try the hokkigai curry. The curry was dark and rich, with plenty of hokkigai clams. Let's go on a tour to eat hokkigai.

When you think of Hokkaido, seafood is the first thing that comes to mind. While there are dishes like pork bowl and Genghis Khan, seafood is still the best. I arrived at Tomakomai Ferry Terminal from Otaru by ferry, and I looked for the closest seafood restaurant. I found this restaurant in what looked like a market, and even though it was almost closing time, they let me in. The seafood bowl was smaller than I expected from the photos, with not too many toppings, but the variety and taste made up for it. Every topping was delicious, and I was impressed.

I am a Hokkaido native, but I have never tried some dishes like Hokki Curry. This time, I decided to try Hokki Curry before heading back from work in Tomakomai. I thought about going to Marutoku Dining, but I heard it's always crowded, so I gave up on that idea. I searched on Google and found out that I can also have Hokki Curry at "Platto Minato Market." The parking lot is spacious and easy to find a spot. There are multiple restaurants to choose from. Since it was around 9 o'clock, most places were empty. I ordered the Hokki Curry at Platto Dining. The curry was black, and it was said to be spicy. The curry arrived quickly, and it looked great with small pieces of Hokki in it. The spiciness was just right for me. The curry was delicious, but the portion size was a bit small for me. It was a bit pricey at ¥1300, so I decided to skip the extra portion. Overall, the curry was tasty with the flavor of Hokki. If you come to Tomakomai occasionally, it's worth trying. Itadakimasu!

When it comes to Tomakomai, people usually think of the Hokki Curry at Martoma Shokudo. However, since there was already a line forming at 11 o'clock, I decided to try Puratto Shokudo instead. It had a nice level of spiciness and plenty of Hokki clams in it, with more curry sauce than rice. I thought a little more rice would be nice, but overall it was delicious.

On this day, I visited my mother in the morning and left the hotel around 10 o'clock. After spending about an hour, my sister came, so I left the hospital and headed to Tomakomai, where I planned to have a late lunch. After refueling and taking care of some other things, I got on the Doto Expressway around 12:30. I thought about stopping by a popular restaurant, but decided against it because there would definitely be a long line. I got off at Tomakomai Chuo IC and initially planned to go to a restaurant called Goro-san, but there was still a line outside even after 1 o'clock, so I decided to head towards the sea. Another popular restaurant also had about 15 people waiting outside, so I ended up at Platto Shokudo. The restaurant was about half full, and I could hear a lot of foreign languages being spoken. I considered getting a sashimi set meal, but ended up choosing the "Grilled Hokke Set Meal with Fresh Hokkai Clam Sashimi" for 2,450 yen. It had been a while since I spent this much on lunch. The dishes arrived in about 10 minutes. The grilled hokke seemed slightly smaller than before, but it was still delicious with grated daikon and a little soy sauce. The Hokkai clam sashimi, priced at 850 yen, was fresh and tasty, but I felt like I could have bought three local clams and made a similar dish at home. Overall, I enjoyed the meal and even had a second helping of rice for free. It had been over three years since my last visit, and I realized that I should consider my order more carefully next time.

The original hokkigai clam curry restaurant had a long line, so we decided to try this place nearby. It seems to be a restaurant catering to tourists. Due to my work, I understand the cost of ingredients, so I found the prices a bit high. Hokkigai curry is a specialty, so many other restaurants besides the original one offer it on their menu. We ordered the hokkigai curry, and my partner ordered the hokkigai and salmon bowl. The hokkigai in the curry was small and the curry itself was average. I expected the hokkigai flavor to stand out more, but it was just a regular black curry. If the hokkigai was larger and more satisfying to eat, I might consider coming back. The hokkigai and salmon bowl had delicious hokkigai and tasty salmon. However, in a seafood town, you can find similar dishes at lower prices. For the price we paid, I expected a bit more creativity in the dishes. I'm not sure if it's worth coming all the way here for this. I had high hopes for the hokkigai curry, but it didn't quite meet my expectations.

The sparkling seafood bowl with ikura, crab, sea urchin, and grilled scallop was dazzling! Despite the small size of the bowl, it had a satisfying amount of seafood. The miso soup that came with it had daikon radish in it. Tomakomai is known for its grilled scallops, and many restaurants offer scallop curry. I was curious about it, but when in Hokkaido, I had to have seafood bowls and sushi. If there was a mini size option for the scallop curry, I would have definitely tried it. That's my only regret!

After 6 years, I visited Hokkaido for the first time, specifically in Tomakomai. I found a cheap ticket through Jetstar Japan's sale and decided to go to a day trip hot spring in Noboribetsu after having lunch in Tomakomai. I chose "Platto Shokudo" inside the Platto Minato Market as it is known for its famous "Hokki clam". I rented a bicycle from the Tomakomai Tourist Information Center and arrived at the restaurant in about 15 minutes. Although tempted by the "Three-color Bowl (uni, ikura, crab)", I decided to go for the "Hokki Curry". The curry was served generously on the plate, but I couldn't find the Hokki clam. I read a review mentioning that due to a shortage of Hokki clams, they had stopped serving dishes with it. However, I could still taste a hint of Hokki clam in the dish. The curry was spicy, just the way I like it, and I enjoyed it very much. Interestingly, the neighboring store was selling Hokki clams in different quantities at varying prices.

