1. Visual seafood bowl No.1 Ezo Sea Sakura Ezo Sea (EZOUMI)
When I went to Sapporo, I wanted to eat a seafood bowl that I couldn't find in Tokyo, and the first choice that came to mind was the jeweled bowl at Ezo Sea Sakura Ezo Sea. The impressive seafood bowl with a splendid button shrimp towering over it is impactful and unforgettable once seen. It has been widely featured in travel guides and YouTube videos about Hokkaido. While there are many other attractive seafood bowl restaurants in Sapporo, I was so intrigued by this one that I neglected to gather other information. However, there wasn't much detailed information available, and I didn't know how crowded this place was before going.
2. Tragedy at the first visit to Ezo Sea Sakura Ezo Sea
On the first day of my Hokkaido trip, I took the ANA NH059 flight from Haneda at 10:00 am and arrived at New Chitose Airport at the scheduled time of 11:35 am. I quickly obtained the HOKKAIDOLOVE! 6-day round-trip pass (a miraculous ticket that allows unlimited rides on limited express trains for 12,000 yen) and immediately boarded the Airport Rapid to head to Sapporo. I arrived at Sapporo Station at 12:33 pm and reached Ezo Sea Sakura Ezo Sea in about 5 minutes, where there were about four high school students waiting. Oh, is that all? Easy peasy. I announced my arrival and joined the line, but tragedy struck after about 10 minutes. The jeweled bowl was sold out. Oh no. I later went to a fish market in Nijo Market and was somewhat satisfied, but missing out on the jeweled bowl was a big disappointment.
3. Appearance, menu, system, and atmosphere of Ezo Sea Sakura Ezo Sea
On the 5th day of my Hokkaido trip, I had been traveling long distances repeatedly, but I returned to Sapporo yesterday. On this day, I planned to leave plenty of time for lunch at Ezo Sea Sakura Ezo Sea. Ezo Sea Sakura Ezo Sea is located in the JR55 Building, about 3 minutes from Sapporo Station. From the station, there is a building called Sapporo 55 Building in front, and the slightly inconspicuous building behind it. There is a sign on the 1st floor. It says "Sashimi Izakaya Sea Sakura Michimaro." The address and phone number are the same as "Ezo Sea Sakura Ezo Sea," but they have separate Tabelog listings. Quite puzzling. Even though I eat out almost every day in Tokyo, I have never seen a restaurant like this before. I didn't notice it the first time I came. This is not limited to this place, as I found other places in Hokkaido that use old signs as they are. I was led to the best seat with a view of the railway. The window had a grid-like obstruction, but it was still a comfortable space. I looked at the menu. There were various options, but none were as appealing as the jeweled bowl. I ordered the Matsutake set as planned. After ordering, a soup broth was brought to me, which seemed to be for making ochazuke later. I expected the jeweled bowl to arrive quickly after ordering, but I had to wait quite a bit. After waiting for about 10 minutes, the jeweled bowl arrived.
