Arrived about 10 minutes after the store opened. There were already several other customers waiting outside. - Sanhama Don: 4,900 yen (tax included) A bowl with rice topped with sea urchin, sweet shrimp, and salmon roe. The sea urchin and sweet shrimp were drizzled with soy sauce mixed with wasabi. The sea urchin was creamy and very sweet, the sweet shrimp was plump and sweet, and the salmon roe burst with umami in the mouth. There was plenty of sea urchin, sweet shrimp, and salmon roe on top of the rice. Comes with miso soup and pickles. The miso soup had ingredients like seaweed, wheat gluten, and green onions, and had a rich flavor. This takeout option is the clear favorite. - Zangi: 900 yen (tax included) Five large pieces of zangi. These zangi have a solid salty flavor with the added bonus of the crispy chicken skin.

In the town of Shakotan, there is a famous restaurant called "Jun no Mise" known for its sea urchin dishes, although the season has ended, it is still very popular. They also serve seafood bowls and sashimi. During this season, they offer dishes like salmon roe, abalone, sweet shrimp, and more. The seafood from Shakotan is truly delicious. However, the hidden gem here is the "zangi" (deep-fried chicken). They serve five large zangi pieces that are crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside, seasoned with a salty flavor. It's not too salty, so it's just right. When you take a bite, the juices flow out. Be careful not to burn your mouth. I was a bit worried if I could finish it all, but delicious food always finds a way to be eaten. It would go well with beer too! You can also get it for takeout. The person next to me even asked for zangi as a souvenir. There is a vending machine outside the restaurant where you can also buy seafood and zangi. The staff was friendly and provided excellent service. Thank you for the meal.

I arrived 15 minutes before the 10:30 am opening time at a restaurant located in a residential area off the coast road. It was a bit hard to find, but there were already 10 groups waiting ahead of me. I wrote my name down as the 11th group. There is a parking lot available. About 40 minutes later, I was able to enter the restaurant. You can wait outside on a bench, but it can get very hot in the summer with no shade, so bringing a parasol is a must. I wanted to try the sea urchin bowl, so I ordered the red and white sea urchin bowl. It cost 9,500 yen!!!! It was quite expensive... I had eaten sea urchin bowl in Shakotan about 7 years ago, but the price has tripled. The wave of price increases is truly frightening... However, since I came all the way here, I decided to order it. It was indeed delicious. However, 9,500 yen is still too expensive. The seafood bowl costs 5,400 yen, which is also expensive, but it is much more delicious compared to the famous (but not so tasty) tourist restaurants in Sapporo's Nijo Market. This is how it should be in Hokkaido. I hope Nijo Market will do its best... Otherwise, there won't be any repeat customers among tourists. I want them to serve delicious seafood. Hang in there, Hokkaido!!

So, this summer vacation, I went on a drive to the Shakotan Peninsula. It seemed like I had planned it all out, but my junior colleague who is stationed in Shanghai returned home, so we quickly booked a flight and headed straight to the Shakotan Peninsula. With a local recommendation, we visited this restaurant, but even though it was 3 PM, there was a line outside the shop. As sweat dripped down, my expectations soared...! When we entered the restaurant and looked at the menu, we saw that the Purple Sea Urchin Uni-don was about 5,000 yen? The Bafun Uni and Ni-don were market price, and on this day it was a whopping 9,700 yen! Three years ago, when I had a Bafun Uni Uni-don at a different restaurant, it was around 5,500 yen, so I truly felt the rapid rise in prices firsthand. However! After coming all this way, there was no way I could leave without trying the Bafun Uni! Of course, we ordered the Ni-don, and the rich, melt-in-your-mouth deliciousness filled both my body and soul. I was completely satisfied with the 9,700 yen. The restaurant mainly had tatami seating, and there were various people such as overseas tourist families. Outside, there was an original vending machine where you could exchange items like cod roe for souvenirs. It's a playful restaurant. The highway to Yoichi seems to be extending a bit more. It's a quick drive from New Chitose. If you're going to Sapporo or Otaru, you absolutely must stop by. Especially if you love sea urchin! The Shakotan blue sea is waiting for you! Hopefully, more and more people will gather in Shakotan, bringing more liveliness to the area! Thank you for the delicious meal! It was a feast.