On the first day of a short trip to Sapporo, I took a JR train from New Chitose Airport to Tomakomai, where I rented a car share at the station and stopped by on my way to Noboribetsu's Daiichi Takimotokan. It's about a 5-minute drive from Tomakomai Station. As shown in the fifth image, Martoma Shokudo at 11 a.m. on a Monday had a long line, so I decided to eat at the Platto Minato Market instead. It was not crowded on a weekday. I couldn't decide between the surf clam curry or just having surf clam, but I ended up ordering this set. It was a delight for surf clam lovers. The surf clam rice had a delicious flavor soaked in. I couldn't buy fresh seafood on the first day of the trip, but it was a good place to buy souvenirs.

I had the famous Hokki curry in Tomakomai, which cost 1300 yen (tax included). It was a generous portion, and I found it to be quite filling for breakfast. I wish they offered a half-size option. The sashimi set and grilled fish set looked delicious too.

Today's weather was sunny☀️ I went for a drive to Tomakomai! Originally, I was planning to go to the top-ranked restaurant in Tomakomai on Tabelog (a restaurant review website) but I couldn't wait and ended up going into a different restaurant. Tomakomai is known for its delicious North Pacific saury. I chose the customizable three-color rice bowl with surf clam, tuna, and scallop. The dish arrived in about 5 minutes and it was full of volume! The surf clam had a nice texture and no fishy smell. The scallop was also very fresh with a nice crunch. The tuna was also delicious. Overall, it was a satisfying meal with good value for money. It would have been even better if it was sushi rice, but still, it was a really tasty lunch. I indulged myself today. Thank you for the meal!

In front of a coffee shop in Tomakomai, three of us had our first visit for a meal. We ordered the daily sashimi set for 1,300 yen. It was a holiday around 9:30 AM and the place wasn't too crowded. The atmosphere was lively with energetic voices of women, indicating that it's a popular spot. The background music was playing the WBC semifinals on TV. Since one of us ordered a grilled dish, it would take a bit longer. When asked how we wanted to proceed, we didn't mind if there was a time difference, so we requested to have the dishes served as they were ready. The sashimi set included salmon, scallop, and octopus, each with a good thickness and sweetness. We also got cabbage salad, miso soup, pickled radish, and rice as sides. You can also order a "platt coffee" for an additional cost. If you bring the receipt, you can get a 100 yen discount on the platt coffee. Overall, it was a satisfying meal.

Seafood restaurant located inside the Minato Market at the Sea Station in Tomakomai City. ・Hokki Curry - Regular size 1,100 yen (tax included) Ordered curry made with Hokki (surf clam), a specialty of Tomakomai. This Hokki Curry is a soul food of Tomakomai. Comes with salad. The curry is pitch black with a good aroma of spices that stimulates the appetite. The curry generously covers the rice. It has a moderate spiciness and a good level of spiciness. There is also a slight acidity, making it an easy-to-eat curry. And wherever you eat, you will always find plenty of Hokki in the curry. ・Live Hokki Sashimi - 825 yen (tax included) The Hokki had a crunchy texture and a very sweet flesh. I have been to Tomakomai many times before, but this was the first time I faced Hokki clam head-on like this.

I have visited this place several times, but this is my first review. I ordered the "Hokki Curry normal size." The curry looks strangely black. It has a nice level of spiciness and tastes delicious. However, the dark color doesn't really stimulate my appetite. Personally, I think the normal color would be better.

Located in the "Umi no Eki Platto Minato Ichiba" within a 10-minute bus ride from JR Tomakomai Station in Tomakomai City, Hokkaido. I visited the restaurant on a weekday morning and it was very quiet. I ordered the Hotate Curry for 1100 yen. The curry was black in color, which might be due to the inclusion of scallop ink instead of squid ink. The curry itself was delicious. It also contained scallops, but I didn't particularly feel the presence of scallops. Scallops tend to stand out more when you chew on them. Enjoying hot curry with steam in the cold winter of Tomakomai was a delightful experience. Overall, I found the sashimi to be more enjoyable than the curry.

Hokki rice set meal for 1,210 yen. Added hokki sashimi... total came to around 2,000 yen. Definitely feels like a local market meal! Eating local food is important. There are many famous restaurants nearby, but they all serve similar dishes. Maybe I should have tried the hokki curry?

On the way to Noboribetsu Onsen, we stopped by Marut** Shokudo for lunch, but there was a long line. It was already 13:30, so we decided to try this place next, which had two groups of customers already. My husband ordered the crab bowl, as he had been craving crab for a while. Since I had sushi for lunch yesterday, I wasn't in the mood for seafood, so I went with the surf clam curry. The crab bowl came with plenty of flaked meat on top. It was a bit watery, but my husband enjoyed it. My surf clam curry had a very dark sauce overflowing onto the rice. I couldn't see much surf clam, but I could taste it. Personally, I think there was too much sauce, and I wish there was more rice. I ended up finishing my husband's leftover rice from the crab bowl. I wish the surf clam had a stronger presence, the sauce was less overwhelming, and the prices were tax-inclusive. The crab bowl was 1600 yen, and the surf clam curry was 1000 yen, excluding tax.
