Today, I visited Tempura Araki, which has won the Tabelog Award Bronze and received two Michelin stars, to try their omakase course. They offer a variety of fresh seafood caught in Hokkaido, such as Tobi maguro and Hokkaido sea urchin. The quality of the ingredients, which have been trained by the cold and ocean currents of Hokkaido, is outstanding and completely different from those in Honshu. The tempura coating, which is sometimes sweet and soft, and sometimes crispy and fragrant, is adjusted in temperature and time to provide the optimal state for each ingredient. The conversation with the gentle owner also added flavor to the experience, making it a satisfying and enjoyable time. The delicious and reasonably priced tempura at Araki is unforgettable.

Located right in the heart of Sapporo, Hokkaido, Tenpura Araki is fantastic! Both the tempura and the head chef were amazing. I thought I wouldn't be able to eat much fried food, but I ended up eating a ton without feeling heavy in my stomach. I was so impressed! And the lemon sour was so delicious that I ended up drinking 8 glasses of it.

I made a reservation for the 6:00 pm start time! It was interesting to have both rare and cooked shrimp dishes, and they were delicious. There was only a 7-8 second difference between them. I chose green tea, which was refreshing. The dessert with sweet potato and ice cream was a great combination of hot and cold. It was just the right amount of food. Thank you for the meal!

I was lucky to have a seat at the corner for the fourth time. Although it may not offer the best view, I like it because it's calming. <Sashimi> - Pacific saury with Tosazu vinegar - Prawn and seaweed - Ginkgo nuts <Tempura> - Prawn legs - Prawn - Squid - Anago - Eggplant - Sea urchin and seaweed tempura - Purple yam and seaweed tempura The order of the tempura dishes made sense. <Sashimi> - Squid - Anago liver in a mochi shell - Baby octopus tempura with mochi rice - Fresh green peas, sweet <Tempura> - Conger eel - Eggplant - Snap peas and fava beans - Tomato in sweet vinegar - Bean tempura - Fresh fava beans - Corn - Clam - Anago (revived) - Assorted tempura We had three types of sake for the second round, so we ordered less food. The bill came out to be 29,000 yen.

Genius, Japanese cuisine that values temperature is delicate and wonderful. Despite being full, there is no stomach ache! Genius! I can say it as many times as I want. The sweet potato and milk ice cream they served at the end was also genius!

This is my second visit. Last time, the restaurant was still under renovation, so it was right after it opened. Since then, the atmosphere of the restaurant has changed a lot. The chef is as friendly as ever, livening up the place and making it a fun experience. The food is very delicious, with a clear focus on ingredients and cooking methods!

I've always wanted to go and finally made it. The food is amazing. I thought this was incredible. You definitely need to make a reservation, but it's worth it. A great spot in Sapporo, with attentive owners. The sake selection was also impressive. I want to go again!

I enjoyed tempura made with seasonal ingredients on this night. Due to a slight mistake, I visited right after training, so I only had one glass each of draft beer and local sake, as the alcohol hit me quickly! The rare shrimp tempura and half-cooked mantis shrimp tempura were delicious. The wild vegetables and vegetables such as asparagus, onions, mountain udo, and koshiabura were sweet, slightly bitter, and tasty. Towards the end, I was quite full, so the smaller-sized tempura rice bowl was a relief. The sweet potato tempura served as dessert was as sweet as a dessert and was perfect for refreshing the palate. I will definitely revisit when I come back to Sapporo!

Recommended Restaurant: In May, it had been a while since I visited Tempura Araki. Despite the nationwide weather difficulties affecting seafood procurement, the dishes, starting with the bonito sashimi, were impeccable. The tempura had even more finesse, with the rare and perfectly cooked prawns being the best ever. The Hokkaido spring delicacies of asparagus and mountain vegetables (koshiabura and yamaudo) were particularly delicious. I look forward to visiting again in a different season. Can't wait for the next visit. (Reposted below information) Located about a 5-minute walk from Susukino Station on the Namboku Line, Tempura Araki is a two-starred restaurant in the Michelin Guide Hokkaido 2017 special edition, with 3 toques in the Go and Miyo guides for 2019 and 2020, and awarded the Bronze rating on Tabelog in 2021. The chef, Mr. Araki, who looks like he's been golfing, trained at renowned establishments such as "Aoyama Esaki" (now relocated to Yatsugatake) and "Tenpura Iwai," and won the Go and Miyo 2019 "Rising Young Chef Award." His meticulous selection of local ingredients and message-driven cooking style shine through. The spring season with dripping soft-boiled eggs and female snow crabs is a must-visit, but other seasons are also intriguing. Looking forward to the next visit. Omakase Course @ 20,000 yen (price varies): 1. Bonito sashimi 2. Asari clam dashi, shrimp manjo, azuki greens 3. Squid with eggs 4. Ginkgo nuts 5. Prawn heads 6. Prawns (rare, perfectly cooked) 7. Batico fish 8. Bigfin reef squid 9. Sandfish 10. Wild scallops from Notsuke 11. New onions 12. Asparagus from Akai River's Korobokkur Village 13. Sea urchin from Nemuro 14. Sea noodles (seaweed) 15. Koshiabura and yamaudo 16. Eel ball 17. Tempura tea 18. Sweet potatoes Budget (approximate): 22,000 yen to 35,000 yen Course + 2 draft beers + sake: around 25,000 yen

