During my visit in July 2023, I decided to try the "Whim Sashimi Platter" for 1,000 yen, which included saltwater sea urchin from Chitose and Osamumbe for 1,500 yen each. I also took advantage of the time-limited offer and got 500 yen off each of the Chinese eel over rice dishes. Additionally, I ordered live oysters for 435 yen and squid with sea urchin for 350 yen. The total bill came to 4,785 yen.
I love fish, so I try to eat it every day, preferably as sashimi. However, on weekdays, I usually have to settle for leftover sashimi from the supermarket, as the selection is limited compared to Tokyo. But on weekends, I crave high-quality fish that I can't find at supermarkets or department stores. After visiting several fishmongers in town, I concluded that this place had the best selection, despite being far away.
It was the day of the midsummer eel festival, and the restaurant was bustling. I ordered the "Whim Sashimi Platter" and live oysters, as well as the sea urchin and squid dish as a delicacy. Although the sea urchin was from China, it looked good and was reasonably priced, so I added an eel over rice dish to my basket before heading to the register. I also couldn't resist the time-limited offer on sea urchin at the entrance, so I bought two for 1,000 yen each.
After leaving the restaurant, I stopped by Motsujiro for a drink and then bought a bottle of Yuki no Chashu at Marumi Sake Shop before heading home. For dinner, I enjoyed the live oysters and the "Whim Sashimi Platter," which included scallops, flounder, tuna, what seemed like Spanish mackerel, salmon, octopus, and egg. Excluding the egg, there were six different types of sashimi, each with generous portions. The tuna slices were particularly large, and the salmon was rich in flavor.
The live oysters were exceptional, bursting with flavor, and paired perfectly with Japanese sake. Despite being from Miyagi Prefecture and not Hokkaido, they were delicious. The sea urchin and squid dish was also delightful, with large sea urchin pieces adding to the overall experience. As for the eel over rice dish, it fell short of expectations, lacking the desired tenderness and flavor. However, it was still enjoyable. I will save the sea urchin for when my order arrives. Compared to my previous purchase, the sea urchin had larger pieces and an even more intense flavor. The value for money was incredible!
Overall, the dining experience was excellent, with the exception of the eel dish. The variety and quality of the sashimi were outstanding, and the sea urchin was a definite highlight. I look forward to enjoying the sea urchin from my order soon.