I went around 2 pm on a weekday. It wasn't crowded as it was past lunchtime, but I was told, "We're full!" and had to wait for about 10 minutes. I was seated on the second floor where there were spacious table seats, with only two other groups there. "Full"? Haha. I was really hungry, so I quickly ordered three kinds of seafood rice bowls - sea urchin, salmon roe, and sweet shrimp. I waited for another 40 minutes or so. My friend and I chatted while waiting, but it was a bit disappointing to wait that long with this much space available. The rice bowls were incredibly delicious, and we devoured them quickly. We both felt satisfied and even thought about having another bowl. Thank you for the meal.

Arrived at 8:00 on Sunday. The store opens at 10:20. Left Sapporo at 6:00, but arrived too early... The staff at the restaurant handed me a list and said, "You're early." I wrote my name down and waited in the parking lot. The second group arrived at 8:45. This restaurant where you can eat Uni-don is closer to Sapporo in Shakotan-cho. Visited with 5 people. My sister and her husband drove, and my mother and I tagged along. Nearby, Iwataro Shoten (not visited) had a line of over 10 people from 8:00... There is a vending machine for frozen items like Zangi and Shio-ko beside the parking lot. The parking lot was full before 10:00. We moved in front of the store about 10 minutes before opening. When the store opened, our name was called, and we were guided to a tatami room. I ordered the Uni-don (6500 yen). First, miso soup and pickles were served. It arrived in about 10 minutes. A generous amount of large, firm Uni with a very sweet taste, so delicious!!!! The miso soup had green onions, wakame, and round fu as ingredients. The pickles were cucumber and napa cabbage. It was very satisfying and delicious. However, the price has increased a lot... It was almost double what it was 5 years ago at 3500 yen. I would like to try the Zangi next time.

I arrived at the restaurant at 9 o'clock to eat delicious uni-don. I wrote my name down and waited until 10:15 for the opening. The uni-don arrived and it was delicious! Even without soy sauce and wasabi, it was so tasty! It would be a waste to add them. Ah, it was so delicious!

I had heard that it gets really crowded, so I arrived at 10:00. There were already two groups ahead of us, making us the third group. I thought they would open at 10:30, so we waited, but they actually opened at 10:20. Even though there were only two of us, we were seated at a table for four and were able to enjoy our meal leisurely. The uni bowl on that day was priced at 6,900 yen. The sea urchin was high quality with no fishy taste, and it was incredibly delicious. I didn't plan on drinking, but I couldn't resist and ended up having some. Unfortunately, the red and white uni bowl that I was looking forward to was sold out, but I was still very satisfied with the uni bowl.

I visited a restaurant in Shakotan, Hokkaido, because I recently moved there and felt it was a must to try the sea urchin. The restaurant opens at 10:20 am and usually operates continuously, but if the line of customers doesn't end, they may close the shop once and reopen it at night. They make efforts to avoid running out of stock until the last order at night. On this Saturday, I arrived at 11 am and had to wait for 15 groups ahead of me, so I had to write my name in the waiting list. I was seated at 12:30, so the total waiting time was 1.5 hours, but it was convenient not to have to physically wait in line. I visited with one other person and ordered the Red and White Sea Urchin Bowl (7,800 yen tax included), the Kamidane Bowl (1,450 yen), and the Zangi (900 yen). The sea urchin was quite expensive this year, and the prices here were also higher. The Bafun sea urchin, in particular, was incredibly expensive. However, the taste was exceptional! The sea urchin was rich and full of intense umami flavor. It's definitely worth trying at least once. Personally, I found the Kitamura purple sea urchin to be sufficient as the Bafun sea urchin was too expensive. Next time, I'll try the white sea urchin bowl. The Kamidane bowl was delicious with crunchy shrimp. The rice went well with the sweet and rich sauce. Besides the sea urchin bowl, other dishes were also tasty. The Zangi was a specialty, but it was just average, a standard fried chicken. The total cost was 10,150 yen for two people. There are many restaurants in Shakotan, so I plan to explore various ones while living here. Thank you for the meal.

I went on a spring drive to the United States. I came to this restaurant to try the cherry salmon that was featured in the April issue of Jalan. I arrived 10 minutes after opening and there was no wait. We got a nice seat on the second floor with a good view. The cherry salmon was fluffy and delicious. The fried chicken was juicy and tasty.

