Renowned for French traditional sweets, the shop "Au Bon Vieux Temps" is like a department store for French confectionery created by Chef Katsuhiko Kawada. The shop is located about a 7-minute walk from Oyamadai Station on the Tokyu Oimachi Line, at the far end of the Happy Road Oyamadai shopping street near Oyamadai Station, along the Kan-Nana. The shop has a very stylish atmosphere, almost like suddenly being in the streets of Paris. The interior is spacious with different sections for various genres. I arrived around 4 p.m. and was able to enter smoothly, but there were quite a few customers inside. The menu is extensive, with items ranging from side dishes, baked goods, confectionery, bread, jams, and more. I intended to buy a cake but since the closing time is 5 p.m., many items were already sold out. I purchased "Zephyr" for ¥770 (tax included), "Delice aux Framboises" for ¥470 (tax included), and "Au Bon Vieux Temps" for ¥490 (tax included). The Zephyr has a strong rum flavor, and the mascarpone is rich yet refreshing. It offers a crispy texture and a variety of flavors to enjoy. It pairs exceptionally well with chocolate, so I recommend trying them together. The Delice aux Framboises has a strong raspberry acidity and punch. The firm dough provides a satisfying bite, and compared to the other two items I bought, it gives a fuller feeling. The Au Bon Vieux Temps is rich, with a smooth custard and excellent melt-in-your-mouth texture. The compote of pear, sponge cake soaked in a slightly strong alcohol, strikes a perfect balance with a punchy flavor. Items with alcohol content are quite strong, so they may not be suitable for children, but with the abundance of sweetness, it's undoubtedly a place to enjoy the authentic taste of France. It exudes strength rather than delicacy, so preferences may vary. Personally, I'm not a big fan of cakes with alcohol, but strangely, I found them easy to accept. Isn't this the essence of French confectionery? With many more items on the menu, I look forward to visiting again. Thank you for the delicious meal.
