In the vicinity of Nijo Market in downtown Sapporo, there is still a hint of Showa retro atmosphere. Although there were noticeable vacant stores, now it has become a spot where exhibitors quickly come in when a space becomes available. I wanted to drink outdoors, but ended up ordering more of the restaurant's specialty hormone and guts inside the cool store. The seasoning was good and the cost performance was decent. This place really suits summer. It was delicious. Thank you for the meal.

Walking around the area near Sapporo Nijo Market, you can spot some interesting neon signs here and there. The nostalgic Showa retro atmosphere is gently floating in the air. Oh, a terrace seat in a hidden alley for just one group is found! This area is known for daytime drinking spots, so some places will be closing soon. It's a summer evening, with a cool breeze creating a delightful mood. A spot with a great atmosphere is discovered. Please, let's go there! Upon arrival, I noticed they serve Premium Malts instead of Sapporo Classic. The master, with a strong passion for meat, shared humorous stories and made the experience enjoyable. Cheers! The limited edition beef liver, recommended beef tongue, popular salt hormone, sagari & kalbi, etc. I enjoyed my Highball and lemon sour, getting tipsy once again today. Relaxing and slowly enjoying the delicious shichirin grilled meat. The cozy interior of the restaurant is also appealing. It was delicious. Thank you for the meal.

If you live near the area of Sosei River East Nijo Market, there is a narrow alley that you must pass through as a shortcut. In the middle of Sessioone and Sosei River Park, there is a hormone shop called Hormon Chop. Sometimes, flyers from MS are thrown in, so I knew that there was a multi-cho there. So, I decided to challenge myself to try it out since I had never eaten multi-cho before.
First, when I entered the shop, it was different from what I expected. I thought it would be a manly shop with a wrestling theme because of the name Chop, but it was not like that at all. There were smokeless chimneys and a wide variety of wines suitable for meat. The toppings of spices were also always available. This gap between my expectations and reality surprised me.
Now, let's talk about the meat. Here it is - the multi-cho. When the multi-cho is grilled, it becomes tender and juicy. Since it is not cut open, it retains its juicy texture. It is grilled with a special seasoning, which adds to its delicious taste. The plump wheat-colored skin is adorable. The liver and other parts, when dipped in the shop's special sauce or salt, are also delicious.
I have always been comfortable with eating offal since my grandfather used to deal with livestock and work with liver and hormones. Although I can no longer taste my grandfather's cooking, I have never had a resistance to eating offal, which has been my pride since I was young. Nowadays, there are many shops with passionate owners and an improved meat-eating environment, far different from my grandfather's time. The processing is excellent, and the ways of enjoying delicious meat have evolved. I felt like being "chopped" by the delicious offal.
Oh, the natural wine was also delicious! That's another point to note!

On 2017/12/04/MON, I visited the Horumon Chop Minami 3-jo store and had a great time. The place had a lot to offer. Recently, I also visited the Kyosei-ya restaurant which was featured as a filming location. As I was thinking about that, my craving for horumon (offal) was ignited. So, on my way back from the factory, I decided to make my first visit to this place located on the Nakakoji street in the Nijo Market. I started off with a beer and the complimentary bean sprout namul was delicious. For the first dish, I went with the basic salt-seasoned horumon. The seasoning on the horumon was so well done that I didn't even need any dipping sauce. The texture was chewy and there was no unpleasant smell, just a perfect balance of flavors. For the second dish, I tried the pork forehead. It's a rare cut with little fat but great meaty texture. The third dish was the guts, with a crunchy texture that was addictive. The fourth dish was the beef skirt, a favorite of mine for its lean red meat. I switched to whiskey highball and tried the fifth dish, the recommended beef liver by the owner. The fresh liver seared on charcoal had an indescribable sense of happiness. Finally, I chose the domestic pork intestines as an extra dish, a favorite of mine after pork skirt. Whether crispy or slightly chewy, the texture was enjoyable. It was a fulfilling pre-holiday night for my stomach and soul. Thank you for the delicious meal.