A restaurant in Shakotan that serves seafood bowls, Shakotan bowls, and Zangi. You can enjoy fresh seafood bowls and set meals made with seasonal local ingredients. During sea urchin season, you can have a sea urchin-filled seafood bowl. The most popular Zangi is big and hearty. If you want to try sea urchin in Shakotan, this is the place to go! #HokkaidoGourmet #HokkaidoRestaurant #ShakotanRestaurant #ShakotanGourmet #Jun'sRestaurant #SeafoodRestaurant #SetMealRestaurant #79Restaurant #April20th

Due to various circumstances, I couldn't visit on an empty stomach, but my wife had the three-color bowl, and I had the famous Zangi set meal. We were able to enjoy the sea urchin until September 4th, so we were just in time to try the sea urchin from Shakotan! The Zangi was also large, with a simple crispy seasoning that was delicious.

In Sapporo, I rented a bike and rode through the mountains and along the coast, passing by Ogon Misaki and arriving in Shakotan in about 1.5 hours, covering a distance of around 80 kilometers. I ordered the summer limited edition "Shakotan Don" to try the sea urchin. The bowl consisted of abalone, salmon roe, and sea urchin. It was so rich in flavor that it didn't even need soy sauce. Despite being luxurious, I finished every last bite. It was definitely worth the trip. Thank you for the delicious meal.

In the summer, I decided to go all the way to Shikotsu for some sea urchin rice bowl. My favorite restaurant had closed down this year, so I had to find a new place to eat. I decided to avoid a certain famous restaurant and try a different one instead. Luckily, it wasn't too crowded since it was a weekday and past lunchtime. When I looked at the menu, I noticed that the prices were higher than I expected. Apparently, sea urchin prices had gone up due to various reasons. I ended up ordering a three-color rice bowl with ikura, sea urchin, and abalone or sweet shrimp. The price was around 5000 yen, which was a bit more than I had planned to spend. The taste was amazing. The sea urchin was so rich and flavorful that the amount in the three-color bowl was more than enough to satisfy me. The abalone was sweet and had a nice texture that was both crunchy and tender. I can't even describe how delicious it was. I also took some fried chicken to go, which was also incredibly tasty. I realized that this restaurant must serve delicious food no matter what you order. Thank you for the wonderful meal!

On the first day of the Obon holiday on August 11, with clear skies in midsummer, I set out on a drive to Shakotan, looking forward to enjoying the "in-season" food and scenery. Despite arriving non-stop from Sapporo before opening, the parking lot was already full, and there was a long wait to enter the highly popular restaurant. Under the scorching sun and parasols, we passed the time chatting and watching the fluttering butterflies, sparrows, and other insects until we finally entered an hour and a half later. - Uni Donburi (Sea urchin bowl) 5,800 yen - Three-color Donburi 4,400 yen I opted for the Three-color Donburi. The sea urchin during this season was incredibly soft and had a delicious sweetness without any off-flavors. The scallops were fresh and crunchy, and while the salmon roe wasn't the freshest, it was still good. The rice was white rice. It seemed that the most popular dish at this restaurant was the Zangi (fried chicken), as many around us were ordering it a la carte. It looked big and delicious, so I couldn't help but feel a bit of regret. Overall, I was very satisfied with the meal, although I am a bit concerned about the increasing prices as the years go by. In a world of rising prices, it may be inevitable, but I feel that around 4,000 yen would be a more reasonable price for a Murasaki Uni Donburi. The combination of in-season sea urchin and the Shakotan blue sea is the ultimate duo in midsummer. My taste buds, eyes, and heart were all in ecstasy. Very good!

I visited this restaurant in August 2022 when the sea urchin from Shakotan is at its best. It was very crowded as expected. We were seated on the second floor, in a spacious tatami room suitable for families and groups. I ordered a sea urchin bowl and it was even more generous than I had imagined. The sea urchin was sweet, rich, and smooth, incredibly delicious. After this, I visited Cape Kamui for the first time and was amazed by the unbelievably blue sea. Sea urchins grown in such a sea are truly exceptional.

