This place is amazing, I'm totally hooked. I've been coming to Hokkaido for business trips for 10 years. I've tried various Genghis Khan places and thought I knew where the good ones were. However, when I visited this place for the first time in October, I fell in love with its delicious food and hospitality. It's now December 14th, my last Hokkaido trip of the year. With one client and three of us, we went to a chicken restaurant for the first course, then to this place for the second course - more meat! We ordered the "shoulder loin," "thigh," and "yukhoe." The appetizer was that "lamb shabu-shabu"! The tender lamb with no strong taste. It's so healthy to eat it with vegetables! The shoulder loin has the perfect balance of fat and meat quality. Cooked just right, in a medium-rare state, it bursts with the deliciousness of lamb. So good! Not too heavy, you can eat as much as you want. The thigh, with less fat, is more meaty and perfect for us guys! They also have liver sashimi and yukhoe, which show the direct deliciousness of raw lamb meat. When we left, we were treated with their usual hospitality. "Hot wine for you~♡" That's it. Walking on the cold nights of Hokkaido, sipping hot wine on Tanuki Koji Street, combined with the earlier deliciousness, warms the heart and brings peace. I'll definitely come back next year! Shibetsu BBQ is the best! (^^♪

In October 2021, during my trip to Hokkaido, I visited a barbecue restaurant called "Shibetsu Barbecue" in Sapporo. It was my first time visiting this restaurant. We arrived for lunch during a late hour, and the restaurant was quite empty with only two other groups of customers. We were seated at a table and I immediately felt the need to replenish with some alcohol after walking quite a bit to get there.
This restaurant primarily uses Suffolk breed sheep from Hokkaido for their barbecue dishes. I was surprised to find out that they use charcoal for grilling. Unfortunately, due to supply reasons, not all the meat was sourced locally. The popular No.2 choice, the lamb leg, was the only Hokkaido-sourced meat we ordered that day. The No.1 choice, lamb shoulder, was actually from Australia.
We started with a lamb shabu-shabu appetizer, which was surprisingly delicious. The lamb shoulder from Australia had no gamey taste and was quite light and tasty. I ended up ordering more of it. The Hokkaido-sourced lamb leg also had no gamey taste, but I personally preferred the shoulder. We also tried the lamb chops from Australia, which my companion wanted to try. They were good, but nothing special. The lamb shoulder from Australia, a commonly used cut in Genghis Khan dishes, had a bit of a gamey taste, which I didn't mind and ended up finishing.
We also tried the lamb tartare, which was delicious. It seemed like the origin of the meat didn't affect the taste much. This restaurant is not exactly budget-friendly, but it is a great place to enjoy delicious lamb dishes. My companion, who usually can't handle foods with strong flavors, was able to enjoy the lamb meat here. It turned out to be a great choice for us. Bon appétit!

The Genghis Khan (grilled lamb) was delicious. I ordered the 5 kinds assortment, and it was great to be able to enjoy various cuts cooked over charcoal. The staff was friendly and attentive. I was seated at the end of the counter, but unfortunately, the curtain or fabric hanging there had a lot of dust on it.

A lamb restaurant located in Tanuki Koji 7-chome. Despite being called BBQ, it is more similar to yakiniku than Genghis Khan. They specialize in domestic lamb. Recommended dishes include lamb loin, lamb shank, leg, shoulder, harami, yukke, and more. The domestic lamb is delicious. It may not have that "overwhelmingly lamb-like" taste. The hot pot-like appetizer was also good. However, if you come for Genghis Khan, you may be a bit disappointed. According to the Japan BBQ Association, "yakiniku is eaten while grilling, while BBQ is eaten after grilling." So maybe it's more like yakiniku after all...

This is a wonderful restaurant where you can enjoy various parts and varieties of lamb! In addition to the meat, they also offer delicious Hokkaido-produced grilled vegetables and cheese fondue, so you can be fully satisfied. However, some parts or varieties may be sold out, so be careful. When I visited at 6:30 PM, some items were already sold out. The restaurant had its door open, and my friend who doesn't handle heat well was sweating a lot. If you don't like heat, it's a good idea to take precautions before going.

I wanted to go eat sushi but I had a meeting and couldn't make it to Otaru in time, so I decided to take a leisurely stroll through Tanuki Shotengai. As I was walking, I came across Shibetsu Barbecue. They were serving lunch! I suddenly felt like having Genghis Khan (grilled lamb), so I went in and was seated at a table. I ordered the lunch set which included Hokkaido-produced lamb loin and misji, and added some classic lamb. Since it was grilled, I had the impression that vegetables like bean sprouts would be difficult to grill, but it's barbecue after all. If you eat it with the sauce before it's overcooked, you can feel the tenderness and juiciness of the meat. It's also refreshing and doesn't make you feel greasy, even when eaten with rice. It's easy to use lunch compared to dinner. I highly recommend it.

