Along the Nakahara Street, there is a unique sushi restaurant called "Bullpen". This standing sushi bar offers Edo-style sushi in a trendy setting. Part of the "Sushirinda" and "Ranmaru" group, Bullpen stands out for its affordable prices. Located about an 11-minute walk from Tokugawa Ginza Station, right in between Tokugawa Ginza and Musashikoyama. The restaurant's concept is inspired by a baseball bullpen, with sushi served like pitches and additional side dishes like "pickoff throws". The interior is modern and stylish, with a wall displaying the menu and a refrigerator for drinks. The background music is mellow hip-hop, creating a relaxed atmosphere. The lunch menu offers two omakase sushi sets priced at 5,000 yen and 7,000 yen. The 5,000 yen set includes 11 pieces of sushi and a soup, with additional dishes like seared bonito, turban shell, and tempura squid. The 7,000 yen set offers a different selection of sushi and sides. The restaurant also has hidden menu items like shrimp with sea urchin and cuttlefish. The recommended sushi on the day of the visit included fatty tuna, horse mackerel, red clam, and more. The sushi was praised for its quality and balance of flavors. The chef, who used to work at Gion Rinda in Kyoto, served the sushi with precision and skill, creating a seamless dining experience despite the standing setting. Overall, Bullpen offers delicious sushi at a reasonable price in a unique and enjoyable atmosphere.

I made a reservation about a month in advance to enjoy delicious sushi with friends. I was expecting a casual sushi experience at a famous restaurant's satellite location, but I was pleasantly surprised by the warmth of the sushi chef's craftsmanship, conversations, and the overall atmosphere of the restaurant. There were slight delays between each sushi serving, but it didn't bother us much as we enjoyed the sake and conversations with the manager and friends. The sushi course may vary depending on the day, so please check the description in the photos. We were all very satisfied and grateful to the restaurant. We will definitely visit again! Thank you for the wonderful meal!

In the Meguro area, when it comes to famous sushi restaurants, "Rinda" and "Ranmaru" are well-known. A new addition to this list is "Bullpen," which opened in 2021 as a branch of these popular restaurants. The unique thing about Bullpen is that you can enjoy high-quality sushi at a standing bar, making it a more affordable option. The secret behind this seems to be the small space of the standing bar, allowing for quick turnover, as well as the fact that young chefs sometimes prepare the sushi, using it as a training ground. The name "Bullpen" seems to be a nod to the baseball term used for warming up before entering the game, signifying that this is a place where chefs hone their skills before becoming top-notch sushi chefs. The locations are in Musashikoyama, Ebara-Nakanobu, and Togoshiginza, all about a 10-minute walk from each other. Reservations are made through LINE, and only course meals are available. Despite being a standing bar, they have recently added seating options. The sushi I tried included: medium fatty tuna, red snapper, Ishigaki scallop, young sea bream, kohada, yellowtail, white shrimp, tamagoyaki, nodoguro, marinated tuna, and scallop. In addition, Bullpen incorporates a baseball theme, allowing for fun interactions like recommending and ordering side dishes. I ordered the bonito tataki. The sushi is made with top-quality ingredients sourced from Toyosu, resulting in amazing flavors. The rice portion is small, so you won't feel too full even after finishing all the sushi (I was only about 4-5 on the fullness scale). This means that while the quality and cost of the ingredients are good, you may need to visit a second restaurant to feel satisfied. The dining experience is quick, lasting about an hour and a half, making it perfect for those looking to enjoy delicious sushi in a short amount of time. Overall, I recommend this restaurant for those who want to savor tasty sushi in a casual setting! Thank you for the meal.

I was finally able to visit the long-awaited bullpen. The starting time is set, and there are two shifts in the evening. I thought it was a standing-eating place, but recently chairs have been provided, which was a pleasant surprise. Drinks are mostly served in bottles or cans, so when I ordered a beer, I was a little surprised to see a can and a glass. The sushi was absolutely delicious, as expected. Is this really only 7000 yen? The rice was just the right temperature, and each topping seemed to have been carefully selected. In particular, the purple sea urchin on top of the squid was the most delicious sea urchin I've ever tasted, I even ordered more. The sweetfish tempura, which can be ordered as an additional dish (separate from the course), was so delicious that I almost wanted to order another one.

