ハラミ串
[April 2023] A friend and reviewer from Osaka came to Tokyo, so I decided to show them around the Asakusa area. We also planned to have lunch in Asakusa. I had asked for their preferences beforehand, but they insisted on trying something typically Asakusa-style. Asakusa is known for sukiyaki, soba, tempura, eel, Russian cuisine, and the most recommended, Edomae sushi! I took them to my favorite spot, Kibun Sushi. Since it's a popular place, we made a reservation in advance. However, I couldn't get through on the phone when trying to make the reservation, which made me worry if the place had closed down. But it was just needless worry. We arrived a little early before the lunch opening time, and there were already a few people waiting outside. The restaurant, although decently spacious, seemed to have only one chef, so the seating was quite relaxed with ample space between tables. Although I would have indulged if I were alone, my guest was still recovering from an illness, so we decided to go easy on the food and drinks. We started with two bottles of Kirin Lager (750 yen each) and later switched to three glasses of Kami no Kawa (650 yen each). The menu included: - Assorted sushi (7 pieces) for 3,600 yen - Additional kobujime (price unknown) - Sumiika, tuna, flounder, scallop, sardine, small-boned gizzard shad, boiled squid, and tekka maki. We also added an extra kobujime. The size of the fish and rice was standard, with the fish slightly larger. The vinegared rice was just right, not overpowering. The sushi looked ordinary at first glance, but the harmony between the fish and rice was superb, creating a delightful unity in the mouth. The blending of the rice and fish, along with the perfect size, was exceptional. Every piece was delicious, with meticulous attention to detail. The boiled squid was particularly well-received by our guest from Osaka. It had a satisfying crunch and a sweet taste. This is what Edomae sushi is all about. Overall, this restaurant offers incredibly delicious sushi in a fantastic atmosphere. The chef works alone, so the pace is leisurely, but that adds to the charm. The nostalgic Asakusa ambiance and traditional Edomae craftsmanship make this place a gem in Asakusa. The bill for today came to 11,750 yen for two people. Considering the quality and quantity, this is a great deal. Thank you for the wonderful meal!
