Visited on a Saturday night. Made a reservation about a month in advance. [Points] ○ No dish was impressive, all were ordinary ○ Compared to other similar Western-style yakitori restaurants, the composition, content, taste, and grilling techniques were more memorable elsewhere ○ The service and pricing by the owner felt off, resulting in low satisfaction. −− *Operation: Multiple staff *Customer demographic: Young people *Payment: Cards accepted *Charge, service fee: 10% *Online reservations: Available, solo reservations allowed *Lunchtime service: Not available *Solo dining: Possible *Google rating: 4.3 *Tabelog current rating and impression: 3.92 Too high. Why? *Note: 2023 Yakitori EAST Top 100 [About the restaurant] Located a block away in Roppongi, this is 2023 Yakitori EAST Top 100. Reservations seem to be accepted only for a fee-based OMAKASE course. It's a bit of a walk from the station. [Interior] 12 counter seats and private rooms. Spacing between seats is slightly wider. It has an open kitchen, but the grilling area and counter are separated. It's not hot, and ventilation seems good as there was no smokiness. [Food] Reservations at 18:00 and 19:00 offer a 9,000 yen course. Drinks include about 3 types of wine in glasses, all Japanese wines. The dishes include: ○ 3 types of appetizers ○ Consommé soup ○ Grilled thigh meat of local chicken ○ Salad ○ Chicken tenderloin wrapped in shiso ○ Furi-sode (grilled chicken wing) ○ Chicken bisque chawanmushi ○ Tsukune (chicken meatballs) ○ Asparagus ○ Liver pate ○ Gizzard ○ Shishito pepper ○ Asparagus pickles ○ Liver ○ Shiitake mushroom ○ Grilled leeks of local chicken ○ Chicken soba (noodles) ○ Jasmine tea [Food Impressions] Personally, I don't like the atmosphere of Roppongi, and this restaurant reflects that vibe. The food is tasty but not outstanding or memorable. Compared to other similar Western-style yakitori restaurants, places like Toriaroma or the apprentice Chosumi-san are more impressive in terms of composition, content, taste, and grilling techniques. The chicken soba at the end was the best. Laugh Especially the first skewer of shiso-wrapped chicken, it was more of a searing than grilling. Furthermore, the texture and taste seemed like it had been soaked in a brine solution to tenderize. Also, considering the overall lack of volume in the course, there were too many vegetables. Out of 9 skewers, 3 were vegetables. Even in individual dishes, there were salads and pickles. Moreover, asparagus appeared in both skewers and pickles... Also, the grilled leeks were just a lump of meat... mostly vegetable skewers. The freshness of the vegetable skewers was good, but in a course where there was little volume and chicken essence, I wanted to eat more chicken. After the course, you couldn't order a la carte skewers based on your preference, you had to ask for a certain number and it would be a complete omakase. This additional time is kind of the charm of yakitori, so it felt dull. Naturally, I didn't add anything. Also, despite not being a one-person operation, there were no greetings like "Thank you" at the beginning or "Thank you for today" when leaving. Service was from the floor staff. The blond, young-looking owner never left the grilling area. I didn't exchange a single word with the owner. The clientele, mostly young people typical of Roppongi, might not mind such things. Or maybe it's just that the places I've been to lately have been exceptionally polite, not just limited to yakitori. The floor staff all provided good service, so it's a shame to rate the service low. The bill came to just under 30,000 yen for two people. I understand that yakitori places are expensive these days, but given the feel and content of this place, it felt overpriced. Overall, I felt this place didn't belong in this price range. My satisfaction was quite low, which is disappointing. This is for those who feel they must eat yakitori at a popular spot in Roppongi. For true yakitori enthusiasts, there are many better options out there. Despite high ratings from those I follow, I couldn't see the appeal.
