When you think of Hokkaido, seafood is the first thing that comes to mind. There's also pork bowls and Genghis Khan, but seafood is definitely the highlight. After arriving at Tomakomai Ferry Terminal from Otaru by ferry, I looked for the nearest seafood restaurant. I found this place in what seemed like a market, and even though it was almost closing time, they let me in. The seafood bowl was smaller than I expected from the photos, with not a lot of toppings, but the variety and taste made up for it. Every topping was delicious and I was truly impressed.

I was drawn to a seafood company operated by a crab shop and decided to try their most popular dish, the special Chirashi bowl. The promotional photos showed a luxurious and colorful presentation, but what was served was disappointing. The presentation was sloppy and the amount of salmon roe was significantly less. Perhaps it was because it's targeted towards tourists? The staff seemed to be part-time workers as well. At 5200 yen, I felt it was not worth it. The bowl included crab, salmon, salmon roe, tuna, sea urchin, squid, sweet shrimp, and flying fish roe. The taste was good, and it came with crab miso soup.

After 2 PM, there was a 2-hour wait at the Sanjogai Market, so we decided to walk towards the canal in search of seafood bowls. We managed to slip into Sawazaki Suisan without waiting in line. A woman was working alone and seemed very busy, but the food was incredibly delicious.

I had the crab rice bowl. It was fresh, with firm and delicious meat. It was cold, so the crab miso soup was perfect. The restaurant is small with only a counter, like a Showa-era izakaya, so not suitable for groups. The staff, especially the older brother, was very nice. It seems that the menu prices have recently gone up due to the rising cost of ingredients.

When I came to Otaru, I wanted to try some seafood, but the uni (sea urchin) wasn't in season at the place I had in mind. So, I decided to try a variety of seafood at this place instead. I ordered the Special Chirashi Don, the highest quality seafood bowl they had. The restaurant was small, and I could see them preparing the food right in front of me, which was nice. The bowl had about 10 different types of seafood, with large chunks of crab and thick slices of salmon. Unfortunately, I couldn't have uni since it wasn't in season in Hokkaido, but the portion size was satisfying. I was a bit worried about the quality of the food in such a small place, but I was happy with the meal. The price was a bit high due to it being a tourist area, but I would love to come back and try the uni when it's in season.

We went on our honeymoon and tried the Hanasaki crab for the first time, it was thick and very delicious. The portion size was small, making it suitable for those who eat little. It is also good for food tasting. I love sea urchin and salmon roe, so I was happy to be able to eat a lot of them.

It's been about 5 years since I last visited Otaru. The seafood bowl here is always fresh and delicious. It seems like there are more stores now compared to before. Prices have been gradually increasing, but I still had the sea urchin bowl. I made a mistake and went to the wrong restaurant at Sapporo's Nijo Market, which was disappointing. When it comes to seafood bowls, Otaru is the place to go. It was delicious. Thank you for the meal. I will come again.

This is a seafood bowl restaurant located at a crossroads in Otaru. The taste is typical for a seafood bowl and not particularly impressive. Additionally, the portion size is small and the price is very high, so the cost performance is very poor. I do not recommend it. If you walk a little further towards the Music Box Museum, there are many other shops along the way, so I think it would be better to explore those instead.

Visited on a holiday night in December 2021. The night temperature was around -7°C. It was snowing lightly and the roads were frozen solid. Despite the challenging conditions, I wanted to have seafood since I was in Otaru, so I decided to visit this place around 7 pm. Even though the restaurant was easy to spot from the street, I somehow ended up wandering around in the narrow path and had trouble finding it... haha I ordered the following:
- Special Chirashi Bowl for 3,900 yen. It's said to be the most popular dish here, and even though the price was high, I thought I should go for it since I was in Hokkaido. The dish was beautifully arranged, and I enjoyed watching the meticulous presentation from the counter seat. When the seafood bowl arrived, it was amazing! It was overflowing with freshness! It truly felt like a treasure chest of seafood...! From sea urchin to crab, salmon, and ikura, everything was so fresh and delicious...! The sea urchin was so melt-in-your-mouth... At first, the bowl seemed smaller than I had imagined, but by the time I finished it, I thought the size was just right, haha. They also served a complimentary crab miso soup, which was also delicious! Perhaps they offered it due to the bad weather that day! Thank you for the feast!

I apologize for the harsh criticism, but I must be honest. The atmosphere and service in the restaurant were fine, but the cost performance of the food was extremely poor. I ordered the Special Selection Chirashi for 3900 yen and the Uni Ikura for 4900 yen, but I can't quite put it into words how disappointing it was for that price. The salmon wasn't fatty, the crab was dry, and the uni and ikura, while they may have had the natural flavors of the ingredients, lacked any creativity and became boring quickly. If the rice had been sushi rice, it might have been better. I felt that each dish was worth around 1800 yen. If you're going to spend the same amount, I recommend the sushi lunch course prepared by the chef. I don't think I'll be returning here again. However, the photos of the food look very appetizing, so I have attached them.

I had lunch in Otaru. The Sankaku Market was extremely crowded, so I escaped to the canal area. I randomly found a place to eat and decided to go in because it had good reviews. I ordered the Special Chirashi Bowl for 3,500 yen. The sea urchin was cold, fresh, and easy to eat with no strong taste. The salmon was a bit disappointing as it lacked fat. The shrimp and scallops were sweet and delicious. The crab had a rich flavor, showing why this is a crab-focused restaurant. I enjoyed the texture of the octopus. There was plenty of flying fish roe, but I wish there was more salmon roe. Considering the price, it's a bit expensive. It's typical tourist spot pricing. Thank you for the meal!