In search of the seasonal "Uni-don," I headed to Shakotan, known for its blue sea. I decided to dine at the popular restaurant called "Junnote." Despite it being a weekday, there was a 20-minute wait. The Uni-don I was looking for was priced at a hefty 5,000 yen. I hesitated for a moment, but decided to treat myself as a reward. I remembered a similar experience from my student days over 30 years ago when it was priced at 2,500 yen. My companion ordered the "Zangi set meal" to share with me. The Uni-don arrived first in a large bowl with plenty of Uni on top, resembling a gem from the sea of Hokkaido. It was beautiful! The rich flavor of the Uni was irresistible and delicious! It was worth the wait. The "Zangi set meal" was also generous in portion size. The hot Zangi had a flavorful marinade and was delicious. Without the temptation of the Uni-don, this Zangi set meal could have easily been the star. The menu even apologized for the high price of Uni, but despite that, the Uni from Shakotan was delicious! I left satisfied. Later, I visited the Shakotan Blue at Cape Kamui, which was also fantastic!

On October 14, the natural abalone fishing in Shakotan is from October to December. Accordingly, the Shakotan bowls are divided into summer and winter versions. I am also interested in the Shakotan Treasure Box, which has been on sale since September, and I am heading to Shakotan Mikkoku. This is my first visit to Jun no Mise, which is located just a minute's walk from Tamura Iwataro Shoten, where I usually visit during the summer. This shop is also a must-visit during the sea urchin season. They offer a variety of seafood bowls, Shakotan zangi, and set meals. The Shakotan bowl includes fresh Ezo abalone, salmon roe, and sweet shrimp. The fresh abalone is firm and chewy, with a hint of seaweed flavor. The salmon roe is in season and has a basic soy sauce-based seasoning, with a pleasant chewy texture. The sweet shrimp, famous in Rumoi, is also delicious in Yoichi and Shakotan. The small yet sweet and sticky shrimp is best enjoyed with wasabi soy sauce. My companion ordered the Shakotan Treasure Box, which includes steamed sea urchin and simmered abalone. Although it doesn't compare to fresh sea urchin, it still tastes great! The slight sweetness enhances the rice. The simmered abalone, while lacking the firm texture of fresh abalone, is still delicious. Soft and well-seasoned, it is a different experience from fresh abalone and is preferred by many. Shakotan zangi is a must-try at Jun no Mise. When you bite into the crispy skin, the juicy meat inside oozes out. The simple salt-based seasoning complements the chewy chicken meat, which is quite delicious. This might just be my number one zangi! While I used to only visit Mikkoku in the summer, it looks like I'll be going at other times of the year as well. Thank you for the meal!

I visited this restaurant wanting to eat Uni in season. Due to the consecutive holidays, I arrived around 12:40 and had to wait for 12 groups ahead of me. I finally got seated around 14:30. I ordered the Akashiro Uni Don for 6,900 yen. The Uni was piled so high that you couldn't see the rice underneath, but it didn't quite meet my expectations. It wasn't exactly lacking in Uni compared to the amount of rice, but I wish they wouldn't serve it with pickled ginger. If you accidentally eat the ginger with the Uni, it overpowers the Uni's flavor. The Bafun Uni was rich and sweet, while the Murasaki Uni was a bit more mild, but both were delicious. My companion had the Zangi set meal, which seemed to be made with twisted chicken rather than young chicken. The texture was firm and had a good taste, leaving a stronger impression than the Uni. Honestly, for 6,900 yen, you could get a decent Uni Don in Tokyo, so the cost performance was a bit lacking. However, the experience of eating Uni in the middle of summer in Shakotan Town is unique and valuable, so it might be worth trying at least once.

Sea urchin season has started! So we went right away. This time, it was my husband's choice. We arrived a little before the opening time, but there were already 15 people ahead of us. A 2-hour wait. We walked to the beach and played with the kids while we waited. We enjoyed the sea urchin bowl. The person at the next table seemed to be a fisherman. They seemed surprised by how crowded it was. They ordered the Zangi set meal, which looked delicious, so we ordered it to go. It was a hot day, so we ate it on the way home, hence no photos. Thank you for the meal.

A distant but enticing restaurant. In the summer, people from Sapporo flock to this place to eat uni-don. Their uni-don is famous. The zangi is also delicious - crispy on the outside, juicy on the inside, and seasoned with salt. You can keep eating without getting tired of it. When you come here, you'll be torn between having zangi or uni-don.
