2023.06.11 (Sun) 11:30 First Visit Sunny in Asahikawa I felt like drinking delicious ice coffee. I decided to visit Nido, a place I had been curious about for a while. Along the elevated train tracks, in a vintage alley, I found a small shop tucked away. "Welcome." A nice middle-aged master with good personality and taste greeted me. I ordered an iced coffee (500 yen) from the menu board, and a woman who seemed to be the wife and a baby who looked to be less than a year old appeared from the back. "So cute," I couldn't help but wave at the baby girl. She must be the daughter of the couple who run their own business, or maybe she was just in a very good mood today, as she gave me a big smile, a first-time encounter for me. Then, the wife tried putting the baby in a baby bed next to the register, but the baby immediately started to cry, wanting to be held by her mom. The wife hurriedly picked her up and went back to the back, a heartwarming moment. "Here you go. Today's iced coffee is a cold brew from Papua New Guinea." The meticulously made iced coffee came in an original paper cup with a thick and sturdy feel. The logo of a man and a woman on the cup must be the master and his wife. And did a stork bring an angel to this harmonious couple? I looked at the displayed roasted beans and saw my favorite Guatemala City Roast. What impressed me was that all 8 types of roasts were neatly lined up in small glass bottles. Surely, they deliberately put the beans in small bottles so that customers could check the quality and aroma of the beans. The roasted beans for sale must be stored in the back of the shop where the temperature and humidity are stable and there is no direct sunlight. "May I check the aroma?" "Of course, go ahead." With the master's permission, I confirmed the finish of the roasting. It was a uniform roast from every angle, with no variation in the size or shape of the green beans. I opened the lid of the bottle to smell the aroma. Just as I expected, it had a wonderful aroma. I decided right away. Guatemala Atitlan 100g (730 yen) made with organic JAS certified green beans. Customers who purchase coffee beans can get a 50 yen discount on all items for take-out, so the total bill was 1,180 yen, payable with Quick Pay. Now, I returned to my car and took a sip of the iced coffee. Actually, I'm not a fan of the raw bean smell of cold brew coffee, so when I heard it was a cold brew coffee, I was momentarily conflicted. However, after the first sip, all those feelings disappeared. What! This highly aromatic and rich iced coffee! I was ecstatic in the car all by myself. This coffee is amazing! I feel like I've found a wonderful place. I have a feeling that Nido will become a place I will frequent in Asahikawa. I hope that the store logo of Nido will change from a picture of a man and a woman to a picture of a family of three while I continue to visit the place. Thank you, Nido, for the great experience!