The restaurant does not claim to serve Genghis Khan (Mongolian barbecue), but actually offers lamb yakiniku. If you are looking for Genghis Khan, there are many other restaurants to choose from. However, I don't think this grilled lamb yakiniku restaurant surpasses Genghis Khan. The food is light and easy to eat. Thank you for the meal.

After the Hokkaido Marathon, we had a gathering at this restaurant. We sat at a 4-person table on the second floor with 3 people. The beer we toasted with was a bit warm with the foam falling off, so when I mentioned it, they brought us cold ones. The staff was very enthusiastic in explaining about the lamb from Shibetsu, and even though there were many young customers, the service was very friendly. Just like the Genghis Khan restaurant we went to the day before, it seems like popular places have good customer service. As for the lamb, the local one is recommended due to its rarity. The tenderloin was especially soft and delicious! The drinks were a bit on the pricey side, which might be tough for heavy drinkers, but we really enjoyed the food and drinks! Thank you for the wonderful meal!

Sapporo's famous restaurant, Shibetsu Barbecue, located in Tanuki Koji. It is known for its delicious domestic Suffolk meat. The restaurant uses charcoal in a shichirin grill. There is no air conditioning inside, so sitting in front of the grill in August with an apron on was torture due to the heat. I tried to cook the meat quickly and eat it to leave as soon as possible. However, the Suffolk meat had almost no fat, so it was difficult to cook as it lacked the necessary heat. Also, because it had no fat, the meat was very bland. Honestly, I found Australian meat to be much tastier. It may be similar to how farmed eel is tastier than wild eel. The appetizer costing over 800 yen is too expensive. It did make for an interesting story to tell.

The restaurant has a smoke sucking roaster but it doesn't work well. It's hot inside because of the charcoal and the air conditioning is not effective. The price is high but the satisfaction is low. For 4 people, sharing 6 meat dishes and 2 drinks each costs over 6000 yen per person. The meat is fatty and there are not many edible parts. The staff's training seems lacking as the service is slow, especially with drink orders.

Meat is delicious with many different cuts, but unfortunately, many menu items were sold out. The sauces and spices for grilling were pretty standard, which was disappointing. The service was good despite the restaurant being almost full.

On a hot day in August, I made a reservation for 7:00 PM. The restaurant was fully booked. I had reserved a counter seat, but was seated on the second floor. This seat was not good at all. It was extremely hot. The room temperature was 32°C, and there were many hot coals in front of me, making it feel even hotter. Although there was a fan running, the air didn't reach me. It was so hot that I couldn't enjoy the meal, even though the taste was good. I had to leave after about 40 minutes. I wanted to enjoy delicious Genghis Khan (grilled lamb) during my trip to Sapporo, but going in the middle of summer was not a good idea.

It was a mistake to go to a restaurant without air conditioning on a hot summer day. The heat from the charcoal grill in front of me was unbearable. I ordered the charcoal-grilled lunch set with three different types of meat. The Austrian meat tasted the best to me. I don't usually eat rice, but I was able to finish the rice bowl. Maybe it was the power of the meat? I want to go back when it's cooler next time!

I made a reservation by phone. It's located next to a ramen shop in Tanukikoji 7-chome, which is an easy-to-find place. I ordered using my smartphone. It was my first time at Saffolk. The prices are a bit high, but I nervously placed my order. We were served a hot pot as a starter. It took a while, but it was delicious with vegetables. Due to limited space, we grilled the hormone meat. It was tender and had a good chewiness, with a drinkable flavor. Next, we tried the popular No. 1 lamb loin. We lightly grilled it on both sides to enjoy. It was sweet, tender, and delicious with no unpleasant smell. The fat was just right, making the meat taste even better. We also tried the shoulder loin and liver, but the last order of thigh meat was incredibly tender and tasty! It was so soft and juicy that we thought it might be lamb. The Australian meat was sold out early, and overall, the prices were on the higher side, but the satisfaction level was high. It cost about 6,000 yen per person for four people, so it's reasonably priced. It's nice to visit such a restaurant once in a while!

