On April 3, 2022, my family of four visited Hakodate for a quick trip to pay respects at the family grave. On the first night, I was given a break from family time and caught up with an old friend. Normally, we would dine at Sushi Shinzen, but the owner was unwell and the restaurant was closed. So, I left the restaurant choice to my friend in Hakodate, and ended up at this place that had been a topic of discussion among our group. The building, an old clinic renovated in 1934, had a Western-style design typical of Hakodate (a Japanese craftsman's imitation of Western architecture). The atmosphere was calm and the interior design showed attention to detail. The three of us started with a toast with beer, Heartland was delicious. The dishes were served slowly, matching the pace of our conversation and dining. The service was excellent, with great attention to detail. One of my friends had driven to the restaurant, so the two of us decided to have some wine. Starting from the appetizer of crab and beet mousse, we were already in high spirits. The emphasis on ingredients with sauces as accents made dishes like the pumpkin and king oyster mushrooms from Morimachi stand out. The Hakodate-caught cod as the main dish was particularly memorable. As we continued to enjoy our wine, we ended up requesting a cheese platter, and ended up finishing three decanters (*_*). For dessert, we were surprised with a wide selection to choose from. It was a truly memorable night in Hakodate. I never knew there was such a traditional French restaurant that loves Hakodate so much. Whether for a special occasion, a treat for yourself, or a night out in Hakodate, I highly recommend this French restaurant. I will definitely visit again.

This is a lunch review for when I returned to Hakodate on 20230917. It is a popular restaurant where you can enjoy authentic French cuisine in a retro-style setting dating back to the Meiji era. There are two parking spaces available next to the restaurant. This time, I chose the 3,300 yen (including tax) course. The appetizer consisted of a crab leg placed on cauliflower mousse, topped with a rich gel made from crab and lobster. The taste was rich and delicious. The cold soup was made with corn and soy milk, with the corn being rich and served in a chilled bowl with a cold spoon. The French bread, served hot, had a strong wheat flour aroma and paired excellently with butter. The main course, a chicken dish, was steamed with tea and had a great harmony with the sauce, complemented by locally grown peppers from Hokuto. For dessert, I chose an apricot cake and baked custard pudding from a variety of options, accompanied by cassis sherbet. I selected a tea blend of hojicha and grapefruit, which paired well with the sweetness of the dessert and provided a refreshing finish. Despite being almost fully booked, this popular restaurant offers high-quality French cuisine with a wide selection of desserts, making it a recommended choice for women.

My wife made a reservation for my birthday. I was satisfied and impressed from beginning to end. The dishes were refined and each one showed a lot of attention to detail. For dessert, there were dozens of options on a cart that you could choose from yourself. There were so many options that I couldn't remember the descriptions of the ones at the beginning... Anyway, I think the quality of the food at this price is unparalleled. It was a very memorable experience.

I want to visit a special restaurant on a special day. Enjoying French cuisine in a historic setting is truly exhilarating. The dish of duck with Manganji peppers was delicious, with the tender duck complemented by a rich sauce and the bitterness of the peppers. When it comes to choosing three desserts from a wide selection, it's quite a dilemma.

I suddenly had a 3-day weekend off, so I decided to go to Hakodate. Since I hastily planned this trip a couple of days ago, I only booked a hotel and forgot to make a reservation for lunch. So, I called a restaurant that I was interested in on the day itself to check for availability. Despite it being a holiday and feeling discouraged after a few failed attempts, I decided to give Karakusa-kan a try. They kindly accepted my request for their 3000 yen chicken-focused course menu. The restaurant is a French cuisine establishment located in a beautifully renovated old Western-style building with a charming retro atmosphere. The course I had included consomme jelly with crab mousse, chilled pumpkin soup, and marinated Hokkaido chicken wrapped in tea-infused sauce, which were all delicious and perfect for summer. The dessert selection from the dessert trolley was a delightful surprise, with 20 options to choose from, and I could pick 3. It was a great experience dining in a full but spacious restaurant, enjoying a leisurely and satisfying lunch. Despite the impromptu visit, it turned out to be a big hit! Hakodate has many great French and Italian restaurants. Highly recommended!

