Just a 3-minute walk from Sapporo Station North Exit, this izakaya is located on the 1st floor of Hotel Mystays Sapporo Aspen. Today was the first day of a 2-day business trip to Sapporo, and after finishing my afternoon work as planned, I checked into the hotel I had reserved in the evening. After resting in my room for a while, I went out for dinner with my boss. The roads were icy from the snowfall the day before, and it was very cold, so we decided to avoid going far and instead tried this restaurant right next to the hotel. We arrived at the restaurant around 5:30 pm, and there were hardly any other customers inside yet. The interior had a stylish atmosphere with slightly dimmed lighting, and we were seated at a table in the center of the restaurant. We started with drinks, Premium Malt's draft beer (medium tumbler: 680 yen) and ginger ale (330 yen), and ordered clam hot pot (1680 yen), Muroran grilled chicken skewers (300 yen), traditional crab cream croquettes (480 yen), and grilled salmon collar (580 yen) after some consideration. The appetizer (450 yen) was marinated mackerel and kiwi in a cold dish, which was quite delicious, so we had high hopes for the dishes to come. The clam hot pot contained ingredients such as thick-neck clams from Akkeshi, scallops from Soya, shijimi clams from Abashiri, lighthouse mussels, tofu, and seaweed, but the broth was especially delicious. The large scallops had a thick and satisfying texture. The additional order of ramen (1 serving: 200 yen) was delicious with its rich broth. The Muroran grilled chicken skewers were skewers of pork and onions with a salty and fatty flavor that was incredibly delicious. The traditional crab cream croquettes, though small in size, were packed with plenty of crab meat when sliced open. We then ordered additional dishes of tempura of redfish from Nemuro (800 yen) and half-size grilled Atka mackerel (980 yen). The redfish tempura had a soft and melting texture in the mouth. We ate and drank until we were reasonably full, but the bill came out to just under 5000 yen per person. We had entered the restaurant without any prior information, but as the name "Hokkaido Food Market" suggests, we were able to enjoy delicious Hokkaido cuisine, so we were very satisfied. The restaurant had just been renovated, so there were still few reviews, but I highly recommend it to anyone interested.
