I had visited a few times before, but this time I took two friends who were visiting Kamisaki Shoten for the first time! We went on a Sunday around 1 pm.
Location and Crowds: You can technically get there by JR train, but the schedule is not very frequent, so it's better to go by car if possible. We visited after visiting Kamiiso Misaki, and it was extremely crowded. We couldn't park in the store's parking lot and had to park elsewhere. Despite the crowds, people don't stay for too long, so the turnover is relatively good. When we arrived at 1 pm, some items like seafood bowls were already sold out. If you're aiming for a seafood bowl, it's best to visit in the early morning hours.
Food and Taste: I ordered the hokke set meal with less rice and scallop sashimi. The hokke set meal was huge and thick, perfectly grilled, juicy, and not dry. If you like light flavors, you may not even need soy sauce. For an additional 50 yen, I added grated daikon, which was a perfect palate cleanser for the fatty hokke. The scallop sashimi was thickly sliced vertically, giving it a chewy texture. Since it's served raw, there was no fishy or frozen taste. It's a taste that you can only enjoy near the production area, and I recommend trying it if you have the chance to eat raw scallops. It cost 580 yen, which is incredibly cheap considering the quality.
Other Information: The first floor is mainly for selling goods. It's not the typical tourist spot with high prices; rather, it's a shop used by locals where you can buy local seafood at reasonable prices. They also have local sake, wine, snacks, light meals, and locally grown vegetables. It's a great place for food enthusiasts. My companions bought items and had them sent home by frozen delivery, which is cheaper than buying at a touristy market. They also offer shipping services. This area has whisky distilleries and roadside stations, making it a great place to stop by. For tourists driving from outside the area, the area is best visited from early summer to early autumn. If you have the chance, I highly recommend stopping by on a drive and trying their delicious seafood items!