It was not affordable, but the taste was very satisfying! It's great that you can try not only the basic cuts but also rare cuts. Personally, I loved the lamb. The appetizers were also delicious. I would love to go back when I visit Sapporo again!

I had been curious about this restaurant for a while, and happened to pass by it when it was open for lunch, so I decided to check it out. I ended up ordering too much food. The lamb chops not only looked impressive but tasted amazing! I ordered one for myself, which left me feeling stuffed. I also ordered tongue, loin, and mutton. The appetizer, a kind of miso soup, was quite substantial. There was a mix-up with the rice order, but it turned out fine in the end. There were a few other mix-ups with the order, but the food was delicious so I didn't mind. The place was quite smoky and depending on the timing, you might end up with lively party guests, so it's not really suitable for a date. Thank you for the meal.

Located in Sapporo, Hokkaido, this popular restaurant requires reservations and is a must-visit spot. Smoking is only allowed in designated areas outside. On the first day of my Hokkaido tour, I enjoyed a refreshing highball to start. The appetizer, mix-meat hot pot, and various lamb dishes were all delicious, especially the number one lamb loin, shoulder loin, and kalbi. The lamb chops, although pricey, were worth it as they were all fresh and flavorful. Even if you're not a fan of lamb, you'll enjoy the meat here as it is free of any unpleasant flavors. The highball paired well with the meal. The asparagus was tender and generously sized. I also recommend trying the Inca no Mezame and Hokkaido Akari potatoes. It was a delightful meal of eating, drinking, and enjoying. Thank you for the feast.

The lamb meat was easy to eat and delicious. It was reassuring to receive a bag to avoid the smell, so even if you have plans after eating, it's not a problem. The Suffolk was very delicious, but in the Genghis Khan platter, not all of it was Suffolk, some were of a different variety. I would have preferred to taste all Suffolk menu items if possible.

The style of using charcoal fire and a wire mesh instead of the traditional Genghis Khan iron pot format truly made the lamb meat delicious. However, it was a bit disappointing that my wife, who isn't a fan of lamb, still didn't enjoy the meat from this restaurant even though we had checked beforehand that it should be okay for those who don't like lamb.

I arrived for a late lunch around 12:30 on a regular day. The nearby one-coin ramen shop, Akaboshi, had a line of 6-7 people, so I decided to go to this place instead. Both places are my favorites so no problem. It was quite crowded here too, but they kindly seated me at a table, which made me happy. There was a charcoal grill on the table. I was torn between ordering the Suffolk charcoal-grilled set, but I decided to go with the affordable and delicious Suffolk bowl and a cola today. The food was served promptly, and besides the bowl, there was a small side dish and wakame seaweed soup. The soup was the type commonly found at yakiniku restaurants. The charcoal grill remained hot on the table throughout the meal, causing my forehead to get hot each time I ate, haha. Now, let's dig into the Suffolk bowl! I lightly mixed the egg yolk and the soft lamb meat with the rice and sauce, and it was a perfect match! The colorful vegetables and their textures were also great. The side dish included edamame, okra, and a sticky kombu salad, all of which were delicious and refreshing. The bowl had a generous amount of meat, so I didn't have to worry about leaving any rice behind, which was nice. I finished every last bite in a trance - it was as delicious as ever! I left satisfied. Thank you for the meal! There were many customers enjoying a daytime drink around me, which made me a bit envious. Next time, I might try the Suffolk charcoal-grilled set with an extra half portion of meat for a daytime drink.

In the midst of a street lined with izakayas, there is a shop with a glass entrance that creates an inviting atmosphere. While couples enjoy delicious meat dishes, I wasn't in the mood for BBQ after taking a bath, so I decided to try the Suffolk Don for the first time. I have visited Hokkaido several times, but this was the first time I heard of Suffolk Don. It is a bowl combining shoulder loin with a special Chinese miso-based sauce and egg. The combination of egg and special sauce with the meat was incredibly delicious. Adding the special salt seasoning in the second half was also great. If you want to enjoy lamb meat in a casual way, a bowl is definitely the best choice.

I visited the restaurant because I wanted to eat Genghis Khan (grilled lamb), and the food was delicious. There were many young staff members, creating a lively atmosphere. I sat at the counter and noticed a senior staff member giving instructions to a new employee, who turned out to be taking my order, which made me laugh. While eating Genghis Khan, I felt like having red wine, so I ordered the house red wine. However, it was too cold, and I think it would have been better enjoyed if it was at a slightly warmer temperature with the meat. The restaurant is beautiful, so I recommend it to beginners like me who want to try Genghis Khan.