It is not easy to find a shop in Hokkaido where the Hokkaido style is rooted and infection control measures are firmly in place. Moreover, when it comes to choosing a place with your favorite food and atmosphere, it becomes even more difficult. However, Tangsoukan is a delightful restaurant that meets both of these requirements. Located just a short walk from Aoyagi bus stop, it is in a quiet residential area close to Hakodate Park. The house, built in the early Showa period, has a lovely exterior that symbolizes the chic Hakodate style. The atmosphere somehow reminds me of Yokohama, and I simply "like" it without any reason. The cuisine is only available in courses, and on this day, I reserved the double main course. Here is what I had: - Appetizer: Crab and sake lees mousse with crustacean jelly - Soup: Hakodate mountain red turnip soup with olive oil, sour cream, and black pepper - Fish: Hakodate salmon wrapped in taro mousse with dried tomato sauce and basil herb sauce - Meat: Tokachi pork shoulder loin with grilled king shiitake and black vinegar sauce - Dessert Wagon: Choose 3 desserts from a selection of 13 The restaurant also puts a lot of effort into infection control measures, such as recommending mask-wearing during meals and in the restroom, providing a sense of security. The wine selection is easy to choose from, with detailed descriptions on the menu. The staff are also very attentive and considerate, making recommendations based on the food menu. Glass wines start from around 900 yen, and there are also 500ml decanters available. Today's drink selection included a 2018 Burgundy Aligote from Dominique Laurent and a 2017 Chateau Petit Freylon Cuvee.

At exactly 12 o'clock, when I searched for the restaurant, it said the opening hours were 11:30, but it is actually 12, so be careful. They offer three types of lunch options: 2000 yen, 3000 yen, and 4500 yen. This time, I chose the middle option of 3000 yen. The course included appetizer (jelly), seasonal soup (mushroom), main dish (chicken), dessert from the dessert trolley (choose 3 out of 12 options), and post-meal tea (coffee, black tea, herbal tea). They have a wide selection of drinks, including the rare Nogakuzo wine. The post-meal tea was black tea and the desserts included compote, tart, and terrine. Overall, the food was stable and classic French cuisine. It wasn't outstandingly delicious, but it had a taste that would appeal to everyone. The dessert trolley was a nice touch as it added an element of fun to the meal. The service was average, not bad. Good service is important for French cuisine restaurants. The atmosphere was very nice, and the customers included families, couples, and various other groups. It seems like a restaurant suitable for various occasions. The prices are also on the casual side. Thank you for the meal.

I had a reservation at the restaurant "望楼noguchi" on my way from Sapporo to Hakodate. I remembered this place from a previous dinner and decided to make a same-day reservation. I couldn't make an online reservation, so I called the restaurant early but couldn't get through. However, they called me back. I chose the 3000 yen lunch course, selecting fish over meat. The lunch included salmon carpaccio, pumpkin and Earl Grey soup, salmon confit with fresh vegetables, and a choice of three desserts from a dessert cart. The portion and taste were good, but I felt that the presentation of the main dish lacked a bit of elegance. Overall, I enjoyed the experience and thought that the highest-priced course for lunch or a dinner course would have been more satisfying. The restaurant is a hidden gem in a residential area near the Hakodate Ropeway, with a nice atmosphere that is perfect for a date. 💕

In Aoiwagi-cho, French restaurant Karakusakan offers a reasonably priced and delicious lunch with appetizers, soup, hot bread, a main meat dish, and a dessert. The exterior, interior, and service of the restaurant are all very satisfying! #Hakodate #Aoiwagi-cho #Karakusa

It was my birthday, so my partner and I decided to visit Hakodate for the first time in a long time. We often go to Otaru, but it had been about 9 years since we last visited Hakodate. We found a stylish restaurant called "Karakusa-kan" near our accommodation, where we could stop by on our way back. I chose this place because I knew my partner would definitely love something there. The atmosphere was cozy and chic, with a beautiful Western-style building. We took a bus to the nearest stop and walked through the snow-covered streets to reach the restaurant. It was a bit slippery, so we had to be careful. The winter scenery in Hakodate was truly enchanting. The food at the restaurant was a delightful mix of Western and Japanese flavors. We enjoyed dishes like assorted appetizers, smoked salmon mousse, and Hakodate daikon soup. The highlight was the dessert selection, where we could choose three items from a variety of options. It was a delightful and satisfying dining experience.