✨What a delightful experience! Thank you so much for your time. The food was incredibly delicious. It's hard to believe that it was fried dishes because my stomach felt great the whole time!! I was impressed by the luxurious cooking method that utilizes Hokkaido's local ingredients. The flavors were refreshing yet rich, leaving a lasting impression on my palate. The finale of tempura and divine sweet potato ice cream was outstanding. I will definitely visit again. Thank you so much for the wonderful meal. ✨

I was lucky to make a reservation at this restaurant, Tempura Araki, and it was the best tempura I have ever had in my life. The tempura included grated turnip, rare shrimp, cauliflower, conger eel, scallop, lotus root, onion, sand smelt, tempura shrimp bowl, fried sweet potato, and homemade ice cream.

This year, I had my long-awaited birthday dinner at Araki. I had tried their bento before when my husband brought it home, and it was incredibly delicious, so I wanted to visit the restaurant. We were seated at the best table and started with a toast with beer. The beer had a fine foam and was very refreshing. The meal began with marinated tuna and then a variety of freshly fried tempura dishes were served. The dishes I had that day are shown in the photos below. The shrimp and lotus root, the sweetfish tempura, cauliflower, and the sweet potato on the dessert ice cream were all outstanding! My husband mentioned that he had been here a few times and his favorite is the sweet potato, while I was amazed by the cauliflower tempura that I tried for the first time. A restaurant that serves delicious vegetable tempura is definitely a gem! The cauliflower is fried for 20 minutes, and the sweet potato for an hour, resulting in a tender and sweet taste. They use two pots for frying, with a time difference in frying, showing their dedication. The shrimp comes in two varieties, and the texture is emphasized by careful preparation. The shrimp, squid, and scallops have a rare finish. It's best enjoyed simply with salt and sudachi squeezed on top. We had a luxurious dinner enjoying the exquisite tempura fried by the friendly and entertaining owner. My husband described it as tempura that brings happiness, and I couldn't agree more. I'll definitely ask him to take me there again (laughs). Thank you for the wonderful meal!

On the second day of my trip to Hokkaido, I had lunch at this tempura restaurant in Sapporo, which has been awarded 2 Michelin stars and selected as a Bronze restaurant on Tabelog. I made a reservation for their Saturday-only lunch course (6600 yen) and here is what I had: - Marinated horse mackerel with new leaves of shiso on top - Tempura of shrimp head - Tempura shrimp - Lotus root from Ibaraki Prefecture - Eggplant - Grated nagaimo (Japanese yam) - Red core daikon radish - Tempura of conger eel with dipping sauce - Tempura of eel with grated mountain wasabi and salt - Tempura of sweet potato with milk ice cream The tempura was delicious and I enjoyed the meal. For lunch, it was not the head chef Araki, but his apprentice, Mr. Toide, who served us. He did a great job and showed excellent hospitality. Starting next month, Mr. Toide will be moving to the Niseko branch, and the lunch prices will be increased with the head chef taking over. Thank you for the wonderful meal!

I visited "Tempura Araki" on this day. The restaurant is located in Susukino, Sapporo. It was my first visit of the year and it had been a while since I last visited. I went with a friend who lives in Sapporo and loves tempura, and we had a great time catching up. I forgot to save my notes, so this review is based on my memory and the photos I took. As the title suggests, Araki is known for their vegetables. While Hokkaido is known for seafood, Araki uses carefully selected vegetables from both Hokkaido and other regions, bringing out the best flavors in each ingredient. As someone who prefers vegetables over seafood in tempura, I always enjoy my time here and this visit was no exception. Of course, they also offer seafood tempura, starting with a delicious tuna sashimi, seasonal items like horsehair crab, and rare options like eel and the special tempura gohan to finish off the meal. The lineup is impeccable and it's hard to imagine anyone leaving unsatisfied. We were fortunate to have some special guests that day, and the lively conversation with the owner added to the enjoyable atmosphere. I heard that Araki will be opening a branch in Niseko, catering to guests seeking the famous powder snow. If they can captivate visitors from around the world, I'm sure it will be a success. It's a wonderful restaurant that I would love to visit regularly if it were closer to home. Highly recommended for those who are curious. Thank you for the wonderful meal. I look forward to visiting again. ☆4.08-13422

