In June 2023, I was in Wakkanai City in Hokkaido. I embarked on a solo journey like a kite with a broken string, leaving my job behind. After spending a night in Sapporo, I visited Utashinai City where I spent my elementary school years, stayed overnight in Takikawa, and then in Nakagawa Town where I was born. It was a nostalgic and enjoyable experience. Now, bid farewell by the innkeeper, I set off for Wakkanai today. Along the way, I thought about stopping for coffee and planning various things. However, the 90-minute drive to Wakkanai was uneventful! Just endless pasture lands, silos, and such scenery. I was driving at 70km/h on a road where hardly anyone else was driving, and I was constantly being tailgated, but I prioritized safe driving. At one point, I was filming the scenery when a road construction worker approached me and warned me, "Be careful! There might be bears around!" That scared me, so I just kept driving non-stop. When I finally entered Wakkanai, the joy of discovering a Seicomart was indescribable! The coffee tasted exceptional. I had to buy some souvenirs! I first bought various items at the local market. However, as someone from Sakaiminato, I realized that most of the items available here could be bought locally. The only things missing were hair crabs and king crabs, which were quite expensive here. But I found a large one that my friend liked, so I sent scallops and hokke fish as a gift, which is just between us. I also bought various snacks and had them sent together. It was a bit pricey, but such markets are invaluable. It was a lifesaver.