I went to lunch for a friend's birthday! The staff greeted us cheerfully and made delicious sushi for us! In addition to the course, there were also a la carte menus available, so we ordered extra botan shrimp and red snapper. It was a very satisfying lunch experience. ◎

SUSHI BULLPEN is a standing sushi restaurant located in Shinagawa-ku, Tokyo. It is not your typical standing sushi restaurant, as it is affiliated with the high-end sushi restaurants "Ranmaru" and "Rinda" near the nearby Fudomae Station. Both of these restaurants offer omakase courses for over 20,000 yen. SUSHI BULLPEN aims to provide high-quality sushi in a more casual setting, allowing young chefs to showcase their skills. The menu items I tried were all delicious. Thank you as always. Menu items: - Medium Fatty Tuna - Red Seabream - Horse Mackerel - Pen Shell - Spear Squid - Shrimp - Spring Child Sea Bream - Striped Jack - Gizzard Shad - Tamagoyaki (Japanese omelette) - Miso Soup - Pickled Tuna - White Shrimp - Kombu-jime (Kelp-marinated fish) - Firefly Squid - Scallop - Conger Eel

On weekends at 6pm (same-day reservation) ■ ¥7000 ■ Orange juice ¥600 ■ Additional order of 3 items ¥4000 - Medium fatty tuna - Ankimo ○ - Seared surf clam - Striped jack fish ○ - Swordtip squid and purple sea urchin ◎ - Deep-fried red snapper ○ (additional) - Octopus vinegar (additional) - Kogane - Tokishirazu - Rolled omelette ◎ - White shrimp ○ - Gizzard shad ◎ - Tuna - Swordtip squid and sea urchin with rice (additional) - Bonito (additional) The temperature of the rice was a bit warm and all the toppings were warm, lacking a bit of contrast. Being part of the Ranmaru group, they do not rely heavily on wasabi, and the seasoning of each topping is excellent and complements the flavors well. The clientele and staff are young and lively, making it a vibrant and energetic restaurant.

The course starting from 13:00 for 7000 yen was impressive with high-quality ingredients. The fatty tuna was light and the horse mackerel was interestingly served with two layers. The atmosphere was great, the drinks were flowing, and before I knew it, the bill was 17000 yen due to the additional orders. But if you don't add more, the restaurant can't use good ingredients, right? It was a great restaurant! Thank you for the meal.

Yasuuma is a sushi restaurant located a short walk from Standing Sushi Bar Musashikoyama and Flag No. 2. It is a standing bar with a capacity for 9 to 10 people. They serve carefully prepared sushi with vinegar rice. The evening course costs 7,000 yen. The taste is on par with high-end restaurants. I definitely need to go back!

I heard that a high-quality and delicious standing sushi restaurant with great cost performance opened in Shinagawa Ward where I used to live as a student, so I visited eagerly. Despite arriving a bit early in the scorching heat, they quickly prepared and seated me. This time, I tried the 5000 yen daytime course. The lineup included: medium fatty tuna, red tilefish, ark shell, horse mackerel, Ken-saki squid, mackerel, young sea bream, egg, lean tuna, small skin, soup, octopus vinegar dish, hidden ball (additional), tuna cheek meat (additional), striped jack, young sea bream, and red vinegar rice. The fresh toppings paired perfectly with the red vinegar rice, making it a very high-quality sushi experience! Among them, the young sea bream and striped jack were exceptional, and I ended up ordering more. It seems that the sushi chef changes depending on the day. However, during our conversation, I found out that the chef who prepared my sushi today is also from Nagano, my hometown, which created a sense of camaraderie. Although I was dining alone this time, the chef's friendly demeanor and engaging conversation made it a wonderful experience. I will definitely bring my wife or friends next time.✨

I finally made it to the series I was really curious about, Bullpen-san! Even though it's standing room only, the staff are very attentive to small children and are very friendly. I started with the medium fatty tuna sushi that I was looking forward to! Not just the fish, but the rice was also to my liking! There is also a wide variety of side dishes, so I will definitely be coming back. Thank you for the feast!!!

