超大食漢
When walking along Tanukikoji Street, I came across this restaurant that exudes a Showa era vibe in its name and appearance. However, there was also a sense of artificiality that caught my attention. Upon researching, I found out that it is operated by a chain restaurant company that aims to provide authentic Chinese cuisine with a retro world view. Intrigued, I decided to visit and ordered without any prior knowledge, opting for their specialty dishes like "Mao Zedong Lamb Chops," "Rattan," and "Famous. Potato Mousse." The dishes that arrived were quite visually striking, with the spicy Rattan and Lamb Chops contrasting with the mild Tomato and Egg Stir-fry and Potato Mousse. The Potato Mousse, a mashed potato and minced meat dish, was surprisingly good. Unexpectedly, the Corn Spice Fritters were extremely salty, making me quite thirsty - a perfect accompaniment for beer. Next, the Lamb Chops arrived with an overwhelming amount of spices labeled as "secret seasoning," but the excessive saltiness overpowered the flavor of the lamb. It seemed like I would be thirsty until bedtime tonight. While the unique experience of trying the Lamb Chops was interesting, I doubt I would come back for more. Lastly, the Rattan was oily and greasy, with the saltiness overpowering the spiciness. Although it lacked the satisfying noodle texture of a proper noodle dish, I still enjoyed the spicy soup and ingredients, especially the three large oysters in the "Oyster and Seafood" version I chose. As I ate, the spices from the Lamb Chops that were hidden by the salt seemed to combine with the Rattan's spices, causing me to break out in a sweat. Ultimately, I left some soup behind and finished the meal. With the Lamb Chops alone costing 2,000 yen for two, the total bill came to almost 7,000 yen. Despite the retro vibe, the prices seemed slightly high for the present Reiwa era.