This is a French restaurant located in Aoyagi-cho, Hakodate. The western part of Hakodate is a place that both my partner and I love. My partner had been here before a while back, and this time we were invited by our boss, so it was my first visit. The exterior of the restaurant was lovely, and as soon as we stepped inside, we entered a calm and relaxing space where time seemed to slow down. Appetizer platter Soup Fish dish Meat dish Bread selection Dessert from the dessert cart After-meal tea We were treated to the full course menu above. On this day, the soup was Vichyssoise, the fish dish was steamed Babaka ray from Hakodate, and the meat dish was roasted duck with Fukuda Farm king mushrooms. The appetizer carpaccio with a refreshing sauce was very delicious. The bread, made from local wheat "Haru yo Koi," was delightful. Vapour in French means "steam," and the local fish was cooked to perfection and very satisfying. The meat was tender, and the king mushrooms had a fantastic flavor. For dessert, we could choose three from the daily selection on the dessert cart. They all looked so delicious that I had a hard time deciding. The cake was just the right amount of sweetness and truly delicious. Everyone wanted to buy some cake to take home! I would love to visit this restaurant again. Thank you for the wonderful meal.

I was feeling a little hungry, so I took a quick break between work and enjoyed a slice of chiffon cake and crème brûlée. The sweet treats really hit the spot for my tired body. I am grateful to the staff at the shop who provided such delicious desserts, and now I am ready to tackle my next task. It was really delicious, thank you for the meal!

This is a French restaurant located in an old Western-style building in Hakodate City. I had the lunch course, which was carefully prepared and beautifully presented. The atmosphere of the building is also nice, and the service from the lady with the dessert trolley was lovely. I would like to visit again in the evening.

The best restaurant I've eaten at in the past 4 years is Shapanesque. The low-salt cooking and reconstruction in a nouveau style still feel like they're somewhat lost. Maybe it's because they're not established yet? I feel like it might be better to eat traditional Japanese cuisine if that's the case. French cuisine is also popular and constantly changing, influenced by competition. I don't want to fall for simplistic marketing tactics. I want to eat something that is made better than anyone else, not just created. The wine is good too. The combination of Riedel and SCHOTT ZWIESEL glasses worked well in a restaurant in Sapporo. On the way back, I stopped by the children's park in Hakodate for the first time in over 60 years and was surprised to see that some of the old attractions were still there. Hakodate has many delicious restaurants, making it difficult to choose. I visited a highly rated restaurant that was so busy I couldn't even make a reservation. I thought about not leaving a review, but good food always resonates with me. I regret leaving a review, but the bill was mostly just for drinks, as usual. After all, I am a wine enthusiast.

I took a streetcar to Aoiyagi-cho. It seems that this place is the filming location for "Kitchen". Oh, so they filmed it in Hakodate. The building was built in the 10th year of Showa and is relatively new. It serves French cuisine, but the lunch prices are quite reasonable. The madam who serves is nice and not too intrusive, which I like. Various fish appetizers are served first, and I really enjoyed them. The fish itself is delicious, making me feel glad to be in Hokkaido. The warm bread was also tasty. For the main dish, I chose cod. I thought cod would be delicious in the north. It was served with cabbage and bones intact. It was quite tasty, but I started to get a little bored towards the end. Maybe if the cabbage was layered like a mille-feuille, it would be better. But it was interesting to try cod prepared this way since I've never had it before. There were so many dessert options to choose from, and they were all delicious! The nostalgic atmosphere of the building made the dining experience enjoyable. It might be gone by tomorrow, so it was a special moment during my trip.
