Review of breakfast on the second day of stay. I stayed at Toyoshutei, but when choosing breakfast, I decided to try the buffet at Tofutei based on the staff's recommendation that "the breakfast buffet at Tofutei is popular, especially the freshly baked bread." The conclusion is that there is a huge difference in the level of breakfast between Toyoshutei and Tofutei. It is natural that there is a difference in level since the accommodation fees are completely different, but in that case, the hotel should not recommend Tofutei's buffet to Toyoshutei guests. This large ryokan is located in Tokachigawa Onsen. It is called "Daiichi Hotel," but this hotel is independent and is completely different from "Daiichi Hinteiru" in Jozankei and Lake Shikotsu. The hotel is divided into two, Toyoshutei and Tofutei. These two have completely different prices and customer bases. The two "tei" are also different buildings, and a special card is required to go to Toyoshutei. There is a lounge on the 3rd floor of Toyoshutei, where guests can freely enjoy alcohol (wine, beer), snacks, tea sweets, coffee, etc. Toyoshutei guests can use it freely. Also, the rooms at Toyoshutei have a private open-air bath with Tokachigawa Onsen's pride, moor hot spring. The open-air bath is cold in winter due to the outside air, but with a lukewarm temperature setting, you can relax and enjoy the hot spring without worrying about others whenever you like. The drinks in the room's refrigerator are also free, so you can enjoy sparkling wine or beer in the room. For a detailed review of dinner, please see the review of "Tokachigawa Onsen Daiichi Hotel Toyoshutei." Dinner was a choice between a Japanese kaiseki meal or teppanyaki. The Japanese kaiseki meal was served in a private dining room. For breakfast, you can choose from a Japanese set meal, seafood bowl, pork bowl in a private dining room, or buffet. The buffet is mainly for Tofutei guests, but Toyoshutei guests can also use it upon request. We used the private dining room breakfast at Toyoshutei once and the buffet breakfast at Tofutei once. We were attracted to the "freshly baked bread" at the buffet, but considering the high price paid for Toyoshutei, we should have used the private dining room. For us, who are used to eating delicious bread in Tokyo, the "freshly baked bread" did not impress us at all, and overall, it gave the impression of a buffet from a ryokan of the past. If I were to rate Tofutei's buffet breakfast, it would be 3.0. As for the rooms, they are clean but I think they are small for the price. Also, there are few outlets (especially inconvenient without outlets by the bedside). There is no alcohol for disinfection in the room. Also, I am dissatisfied with the check-in process. Originally, Toyoshutei guests were supposed to check in at the lounge on the 3rd floor of Toyoshutei, but currently, due to COVID-19 measures, check-in is done at the front desk on the 1st floor. Many accommodation facilities have taken measures to prevent the spread of COVID-19, but the change in the check-in process at this ryokan is unclear. Currently, check-in is done at the front desk on the 1st floor along with the relatively cheap Tofutei guests. In my case, I had to wait in line in front of the front desk for nearly 15 minutes due to the congestion at check-in.
