Just a 4-minute walk from Tsukiji Market Station, I visited the tuna bowl specialty shop "Kaigen" for the first time in a year and a half, part of the "Don Hyakumeiten" series vol.67. This shop is directly operated by the high-end tuna wholesaler "Yamayuki," well-known for the New Year's tuna auction. I arrived around 11:15 am on a weekday and was the 5th in line. I was able to enter the shop in about 15 minutes. I ordered the ultimate Kaigen tuna bowl for 4,000 yen. Along with grated yam, tuna side dish, and tuna collagen soup, a visually beautiful tuna bowl was served in about 10 minutes. The fatty tuna slice with a sharp edge melted in my mouth immediately, spreading the deliciousness of the tuna with a rich texture. It was incredibly delicious. There were about 10 slices of different parts like negitoro, offering a substantial volume without any greasiness. You can enjoy the different textures and melting qualities of each part, making it easy to eat. The vinegar rice, known as "shari," was also delicious, and the negitoro had an excellent aroma and was very tasty. I enjoyed every bit until the end. A bowl costs as much as a premium sushi fatty tuna nigiri. The tuna is from "Yamayuki," highly recommended! The shockingly delicious taste makes it ridiculous to eat tuna at other shops!

Indulging in the ultimate tuna bowl! Clearly different from the usual tuna, you can taste the richness and texture of the tuna. I wanted to savor it slowly, but my chopsticks moved too quickly and I finished it early. Thank you for the meal. The side soup, tuna simmered dish, and yam were all delicious!

I visited on Friday at lunchtime and there were about 2 groups waiting. The turnover seems to be quite fast. [What I ordered] - Chef's choice I couldn't decide, so I went with the chef's choice! The tuna was tender and delicious! There was more food than I expected, and I was quite full! For those with a small appetite, it seems they can make the rice portion smaller, which might be a good option haha Personally, I really enjoyed the soup!!

My first time at Tsukiji. I couldn't decide between nigiri sushi or seafood bowl, but ended up choosing the seafood bowl with plenty of tuna (^^) Arrived 30 minutes before opening. We were the 10th group in line. Still, we were able to enter right when they opened, and since we had pre-ordered, everything went smoothly (^^) We had the 2-kind bowl and the marinated bowl. The 2-kind bowl had today's tuna and seafood bowl (regretted not getting the Maguro-taku or another tuna bowl), both with a good amount of tuna and sashimi compared to the rice, which was a bit less, but you could ask for extra rice (^o^) There was also a tuna side dish with grated yam, which was delicious and felt like a good deal. The marinated bowl had thick slices of marinated tuna, including medium fatty tuna, which was also delicious (^o^) The prices were quite reasonable, and it was truly a lucky find for a bowl. Overall, we could enjoy fresh and delicious tuna, it was a great restaurant experience (*^^*)

I forgot to take a photo. Can you tell me which part of the tuna it was? I had delicious tuna after a long time! The ultimate Kaisen maguro donburi for 4,000 yen (with grated yam, tuna side dish). The sashimi set meal with grilled dish, and the Saikyo-yaki of silver cod were also very delicious. I prefer regular rice over vinegared rice.

I visited Yamako because I wanted to eat their tuna bowl. I arrived 30 minutes before opening on Saturday, but there was already a line. I waited for about an hour. I ordered the ultimate tuna bowl. First, I tried the tuna soup, which warmed my hungover body. And the main tuna bowl was delicious as expected. It was fatty, but not greasy or heavy, and you could tell it was high-quality tuna. It felt a bit pricey compared to Minami in Shimizu Port, Shizuoka, but I thought it was definitely worth a visit.

I arrived at the restaurant at 9:30 and there were already 13 people lined up. Before opening, there were about 25 people lined up. There are around 28 seats inside the restaurant. The interior is really stylish and feels very high-end. The seafood bowl was delicious, and I even added extra salmon roe.

I visited a famous seafood bowl restaurant in Tsukiji 10 minutes before opening, and got seated on the second round (about 15 minutes wait). Many foreigners were lining up due to its location in Tsukiji. I ordered the chef's choice bowl, which had various cuts of fish. Since it was labeled as "chef's choice," my expectations were moderate, but it included medium fatty tuna and other cuts, so although it was a bit pricey, I was satisfied with the quality.

Omotesando Onodera is known for its tuna from Yamayuki, but lately I feel like the quality of the tuna and the sushi has been declining. To confirm, I ordered the ultimate dish at Kaigen and it was truly the best - incredible value for money. If Yamayuki is flawless, what is Onodera's tuna all about? It's a completely different level.

I have used this restaurant several times, and this time I decided to visit on a weekday when it was raining, expecting that I wouldn't have to wait in line. As expected, I was able to eat without waiting. I ordered the chef's choice. I have tried various items here before, but I think this one offers the best value for money and allows you to enjoy different cuts of meat. I will continue to visit this place in the future.

Visited with a friend on Saturday at 13:30. It was crowded but we didn't have to wait to be seated. The ultimate maguro donburi and tsuke donburi were sold out. We ordered the 2-kind donburi priced at 3000 yen, which was listed as the 3rd most popular. One person had the seafood donburi and toro taku donburi, while the other had the seafood donburi and maguro omakase donburi. With two small side dishes and miso soup included at this price, it's acceptable. The donburi centered around Oma tuna is a bit luxurious for lunch, but definitely worth trying (^_^).