I visited a sushi restaurant that was on my list to check out from Instagram. The restaurant, called "Bullpen," had its debut during a day game ⚾️. It is an affiliated store of "Ranmaru" and "Rinda," and serves as a practical training ground for sushi chefs before they go independent. The staff at "Bullpen" were all young and full of energy, and they were very friendly and engaging in conversation. The atmosphere was unique to standing sushi bars, with a close rapport between the customers and the staff. I really love this kind of restaurant. The course I had was 7000 yen and included: *Medium fatty tuna *Sea bream (forgot to take a picture) *Swordtip squid and purple sea urchin *Golden eye snapper (lightly seared) *Gizzard shad *Striped jack *Seared bonito with onion sauce (deception) *Sweet shrimp with egg yolk vinegar sauce *Throat fish seared *Marinated tuna *Egg (additional order) *Sardine *Shinko (young gizzard shad) *Beltfish hand roll *Tuna cheek meat hand roll (hidden ball) *Conger eel This place offers various appetizers, including seared bonito, shell skewers, grilled flat scallops, and marinated octopus. The hidden ball included not only tuna cheek meat but also white shrimp with kelp. I had a great time, feeling full and satisfied with lots of smiles. I will definitely be coming back! Thank you for the delicious meal m(__)m

Four of us went to the night game part 2 and ordered a 7000 yen course each, along with the following items totaling 44,000 yen: 4 beers, medium fatty tuna course, red snapper sashimi, grilled squid tentacles, one cup of sake, boiled octopus, horse mackerel sashimi, seared bonito course, turban shell course, 1 cup of premium sake, squid with sea urchin course, swordfish course, egg course, raw shrimp with kelp course, blackthroat seaperch as a service, cucumber course, miso soup with fish broth, additional red meat, additional fatty tuna, dried gourd roll, fatty tuna and tuna belly tempura, half cup of sake, and conger eel. We also had unlimited delicious pickled ginger and several cups of tea. The charm of this place is definitely the service. They have baseball-themed events, the staff's lively talk and movements, the standing sushi style even with courses, the style of serving canned beer and sake in cups, and the high-quality sushi similar to upscale restaurants like "Ranma" and "Rinda" at less than half the price, making it a great value. It seems to be popular among repeat customers. We had a great time.

Recommended shop: https://gourlet-jp.blogspot.com. The rich taste of sea urchin stands out with the faint aroma of vinegar rice made by combining red vinegar and rice vinegar, and with each bite of white squid, its flavor spreads. @gourlet_jp. 【Authentic sushi made by young craftsmen】. The main store is the famous "Sushi Rinda" in Fudomae (@sushi_rinda). The young craftsmen who learned sushi at this shop have opened "Standing Sushi Bullpen." Just like the name "Bullpen," you can experience the valuable opportunity before the ace takes the mound, and it's just as good as when they're in the game. The course is divided into three parts with a total change of lineup, and there are nine customers surrounding the counter. The first sushi served is medium fatty tuna, which is usually served in the middle of the lineup, but here it's the starting pitcher, signaling the opening. From there, fresh and firm-textured ingredients like Ishigaki clams are lined up in rotation depending on the season and day. The course costs 5,000 yen and 7,000 yen, both of which are satisfying. The items not listed on the menu are called "pick-off" or "hidden ball," revealing a playful side. The craftsmen are dressed in caps and t-shirts, showing the unpretentious atmosphere of the shop. Each of these gestures breaks down the stiffness in the room, gradually melting into one atmosphere and heating up. The satisfaction after finishing the course is similar to the exhilaration after a match. - Dank Sushi 11 pieces -

In the margins of the Honjo district blooms a nameless sky, calling itself "Bullpen." It is a group of artisans who strip themselves bare in the world of standing bars, singing sweet elegies to the endless skulls of those who have sacrificed themselves to the creation of life. These artisans are part of the Sushirinda group. Their souls were scattered as seeds on the baseball field. However, no matter how much time passes, their passion remains intact, weaving a new life through sushi. Clad in old uniforms, they live in the present moment, reflecting the glory of the past. Every move they make adds to the brilliance of the stage. This stage has a price, starting at 7,000 yen and increasing with drinks to around 10,000 yen per person. It is a moment where dreams and reality intersect, a mere symbol. It becomes an altar, and the artisans become priests leading the communication with the gods. As the cosmic stage moves from the ancient field to the present "Bullpen," their melodies remain unchanged, and a new festival begins. Ultimate and primal, the interplay of rest and innovation, where dreams and reality intertwine in an endless variation. Like the stars in the night sky, joy, sorrow, blessings, setbacks, all become one poem, breathing life into the entire space of "Bullpen." When mixed together, the past and future stand still, existing in the same moment. This is the essence of the poetry woven in "Bullpen."