Lunch in November 2022. Tempura at Araki, a famous restaurant in Sapporo, Hokkaido known for its tempura dishes. The restaurant is so well-known that when you mention eating tempura, people ask if you mean Araki. They have even received a Michelin star. The lunch menu is reasonably priced with smaller portions compared to dinner. The tempura is crispy and delicious, with dishes like fried fish and tempura sweet potatoes being highly recommended. This is a tempura restaurant located in the center of Sapporo. I had the course prepared by the second chef on this day. They pay attention to the way they cut the ingredients, so you can experience a new texture of familiar foods. The shrimp tempura appetizer had a gentle and delicious taste that warms you up on a cold day. When I put the sandfish in the tempura soup, it made a sizzling sound and lifted my mood! I topped the sandfish with grated radish on the curved part and enjoyed its refreshing taste. I was surprised by the lotus root. Since it was cut vertically, the fibers were still there, making it fluffy and stretchy like natto! The long green pepper was grown by a contracted farmer. It's a food I usually don't like, but this one was sweet and delicious. For the finale, you can choose from tempura rice bowl, tempura bowl, or tempura tea. They are all made with the same tempura, but the way you eat them is different. I chose the tempura bowl. I broke the tempura into pieces and ate it with seaweed and sesame salt. It was very refreshing and easy to eat! I usually get stomachache from fried foods, but I enjoyed this one until the end. The staff at the restaurant are very friendly, so even though it's a high-class counter-style place, you can feel comfortable. I recommend using it with close friends! The menu I had that day: Dinner course - Grilled saury with wasabi and salmon roe - Ginkgo nuts - Nameko mushroom soup with shrimp tempura, shrimp head, rare shrimp, well-fried shrimp, firefly squid, salted and sake-cooked sticky rice with salmon roe, sandfish, eggplant with bonito flakes and wood buds (20 minutes) - Lotus root from Ibaraki - Sweetfish tempura with lily bulb, chestnut with skin, red bell pepper, conger eel, tempura bowl, sweet potato cooked for 1 hour with freshly made milk ice cream [Business hours] 18:00- / 20:30- (2 sessions) [Closed] Sundays, public holidays [Advance reservation] Reservation only [Budget] From 15,000 yen [Address] 1F, Enjudo, 4-chome, Nana-7-jo Nishi, Chuo-ku, Sapporo, Hokkaido #Foodies #Foodstagram #FoodieFriendsWanted #Instafood #FoodPorn #TokyoFoodie #FollowMe #Yurimogu #YurimoguHokkaido

My husband was on a business trip to Sapporo, so I decided to visit this restaurant alone to have something delicious. The restaurant was full with reservation guests, but luckily there was one seat available for me. It was the day off for the owner, but I was excited to try the tempura alone for the first time. Most of the customers were tourists, but there were also many regulars, mostly in their late 20s to 40s. The seafood in Hokkaido is delicious! Seafood is definitely tasty!! The appetizers were also delicious! I was impressed by everything that was served. Oh my, this is the first time I've had such delicious tempura and I got completely hooked. I was also happy to see a wide variety of alcoholic drinks. I would love to visit again when I go to Sapporo next time. Thank you for the meal.

A tempura restaurant in Susukino. The renowned chef Araki, who trained at the famous restaurant Esaki in Aoyama, runs this popular establishment. Reservations are difficult to secure, but we managed to book a month in advance for our first visit. The chic and tranquil interior features a L-shaped counter with 9 seats. On this day, everyone except us seemed to be regular customers. The course meal started with appetizers that were all meticulously prepared and incredibly delicious. The tempura was cooked to perfection, with items like shrimp served half-cooked and others fully cooked, allowing for a comparison in taste and texture. The ingredients were not just fresh, but also processed in a calculated manner, such as aging certain items before cooking. The tempura was complemented by a clear and flavorful dipping sauce that was the best I've ever had. The eggplant was a standout, using Kyoto eggplant that was fried for 20 minutes to achieve a crispy exterior and a tender interior. It was served with a dipping sauce topped with bonito flakes and sansho leaves, creating a heavenly eggplant tempura dish. The matsutake mushroom, a large piece from Hokkaido, was cut in half vertically and fried. The aroma of the matsutake filled the air as soon as it was served, whetting the appetite. The texture was a perfect balance of chewiness and tenderness, bringing out the full umami and sweetness of the mushroom. The dessert, sweet potato tempura with vanilla ice cream, was also flawless. The ice cream, made with high-quality milk, was rich and creamy, pairing beautifully with the sweet and fluffy sweet potato. The tempura dishes were undeniably delicious, but unfortunately, the atmosphere was somewhat ruined by the chef's preoccupation with chatting with regular customers about golf and drinking parties, making it difficult to fully enjoy the meal.

For Mr. Araki, I traveled to Hokkaido. There are many tempura restaurants in Ginza, but once you try Araki's tempura, you can't go anywhere else. It's worth going to Hokkaido for this. I wonder why Araki's tempura tastes and feels so different from other places. It's truly a matter of "sense." One of a kind.