I ordered the ultimate tuna bowl, which may sound like a lot, but it had large cuts of various parts of tuna, providing a satisfying texture and taste. I appreciated that they had a spray-type soy sauce container to avoid over-saucing. There were also side dishes to complement the tuna, so I ended up spending quite a bit since I enjoyed it with alcohol from the morning.

I visited "Kaigen" for an early lunch at Tsukiji Outer Market. This tuna bowl restaurant opened in the fall of 2021 and is associated with "Yamayuki." They don't take lunch reservations, so I called the day before and was told that lines usually start forming around 9:30 am, depending on the day. I arrived at the restaurant at 9:25 am on a Sunday and there were already 9 people waiting. The line was under the sun, making it quite hot. It would be good to bring a parasol during the hot summer months. As the opening time approached, the line kept growing. Across the street, "Sushikoku" also had a line of 3 restaurants before its 10 am opening, making the area quite crowded. I received the menu around 9:55 am and placed my order as the 10th person around 10:58 am. When the restaurant opened at 10 am, we were seated in order. The L-shaped counter had 3 seats by 6, and there were mostly tables for 2, but they could be pushed together depending on the group size. While solo customers in line were mostly seated at the counter, a few solo customers behind me were seated at tables. The seats had cold green tea and disposable towels. It took about 10 minutes from seating to being served. The tuna bowl I ordered was the "Ultimate Kaigen Tuna Bowl (4000 yen)." It mentioned "three secret cuts," and though I didn't know which cuts exactly, the first bite was overwhelmingly delicious. The medium-fatty tuna (referred to as "kakimi" here) was also excellent. The soy sauce in the tabletop dispenser and spray bottle was the same. The spray bottle was convenient for applying soy sauce to the kakimi. The rice was vinegared, so it's better to pour soy sauce into a small dish and dip the fish there. The tuna that day seemed to be from Oma. The vinegared rice was much tastier than those at local sushi restaurants. It had a strong vinegar taste that I personally really liked. You can ask for extra rice, which comes in a separate bowl, even if you have leftover tuna. The side dish of tuna and simmered daikon was not just an afterthought; it was also delicious. The collagen soup in the bowl cools quickly, so it's best to drink it while it's hot. The extra rice portion was the same as the original, and with the refill, I was quite full. The grated yam topping was delicious when added to the leftover tuna rice as a yamakake bowl. It's an optional menu item, and I recommend trying it with dishes that don't come with it. It's a must-try for those who like grated yam. I felt that 4000 yen was not expensive considering the quality of the tuna bowl available at Tsukiji Outer Market. I might not notice, but winter tuna might be even more delicious. (Visit rating: 3.82)

We arrived a little after 1 PM and had to wait for 2 groups ahead of us. We were seated in about 15 minutes. It's relatively easy to get a table if you avoid the noon rush. We ordered the luxurious selection of 2 types of rice bowls (¥3,000), which included the chef's choice tuna bowl from Miyagi's Shiojiri and today's seafood bowl. The tuna was delicious, with different cuts included in the chef's choice bowl. The seafood bowl was also tasty, with all the fish being fresh. The portion size is about the size of a rice bowl, so I think even women can finish it.

The small dish of simmered tuna and daikon, grated yam soup, clear soup, and tuna bowl. Especially the simmered tuna and daikon had a deeply flavorful and impressive taste. The tuna bowl and grated yam soup were also delicious. I spoke with the chef and he mentioned that tuna will taste even better around September. I would like to revisit when it gets colder. Thank you for the meal.

Visited on a Saturday afternoon. There was quite a long line. Waited for almost an hour. Tea was provided for those waiting in line. Finally got inside and ordered a choice of two rice bowl dishes. Overall, it was delicious, but I would like to come back in cooler weather next time, as I waited in the scorching sun this time.

The tuna is delicious as expected! In the past, there used to be lines, but recently you can get in without waiting. The atmosphere is nice, but maybe because it's summer vacation, almost 80% of the customers are foreigners, so it's starting to lose its hidden gem vibe haha. I think the taste is definitely good!

Visited on Sunday at 10:00. No wait to get in. I thought it would be crowded, but maybe it's only for lunch. Chose the option of two kinds of rice bowls for 3,000 yen, selected the chef's choice tuna and pickled rice bowl. It was a bit pricey, but the soup, grilled dish, grated yam, and other side dishes were delicious. The rice was cooked just right and tasty. The tuna had a good amount of oil on it and was really delicious.

Tsukiji Outer Market is known for its many seafood specialty shops. Even after the market moved to Toyosu, many people still visit the Outer Market, but it has become more geared towards tourists. In such a situation, our restaurant specializes in serving authentic tuna seafood bowls. The operation is managed by none other than the tuna wholesaler "Yamayuki." Among the tuna wholesalers in Toyosu, it is one of the most renowned shops. A yellow paper from Yamayuki, which indicates the origin and fishing method of the tuna, is displayed at the counter. While the quality of the tuna I had at this sushi restaurant that serves Yamayuki's tuna did not quite reach the level of high-end sushi restaurants, I think the cost performance is not bad when considering the tourist spot prices in Tsukiji. There are cheaper seafood bowl shops around, but if you have come all the way to Tsukiji, I would recommend our restaurant even if it is a bit more expensive. Be aware that popular items like the ultimate Kaisen Maguro bowl may sell out by the afternoon.