Pullpen-san is able to enjoy authentic high-quality sushi at a standing sushi bar. The variety of fish changes daily, but the sushi is always delicious. The atmosphere was great with few people, allowing for changes in background music and even a birthday celebration at a nearby table. It's a great spot to visit on weekdays when it's not too crowded.

Blog "Tokyu Line, Foodie Walk" https://asante.blog/ ---- This popular restaurant, "Sushi Rinda," which opened in October 2021, was gaining a reputation as a second line of the popular restaurant in Fudomae. On this day, I suddenly felt like eating sushi, so I made a reservation here. I got the last seat, which was at the end of the terrace. The restaurant has about 10 seats in total, including the counter and terrace. As the name suggests, the staff wore baseball uniforms, referred to the appetizers as "steals," and towards the end, they played high-pitched music like a brass band at a baseball stadium. It's a fun place. I visited for the final round at 7:30 PM. I entered the restaurant on time and the match began. The evening course is "Dunk Omakase" for 7,000 yen only. Appetizers and additional orders are available separately. Anyway, I ordered a Black Label beer for 500 yen to relax after work. The "pickled ginger" came out first, and it was quite acidic. There were two types, a lump and thinly sliced, and refills were free. ■ Dunk Omakase + Additional - Medium fatty tuna - Marinated lean tuna - Bonito tataki - [Addition] Needlefish and Kagomma eggplant with miso dressing - Squid tentacle skewer - Sardine - Squid and sea urchin - Seared ark shell - Seared gizzard shad - Blackthroat seaperch - Spot prawn - Egg - [Addition] Fatty tuna with pickled radish For drinks, I added a highball and Kamo Kinshu Karakuchi Natsu Junmai sake. As for the nigiri, the "medium fatty tuna" appeared. From the first bite, I felt that the rice was a bit hard. How well does it go with the topping? Next came "marinated lean tuna," "bonito tataki," and so on in order, but the rice was still hard. It was so hard that it fell apart, like undercooked frozen fried rice... Oh dear. Sushi kept coming out, and there were many great toppings. "Squid and sea urchin," "spot prawn," and "scallop" were also good. However, the rice remained hard until the end. It didn't suit my taste. Perhaps it was unavoidable because I had the last seat, but the terrace is lower than the restaurant counter, yet the counter height is the same, making it very difficult to eat. If possible, aim for a seat at the counter inside. The course is not very filling, so I think ordering additional items like "steals" is necessary. In the end, I had a light meal and drinks, which cost 12,000 yen, but for this price and content at a standing sushi bar, I felt like I would rather sit and eat slowly at a local sushi restaurant. Because the hard rice here didn't suit me until the end. As mentioned earlier, the toppings were not bad, so I felt it was a bit of a shame. Thank you for the meal.

I had been curious about this restaurant since it opened in the neighborhood. It is a standing sushi bar affiliated with "Ranmaru" and "Rinda." The rice was cooked firm for all the sushi, and it was delicious. I had an omakase course of 11 pieces for 7000 yen, including medium fatty tuna, marinated lean tuna, sardine with yuzu, seared sazae, squid with sea urchin, seared nodoguro, sea bream with ankimo, and more. The rice was plentiful and balanced well with the fatty fish. The seared sazae had a sweet and smoky flavor, while the squid with sea urchin had a fluffy texture. The seared nodoguro had a nice charcoal aroma, and the sea bream with ankimo was a good accent without any fishy taste. I also had fried tuna cheek as a snack, which was not greasy. The striped jack felt a bit firm in the rice, while the shrimp and white shrimp were added later (price unknown). The cutlassfish was the most delicious with a fluffy texture and no fishy taste. The eel was also fluffy and had no odor. I had two beers and a whiskey highball, totaling 700 yen, and the bill came to 12,900 yen. It was a satisfying meal, and I enjoyed chatting with a fellow diner who was also dining alone. #sushi #standing sushi bar #Bullpen #Musashikoyama #standing sushi #foodie #foodlover.