When I rode a rickshaw, a cute female rickshaw driver recommended the seafood bowl to me, saying it was delicious. Thank you very much! Since it gets crowded in the evening, I decided to have dinner around 4 pm. I told the staff that I came here because the female rickshaw driver recommended it, and we had a great time chatting. I ordered the recommended dish from the menu: Special Chirashi Bowl for 3,720 yen. It was filled with sea urchin, salmon, salmon roe, flying fish roe, king crab, scallops, sweet shrimp, and octopus. The sea urchin was creamy and sweet, with no fishy taste at all. The salmon, scallops, sweet shrimp, and octopus were all fresh and delicious. The texture of the salmon roe and flying fish roe was also delightful. It was a truly satisfying seafood bowl! The miso soup had crab meat in it, and the broth was made from crab, making it delicious. Thank you for the meal!

I followed a friend to a new restaurant, and the owner has a strong personality. My friend is used to it and handles the owner's talk well. We ordered the popular special chirashi bowl, which includes sea urchin, king crab, shrimp, salmon roe, flying fish roe, seasoned snow crab, scallops, and salmon. It was a bit pricey at 3500 yen, but the seafood was fresh and delicious. Overall, the experience was good despite the owner's eccentricity.

When I went to Otaru with everyone on a business trip, a local recommended this restaurant to us. The small-sized restaurant is divided into two locations. The menu may give the impression of being a bit pricey, but I splurged on the special chirashi bowl. The owner of the restaurant is very service-oriented, with a slightly tsundere attitude. He seems to have a strong commitment to the crab from Kushiro. While telling us various stories, the owner quickly prepares the dish. Before long, the bowl arrived. It was beautifully adorned with a variety of colorful seafood, like a jewel box. The specially selected crab was generously arranged as well. Everything was incredibly fresh and delicious, but what surprised me the most was the occasional crunchy texture. When I asked the owner, he said it was raw clam strings, something that can only be done with freshness. This texture added a great accent. This seafood bowl was by far the most delicious I have ever had!! (・∀・)

A seafood bowl restaurant along the canal in Otaru. The shop is said to be run by a place that processes crab. It is a small shop with only a counter. It seems to attract mainly tourists due to its location. I visited during lunchtime and was able to enter without waiting. The "Uni and Ikura Bowl" cost around 4500 yen and took some time to arrive. Despite being small, the bowl was filled with ingredients. The ikura also had a flavorful taste, but it is recommended to mix it with wasabi and soy sauce on the table. The plentiful ikura and sea urchin were indeed delicious. The rice was not vinegared but still matched well with the toppings. It was tasty without any unpleasant smell. The miso soup that came with it also had crab shells in it. It was delicious. The price is touristy, but you can enjoy a tasty seafood bowl. The fact that you can enter without waiting is also a plus. I also introduced it on my blog. (Link provided)

When it comes to seafood bowls in Otaru, I love uni and crab so I always go for the Uni Taraba Don! There are also other affordable options like seafood bowls, ikura bowls, and salmon bowls. Sazaki Suisan has about 2 locations, but this time I visited the one with the head chef. Their homemade ikura is amazing, so even though I ordered the Uni Taraba Don, they also added some ikura on top for me. The ikura here is plump, not fishy, and delicious! I regret not trying it last time! I also tried the botan shrimp and uni separately because I hadn't had them before. The uni here, made without alum, is sweet and melts in your mouth. Whenever I come to Otaru, I have to visit this place!

It is located about a 10-minute walk from JR Otaru Station. It is at a intersection near the Otaru Canal where people often take group photos. It is a corner called Debauched Alley. When you enter the entrance, you will see that there are only counter seats. There are about 10 seats in total. I looked at the menu on the table and ordered the "Chirashi Don". It was brought to me in about 5 minutes. The ingredients included crab, flying fish roe, salmon, shrimp, salmon roe, and scallops. It had all the popular toppings. I was happy to see salmon instead of tuna. Although the bowl looked small, it was filled with plenty of toppings, so I was very satisfied. The "Chirashi Don" costs 2700 yen including tax. There are many foreign tourists. Despite the small space and language barriers, we were able to enjoy our meal with a sense of mutual understanding and pleasant atmosphere.

This is a seafood bowl restaurant run by a crab shop! There are various bowls available, but the most eye-catching one is the crab bowl! It's a crab feast with crab meat and crab pieces on top! The seasoned crab meat is delicious and the crab pieces are also tasty. This is a recommended place for those who want to enjoy crab. Thank you for the meal.

Unfortunately, it was raining when I went to Otaru for sightseeing. I had heard from a friend that Sazaki Suisan was recommended, so I went there. The shop is very narrow in a letter-shaped layout. I had to wait a bit, but since it was already past lunchtime, I was able to get in soon. I love sea urchin, so I ordered a sea urchin-only dish. I was hoping for a sea urchin deluxe option, but that wasn't available. Nevertheless, the sea urchin serving was generous! I don't eat seaweed, so I asked for it to be excluded. My daughter ordered a combination of sea urchin and crab! We also added some shrimp sashimi. It was quite a luxurious lunch, but we were very satisfied with the delicious food and the reasonable bill in the end!

It was very delicious! This place is also a famous restaurant when it comes to Hokkaido! This luxurious seafood bowl has crab, sea urchin, scallops, sweet shrimp, and salmon roe! Isn't it too extravagant? After eating this, I can't go back to Tokyo. It feels even fresher eating it in Hokkaido, like 50% better. It was so delicious! Eating such a delicious bowl and drinking my favorite beer during the day, I wish I could stay on vacation like this forever, haha. It was really delicious. Thank you!