On a certain weekday, I went to this restaurant with my colleagues. The place is located quietly along a narrow street near Nijo Market. The beer was classic, and the meat was all fresh and satisfying. There were no part-time staff at the restaurant, but we were served our drinks and meat promptly without any wait, and we enjoyed everything until the end. I thought there might be a second floor, but it seems like there is only one floor. Nevertheless, the size was just right, and the homely atmosphere was the best part. I'm not familiar with the different cuts of meat, so I can't provide details, but I recommend this place for small group gatherings. Knowing about a restaurant tucked away in an alley can be quite handy for the organizer. I would like to visit again. Thank you for the wonderful meal!

I realized that I've been eating a lot of yakiniku recently, but I don't feel like my body is getting dirty from eating horumon, so it's still good. I went to Horumon Chop Minami 3-jo with a friend. The name of the restaurant is quite impactful, so many people may know it. There are also branches in Susukino and Kita 40-jo, but this one seemed more like a hidden gem. We were seated at the counter and ordered the Aotei (all-you-can-eat) option since we were hungry. Everything was delicious, so I'll write about it in detail.
- Salted Horumon: Delicious! It lived up to the name of the restaurant. It was great with lemon sauce.
- Miso Horumon: Amazing!! It had a nice flavor, so no need to dip it in sauce. The slightly sweet miso went perfectly with rice.
- Shimachou: Superb! Despite being fatty, it wasn't greasy when eaten. A must-try.
- Seseri: Refreshing! It's nice to also have chicken meat. Seseri goes well with lemon sauce and rice, my recent favorite.
- Sagari: Delicious! While you don't need to dip horumon in yakiniku sauce, Sagari is best enjoyed with it. A classic taste.
- Shika (deer meat)!!! I was surprised but tried it. At first, it seemed like beef, but the manager advised to just sear it lightly. I followed the advice and it was completely different. Searing it brings out the meat's flavor without losing it. Apparently, it's even better in winter.
- Rice: Since the horumon was delicious, I couldn't resist ordering a large serving of rice. I couldn't stop with the carbs.
That's it. Horumon Chop is indeed stylish. It's a mysterious place, not pretentious but stylish in its own way. You can even walk there from the city. It might be closer from Tanuki Koji than Susukino in some cases.

Created in the Istrian market, there is a yakitori shop at the back of Nijo Market. This area is a fierce battlefield for yakitori shops, so you have to serve really delicious yakitori to survive. The shop is small, with only about 20 seats at the counter and tables, and run by a single owner. I received a recommendation for a dish with quail eggs, and ordered yakitori. The beautifully colored yakitori arrived. The recommended dish was chicken wings, and when I checked the menu, I realized that they were quite generous with their pricing. They grilled it vigorously on a shichirin, but the yakitori here is delicious! It is mixed with various cuts, but the thigh meat here is quite good. The thin yakitori also has delicious fatty parts, and the thigh meat has a good texture. The chicken was thick and packed with flavor, and even though it was rare, it had a juicy texture. There is also a sister shop in Susukino, but I felt more relaxed here. In my opinion, the yakitori here is top-notch.

Sapporo Gourmet Tour Day 2! The third stop is Jingisukan-ya for a barbecue in Shibetsu! The first two places were great, so expectations are high here too! For our order, we got the sought-after white liver sashimi, sand liver sashimi, lamb loin, and chicken upper skirt. Overall, the white liver sashimi was authentic and delicious! The sand liver sashimi was tasty! The chicken upper skirt was average, and the lamb loin was decent. The service was okay, but the variety of alcohol was lacking. The sashimi was delicious, and in terms of meat, it was decent considering the cost performance. I will visit again for the sashimi!

It's been a while since I went on a trip to Sapporo. With my craving for horumon (offal) rising, I decided to visit a place on Naka-dori in Nijo Market. The restaurant was small and cozy, with a strong smoke-sucking machine that kept the smell to a minimum. The place was almost full, with a friendly staff member managing both the kitchen and the dining area single-handedly. The horumon dishes were served quickly, almost like a French course meal, giving me time to enjoy grilling the meat slowly. I tried various types of horumon such as regular, maruchou, and shimachou, as well as other dishes like soft throat cartilage, deer meat, and sagari, all of which were delicious. Even though I don't often visit yakiniku or horumon restaurants, I think this place is probably really good. The appetizers and side dishes had interesting flavors and combinations, and the prices were reasonable. I can't think of a reason not to go back. I will definitely visit again for some more horumon!
