超大食漢
Second breakfast during my stay in Sapporo. Since my hotel is right next to Nijo Market, I decided to go back there again. Originally, I had planned to go to a different restaurant, but when I passed by this restaurant and saw that they not only had grilled fish but also individual hot pot set meals, I immediately changed my plans and went in. However, the name of the restaurant, "Kanikosen," gave me pause. Even though I'm not a bookworm, hearing "Kanikosen" made me think of that tragic masterpiece depicting harsh working conditions, and it didn't seem like a suitable name for a dining establishment. The interior had a rather plain and simple cafeteria-like atmosphere. I sat at the counter, as I was the only customer there, and ordered the crab hot pot, crab and salmon rice bowl set, and grilled Okhotsk Atka mackerel. Later, I also ordered the crab miso soup because it caught my eye. The food took quite a while to be served, perhaps because they had just opened. The background music playing in the restaurant was fast-paced Western music, which didn't quite match the atmosphere. Although it's not my favorite, I feel like Kayama Yuzo's songs would have been more fitting here. After about 15 minutes, the food was finally served. The grilled Okhotsk Atka mackerel had a satisfying portion size and perfect fattiness. The crab hot pot also had surprisingly meaty crab pieces. However, I was expecting a salty broth for the hot pot, but it turned out to be miso-based, which clashed with the crab miso soup I ordered. The hot pot had a very strong miso flavor, while the crab miso soup was quite light. I would have preferred the opposite. Nevertheless, I was satisfied with the opportunity to enjoy Hokkaido ingredients and get my veggies in with the hot pot. The crab and salmon rice bowl, although overshadowed by the hot pot, was also quite good. Payment was cashless. It was a random find, but I was quite pleased with my meal.
